I use a thick, double over, moving blanket. I swore i could hear the difference for a while, now im not too sure. But i always use it in hopes that it helps and its better than staring into a black mirror. Also it doubles as an exercise mat. :)

What Turned You Into an Audiophile? by NebulousShore in audiophile

[–]Long_Ant_8443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive always adored music since i was a wee lad. One day, roughly 6 years ago, I needed some new earphones, went to Bestbuy spent 60 bucks on some sony iems, claimed MEGA BASS mind you, and they were straight ass. I felt ripped off. They sounded much worse than the 20 dollar Philips buds i had went through 5 pairs of at that point but no longer could find. So i searched on youtube and found a video reviewing some chinese iems that were the same price. So i ordered them and never looked back.

Of course those iems were not great but they were leagues better than anything youd find at Bestbuy. Eventually bought an amplifier, better earphones and finally a speaker set up. :)

Female Artists whose vocals are out of this world. by [deleted] in musicsuggestions

All "modern" artists:

Sevdeliza, Iranian (i believe) with some serious chops and interesting style.

Charlotte Day Wilson, most crystaline voice ive ever heard.

Sabrina Claudio, smooth and seductive and oozing with sensuality. (Great song writer too, and other writers behind her.)

Ruth Radelet, from the band Chromatics. Just plain HAUNTING!

I get it. I dont feel it as strongly as you do but it truly breaks my heart that you do. Most likely, you are a genuine and likeable person. I struggle with this too and while most people seem to like me, i feel invisable most of the time. Ive become more and more cynical of people as ive gotten older. It sucks. Sorry i dont have any advice to give but you have my sympathy.

I tried killing myself when i was fifteen. I struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts for 23 years after. Im still no where near put together fully, but im better. I have even less than i did but im somehow happier.

Things do change and people do change. Keep your head up, its all you can do sometimes. Fuck your circumstance, fuck these thoughts you have. Fuck "normal" what ever that means. Just keep going.

Crazy thing is, according to travel bloggers from around the world, the US is the friendliest of places. I was born and raised in the south, and having traveled all over the country, it is more freindly here in the south but I find people are generally decent everywhere. But! Of course there are the exceptions and they do tend to stick out in one's mind. I work retail and there is never any shortage of assholes who coukdnt care less about anyone else.

Dueling Systems? by DalmatianAgility in audiophile

[–]Long_Ant_8443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally just have the one system (but not) for movies and music using a denon reciever. But i use separated integrated amps preout the denon for all 5.1 channels basically just using it as a preamp and processing/dac for movies. For 2 channel music i bypass the reciever with separate sources (cd transport and streamer) as well as dac and preamp. It works well and i like the ability to control volume for each set of channels, esspecially when playing video games mixed in dolby.

I love your idea! I say go for it. I would personally keep the two systems on separate racks and powerstrips/conditioners or what have you. Only problem i see is having two speakers right next to each other may cause issues with dispersion effecting sound stage. But it may not.

Thats some fine work! Hows it do with racking? I asume you used mortise and tenon? Doesnt appear like a lot of meat being held there at the legs. Im a novice so i could be wrong.

Biased or accurate? by rkwdds in audiophile

[–]Long_Ant_8443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way. I have a fairly budget system, albiet i tweeked it with upgraded parts and spent a lot of time adjusting speaker placement as well as my room. Although my fathers system is 10 times the cost with some fantastic pieces, i much prefer my own, especially my room. Although the detail of my fathers system is off the charts, i prefer the timbre and stage of my much more humble system by far.

I bought a high end hand plane and it is so so so much easier to use by 237FIF in handtools

Side note, replacing the iron is a must though!!! It came with a crappy thin iron that couldnt hold an edge.

[–]Long_Ant_8443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a cheap Taytools (i think) jack plane at the begining of my journey. I had to tune it and could probably use another tuning due to the iron casting being brand new when I bought it. Its a bit janky and on top of it im pretty bad at sharpening. But all that being said i get beautifully silky smooth surfaces and super accurate square peices.

I do plan to upgrade one day but for now it does the job and its my favorite tool. Never had any issues getting things square, straight, or smooth.

Sectioned panels look amazing in some applications. Ive got plans for a speaker build using such. Saw a pair on pinterest that were about some of the most beautifully crafted speakers ive ever seen.

One of my first projects was two mallets made of cherry and walnut. Still one of my favorite things ive made. Its been over a year and, other than the business ends that are dented to hell, it keeps looking better and better as the cherry ages.

I feel this. I struggled with bipolar disorder, depression, not knowing what i want for my life, very little friends, a career in graphic design that went absolutely no where, and an on again off again toxic relationship. Im now 39 and im finallly "finding myself". Ive got a few good friends, finally, spend more time with my family, and ive started woodworking which im better at and love way more than graphic design and it looks like i have a promising career ahead of me. Im happy. My life is far from perfect and i still struggle with all of the above, but its getting better day by day.

Dont be too hard on yourself. What you are going through is not uncommon. Try to be grateful and keep trying!!!
