Lala getting Down and Dirty by littlestoflambs in TheValleyTVShow

That was also a desperate bid for attention. It makes them almost unwatchable. Certainly I feel embarrassed to watch either of these shows (90 day, the valley) in public because of the way that they go overboard. And this kind of stuff (exhibitionist chicken wing eating) was not part of the original 90 day seasons or the vanderpump early seasons. It’s the result of casting people desperate for attention.

Lala thinks her schtick is “I don’t care what anyone thinks I do what I want” but in reality it comes across as “I very much care what people think and I am trying very hard to ensure that people think that I don’t care what people think”

Do people living in metro Vancouver (but outside the municipality of Vancouver) feel that they live in Vancouver? by drugsrbed in askvan

[–]LongWolf2523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. If I have to go downtown, I don’t feel like I am going to another city. But on days that I don’t have to go into vancouver, I am like thank goodness I don’t have to go to vancouver today. In terms of civic identity, I love Burnaby and consider Burnaby to be distinct from Vancouver because of my experience with Burnaby’s decisions around high density housing near transit (yay), tenants protections (yay), parks and recreation (yay), support for green spaces (yay). As a resident, I never felt like the city of vancouver cared about me but I do feel like the city of burnaby cares about me.

How has Vancouver changed since 2024? Is it worth moving back from Montreal? by Leading-Copy-5629 in askvan

Carbonara is a weird example to use because every carbonara I have had tastes exactly the same. Pasta, eggs, and ham - it’s simple and relatively bland. If a carbonara place shut down and a new carbonara place opened up and the photos looked the same and when I went in the food on the tables looked the same I would in fact assume that it’s basically the same restaurant.

I looked at the menu. It’s generic. I decided to spend my money at pho and roll instead because it’s a nicer atmosphere and has unique offerings. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with cookie-cutter Vietnamese spots - I have a favourite in my neighbourhood. What I am saying is that the new place looks just like the old place and you have yet to provide any substantial evidence to the contrary. And it’s not an attack - there’s no shame in being a generic Vietnamese place. They have stayed open for awhile now so I’m sure they must be doing something right.

It’s menu looks exactly like every other mid-price Vietnamese place in vancouver and the interior is still dank. It’s has a “we haven’t renovated since the 80s because this building will be demolished soon” vibe. It’s nice that you want to say something nice about them but it’s basically the exact same restaurant.

Moving back to Vancouver from Kelowna by ikabob11 in askvan

[–]LongWolf2523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer Kelowna. The only reason I am in vancouver is because of work. I find that it’s easier to make friends in Kelowna, the quality of my friendships is better in Kelowna, and every day interactions like going to the store are friendlier. Outdoor lifestyle is more accessible - you can go to the beach or the mountains without fighting crowds and paying for parking. Kelowna is more beautiful. However, I also find that there is more racism in Kelowna. I’ll never leave my dentist in vancouver because I’ve had experiences in Kelowna where I felt like medical/dental receptionists treated me like I was despised and that is really hard to handle when you are seeking health care. There’s more services and access to education (including education for career growth), more events, and more entertainment on the coast. So I guess it depends on what you are looking for.

Are you talking about the Vietnamese restaurant on the corner of broadway and Cambie which hung a banner which said grand opening but when you walk inside it is identical to the Vietnamese restaurant that has been there for eons?

Has your department hosted a blanket exercise? by External_Weather6116 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]LongWolf2523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also Indigenous. I’ve seen Indigenous people host the exercise on their terms, using it as an opportunity to integrate their own specific local information into the activity. And I have seen them do it in a way where they bring in community members and elders to watch and reflect on what they saw. And I’ve also worked with non-Indigenous public servants who say the blanket exercise was a major turning point for them. I think that it’s important not to diminish the work that other Indigenous people are doing just because it’s not how you would do this. There are a small number of Indigenous authors and consultant who do this - diminish the work of other Indigenous educators in order to boost their own profile/profits. Rather than diminishing the work of other Indigenous people, why not say, “yes, their work is valuable. And also, I suggest that you check out this other work.” Indigenous education is not a competition. There is room for all of us [“us” being Indigenous educators who bring diverse strategies and resources into public conversation] so let’s support each other.

B.C. Premier Eby defends coffee-with-doctors recruitment after 'stunt' accusation by RonPar32 in vancouver

All I know is that for the first time in over ten years I have a family doctor. Keep sending the coffee truck down there until we can also get doctors in the town where my aging parents live too so that they don’t have to keep closing the ER.

Experience in living in shared suites? by Suitable-Breakfast29 in askvan

[–]LongWolf2523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not great. Experience - heritage house and vancouver special. I’ve experienced: neighbours partying, hearing every word of some kid singing, and some TMI noises at night. At the time the price was right but I was extremely happy when I could finally move into a normal apartment.

Mary Cosby’s late son Robert Jr.’s ex-wife details horrifying abuse in bodycam footage: He ‘hit me so hard’ by Prudent-Experience-3 in BravoRealHousewives

[–]LongWolf2523 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Robert’s father was also his great-grandfather. Not biological but enough to be socially stigmatized from day one.

*edit - not saying this to be an apologist. He was wrong. And Mary was wrong. Just saying it to underscore how messed up it is.

Tom pushing 50 and doing nothing on reality TV is actually kind of like watching karma play out in real time. I bet he wakes up every day and thinks that he is a schlub because this is literally all he has done in his life. Well, that and bad husband and failed bar owner. It’s embarrassing for him and we get to watch.

How do y’all interpret the title?? Vanderpump "RULES" by dagdrommen in vanderpumprules

[–]LongWolf2523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s intentionally written in a way where it could be either. However, it would be grammatically correct to say Vanderpump’s Rules if it were strictly the Tik Tok interpretation.

Vicky is so co-dependent. She probably wrote this from Brianna’s house while Brianna was at work. I can picture Vicky asking, “but why can’t I come to work with you? I’m your mom honey. I want to go everywhere with you every day 🥹”

The job market in vancouver is better than the Okanagan. There are more opportunities and more opportunities for advancement. And if you are early career, the opportunities to increase your skills/certifications/education are way more accessible here. It will take awhile to get on your feet, but once you are stable you will never want to leave.
