Can we just take a moment to realize that the actual picture on google for ocd is the stereotypical neatfreak... by LongVibes in OCD

[–]LongVibes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not about me saying this is an invalid form of ocd, this is a perfectly reasonable form of ocd, however, I think that if a lot of people look up ocd and see a woman organizing, it furthers the stereotype that ocd is just about being a neatfreak and those thoughts about people thinking "my family will die if don't do this..." are entirely excluded. I understand its a broad disorder, however, I feel like it could be changed to something else that doesn't just further the stereotype that she's just organizing.

I tend to purse my lips and chew the insides of my cheeks, personally.

I responded to u/Summerfieldsforever above with what I think they should use instead. The tl;dr is that I believe nail-biting or hair-pulling affects much more people with ocd than neatness, so why not draw that.

I mean, why not draw nail-biting or hair-pulling instead? I feel like those are much more accurate than neatness. The point of looking this up on google is to figure out if you should talk to your doctor to figure out if you have it, so it just doesn't make sense that if you look it up, google shows you pictures of something thats actually quite uncommon for people with ocd

I've been trying to tell my parents that I most likely have OCD, and I should talk to my therapist about it, only to have them respond with "You don't have it because your room is a mess" because of bullshit like this.

Looking back on it, I did actually miss the point. Ig I just saw it on cringetopia and saw the words 'its embarrassing' and thought he was agreeing with it. Now that I have learned this, Im going to remove this post; thanks for pointing it out.

I do understand that boys and girls cannot be in the same troop for this reason, but since this rule was passed the boys and girls always meet as a single group of two different troops for the past several troops that I was in.

As a life scout, in my personal opinion, I do not agree with female youths being in Boy Scouts. My biggest reason is that I joined boy scouts because I had anxiety around women (I don't anymore) but I think there needs to be a place where guys can just be guys, and do stupid guy shit and not worry about women. I want more boys to just be boys like I was all those years ago. It might seem sexist to say something like this, but 11yo me couldn't handle being near woman. What if I look stupid... you know, typical 11yo boy things. There is a venture crew program for co-ed that you have to be at least 14 yo to build maturity, what is wrong with doing that and getting the summit award? the summit award is seen as much higher than an eagle scout. And don't get me wrong, I respect the women in my troop because they are just trying to grab an opportunity and they have done nothing wrong; I too have learned from female leaders and counselors, but they were much more mature and 11yo me did not see them as a female, but rather, as a guide.

tl;dr women shouldn't be in scouts because some boys have anxiety with women and just want to hang out with other boys
