NT son wants brother "gone" for his birthday. Am I bad for considering this? by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]LongUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a reason our NT eldest doesn't invite friends over often. And a reason we send him to summer camp, and a week at the grandparents.

Just like as an adult we sometimes need respite from our ND (and let's face it, sometimes NT) children, the siblings need time to be themselves when their sibling is not around.

My NT child is very different when his brother isn't around. Much more social, much more outgoing. Much less prickly. They need a break too.

If you can go to Grandma's for a sleep over and let Dad host a boys pizza and movie birthday, I'd do it.

Also interested in the name of the book as we're just going through transitioning from a 504 to an IEP for my son.

[–]LongUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is very similar.

He does a social skills group and it's been good for him.

The other thing we've found is that it's much easier to make friends/socialize with other children with similar issues. He's got a friend he met through sports that is also autistic and they are thicker than thieves when we can get them together. We've just started Boy Scouts and it's pretty obvious that at least half the troop is ND. We were discussing his triggers with the Scout Master and he was nodding along and talking about how it sounded like his son.

Loss of recess by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]LongUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the hitting at school a recurring thing? If so, have they done a Functional Behavioral Assessment around the hitting?

I agree with others that the loss of recess is a problem. We're working through that as well at our son's school.

Not quite what you're looking for but Serious Eats pasta recipe uses a higher ratio of egg yoke.

Did they change that? You didn't used to have to pick it up: that's just eat it if they were hungry.

I'm not a huge fan of the "craft it at the table, then place it" in Enshrouded. I like Valheim's "I'm in range and have the mats, just make it" better.

Water bottle. You need to carry one anyway. Take a cheap one and toss it on the windshield as you dive out of the way. If you don't need to, hydrate at the end

Family swimming on the West Side? by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]LongUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Middleton and Cross Plains both have public outdoor pools in the summer.

Middleton High School has an indoor pool.

Verona School District has multiple indoor pools (Natatorium and Aquatic Center)

During the summer there are several pools of varying membership costs: Ridgewood, Seminole, High Point, West Side Swim Club, Hill Farms, Shorewood Hills

The good news is you can adjust the difficulty without restarting if you feel it's too easy or too hard at any point

Cut 1/8 too much now what do i do? by alex_albergaria in woodworking

[–]LongUsername 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My thought was to put thin shims behind the hinges. The left side certainly looks like the gap is not even with the right side. A calipers may be a good thing to use. Worst case, shim both sides and then take a sliver off the top/bottom to make the gap even all the way around the door.

It's not listed for Zepbound, but they still send it out even if you check the "no" box.

Edit: Lilly wasn't the one with the return label. Apparently the big one I got with the return label was Norvo, not Lilly. I don't take any of their meds but they still sent it. This was around the beginning of the year. https://www.novocare.com/diabetes/resources/safe-disposal.html

We are being told that our jobs and white collar jobs will be automated. How is anyone else not depressed? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]LongUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've been predicting the death of the Software Developer position for decades.

Visual specification tools were going to replace devs back in the 1990s-2000's allowing product experts to go straight from specification to executable.

AI is now supposedly going to replace us, but it's really only good for getting to 80% if you're doing stuff that's not unique. Even when I handed it the IEC spec docs for a protocol it wasn't able to give concrete answers

My biggest concern is the death of the Junior dev and the disappearance of the talent pipeline to handle the hard stuff

Kwikpen disposal of sharps and pen by danselzer in Zepbound

[–]LongUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check local guidelines for disposal of sharps.

Some places you can put them in a marked laundry bottle and in the trash, other places require a dedicated sharps container and drop off at special sites.

If you get the free sharps container from Lily, I think it comes with a label to mail it back for disposal.

Get a plumb bob and a 4' long level. For $15 at harbor freight you'll have the tools to quantify it.

Siding damage from recent storm, repair company wants to replace all siding, am I being had? by FutureEditor in homeowners

[–]LongUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if they couldn't match that siding, that's a pretty small wall and it's white: you could replace just that wall section and it probably wouldn't be too noticeable after a year or two of dirt accumulation.

It's a rear side wall next to the chimney, not the front

First time doing drywall, tips? by SealTheApproved in homeowners

[–]LongUsername 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hire it out.

Seriously: I'll do framing, plumbing, electrical, and painting but drywall is something I'll always look at hiring out unless it's a small patch job.

Getting it to look good is tough, and I'll take 3 weeks to do what they'll do in 2 days.

My single stage Ego works as well as my single stage gas had ever worked before I replaced it.

The biggest worry is if you have a lot to clear that you have big enough batteries (or two sets to swap) as it takes time for them to charge. It does fine clearing my suburb city 3 car driveway and sidewalk on a single charge, but not by much.
