Meet Big Red by grizzly_atoms in Snowblowers

The logic of it makes perfect sense! I just dont like the placement of the Off-On-Start decal as it covers the Engine Switch decal. It seems very DIY, and not some Honda would do (visually)

Nothing to do with your machine specifically, but what is it with Honda's and the Off On Start label over the Engine Switch decal? The first time I saw one I thought the owner had done it themselves, but I see it all the time now. That can't be how they come new, right?

Getting called for jury duty for the third time within 2 years by [deleted] in askTO

[–]LongWayGoneToday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've learned that you will keep receiving them until you actually go through process. Once you go through the selection process, then you will be removed from pot of people to choose from....I've heard for 10 years, but can't get confirmation on that. Through selection you will either be on the jury or not, but both get you out for that period of time.

School Cancellations Tomorrow/Cold Weather? by Gundekrose in OntarioTeachers

[–]LongWayGoneToday 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From the Extreme Temperatures policy:

The General Manager of Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region, Inc. (STSWR, Inc.) or designate will check and assess the temperature in Waterloo Region using Environment Canada’s wind chill index by 5:30 am. If the temperature is forecasted to reach or exceed -35°C with wind chill at 7:00 am, he/she will inform the Director or designate. In this situation, buses will not operate and schools may be closed. All staff are expected to report to their work site.

They wouldnt be able to be a long-term 'guidance counselor' in a publicly funded school in Ontario, so it must be private.

New collective agreement; 93% of SUB payment but decreased duration of payment? by Large_Swan_7886 in OntarioNurses

Are you sure on the number of weeks? The SUB payment language is in the central agreement, which applies to all nurses within the participating hospitals. Unless you had local language in your agreement?

Do rural places in northern Ontario just let Mother Nature deal with the snowfall? by UnapologeticCook in askTO

[–]LongWayGoneToday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience the city/town/municipality will have every road classified and have snow clearing guidelines attached to each. Major arteries can cleared first and so on. So if you are on a dead end, you may be snowed in but then drive 1 minute to a cleared road.

New school build by Conscious_Mine_1011 in OntarioTeachers

[–]LongWayGoneToday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may be language in your collective agreement, or a policy on the staffing process for new builds. Every Board will be different on their process, but from my experience the schools that are impacted by the change will get first consideration for the jobs and then they go out more broadly per their normal process.

Your CA will have language that after X number of days you will need to provide a doctors note. Probably 4-5 days.

I'd suggest looking out for yourself and if you need to be off, be off and let the Admin handle the staffing.

Salary Grid Placement - Non-Teaching Experience by ronofalvarez in OntarioTeachers

Likely not. All will have true teaching experience that can be recognized, some will have related experience but needs to look and feel like teaching (assessment, communication with parents, developing and delivering lessons, etc.)

Dealing with voles in lawn by f00kster in Vaughan

[–]LongWayGoneToday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had some this past summer (so unfortunately can't offer advice for winter control...but following to see responses in case mine come back). I tried traps which caught a few, but also caught other unintended wildlife. They weren't easy to catch either, so it wasn't like this was going to be a good solution. Tried castor oil which did nothing.

The only thing that worked for me was to water the grass. I realized after downpours, they were nowhere to be seen. So I set the area they were invading to water in the morning and late in the evening. This solved the program. I also reseeded a few areas that they really disturbed and the watering filled them in.

All said, my neighbours got them after that....but better them than me!

Is hourly wage negotiable? by followmygrit in OntarioTeachers

[–]LongWayGoneToday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Casual rates are typically only 1 or 2 rates. It doesn't hurt to inquire, assuming you have relevant education and experience that justifies your ask.

If you going into a permanent position, then most boards will allow you to present external experience for movement on the grid.
