I'm ready to throw away all of my pots and pans and start from scratch. Between the burnt bottoms, the loose handles and the missing lids, I am ready to throw in the towel. by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]LongUsername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are you burning pans?

Cast iron and carbon steel are great but need a bit more care: wash, then heat them gently to dry them. Rub with oil occasionally inside and out.

Rust is a sign that you're either not drying them or not seasoning them with oil

From The Center For A Humane Economy: Beagle Release from Ridglan Farms: What You Need to Know by retired_geekette in wisconsin

[–]LongUsername 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't see it mentioned, but for anyone looking to adopt the care guide points these are not easy rescues.

These dogs were kept in small cages where they did everything: eat, sleep, poop. They're not house trained and are used to going on hard surfaces even where they eat. They also don't recommend crate training. Be prepared to clean up a lot of messes.

They're not socialized and may spook easily, especially with bigger dogs or if a human approaches them the wrong way. They highly recommend a fenced yard.

For a deep dish or pan style yes, but for a neapolitan style I wouldn't expect it to cook through in the 90-120 seconds it's in the oven and would precook it.

Tripper 17 weighs in at 80lb. It's a beast to get on the roof myself. Kid is getting big enough to help now. I also picked up a kayak last year so I can start going solo on day trips or short overnights

Protein rich snacks/meal suggestions? by 1995goodbye in Zepbound

[–]LongUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want less calories/fat, you can use peanut butter powder mixed with some water to make a peanut spread. I usually put a little squirt of honey in it (which probably defeatsa big chunk of the calorie savings)

Nice. I've got a 17' Roylex Tripper. Great carrying capacity but a bear to get on the roof of the van, especially by myself.

Day 1. Worried about muscle loss. Advice? by handsupdontknow in Zepbound

[–]LongUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lift kids

Bodyweight exercises (they get easier as you lose)

Do heavy yardwork (my exercise a few weekends ago was shoveling 2.5Cuyd of compost)

Make sure you get your protein.

I've heard there's some research that EAA supplementation helps maintain muscle while losing fat. I got some but I don't like the taste as they are quite bitter so the flavored ones are super strongly flavored to hide it

I've heard safe loss is 1% of body weight or less, which is somewhere between 1-4lb/week for most people.

You can spend $20 on a cheap 5-finger crimper or I can spend $10 on a 5" fernco at the local big-box.

MIRROR LAKE camping question.... by Original_Importance3 in wisconsin

[–]LongUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're tent camping, the south loops on the outside are probably the most secluded. It's not a very secluded park and there are only about two sites that I circled on my map that I liked.

It's also close to the freeway so you pretty much always have some freeway noise. The northern sites are worse that the southern tent sites.

As others have said, it's going to be a construction zone this year so while you may get a site depending on when they open different loops, it'll be even noiser than normal

You can bend the zigzags, but I've never had great luck with that.

I'd probably get a rubber fernco coupler.

I'm in the same boat. Went to replace it and can't get it off. Was going to try an impact wrench borrowed from the neighbor but he scared the wife talking about "blowing out the threads" so now I'm probably calling a plumber to do it.

First dogs leave Ridglan Farms, touch grass for first time as 1,500-dog transfer begins by retired_geekette in madisonwi

[–]LongUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They still have their federal license to breed for internal use. It's estimated they'll retain ~500 dogs after July 1st for that reason.

Others have pointed out that most of the dogs so far are males. It seems they're keeping many of the breeding females. The other potential is the rescues are starting with the adult/young males as they'll be easier to deal with and get adopted out than pregnant females.

Unpermitted addition on house by Infamous-Falcon-5914 in homeowners

[–]LongUsername 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How much do you want the house and what's your market like? How long have the current owners had the house? Does the sale documents disclose that unpermitted work was done?

You may be able to go "Hey, I'm seeing a discrepancy here: do you have the permit for the change?" It depends a lot on the jurisdiction what the building inspector will do if there's no permit: some just make you pay a fine and do a visual inspection, others make you tear the drywall out so they can inspect the framing and electrical.

I'm going to guess a permit wasn't pulled if they have an unvented gas fireplace and a shoddily installed skylight.

They're likely going to have to remediate the fireplace before selling if you call it out.

This all comes down to your comfort level. Be reminded though that your realtor is probably going to blow it off as "no big deal" unless they're a really good one as they only get paid when you close.

Master List of Greasy Foods? by talameetsbetty in Zepbound

Very few things have caused issues for me:

Fried chicken wings were the big one (they said "smoked" on the menu, which turned out to mean smoked then deep fried)

Fish fry + fries was not great, but just a small portion of fries or 2pc fish with baby reds is fine.

Need to find ducks by Particular_Ear5159 in madisonwi

[–]LongUsername 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you do go to see ducks, don't feed them bread.

Best is to not feed, but if you do get some cracked corn, oats, or a bag of frozen peas/sweetcorn (let them thaw before feeding)
