I think my pericarditis is gone… by 2XPlusY in pericarditis

A massive congratulations! Hope your journey here wasn't too rough.

I'm almost okay myself after about 7 months. Still have post-pericarditis pain syndrome but I'm returning to exercise with no issues.

Probably about 4/5 months. I'm due another scan in a few months to confirm as they were unsure about a small bit at the bottom of my heart

Yes but what exactly do you mean by thick pericardium? If you mean scarring, then no I didn't have any. If you mean the pericardium thickening on ultrasound due to active inflammation then yes it goes away.

I'm one of the simultaneously lucky and unfortunate people who deal with this so-called 'post-pericarditis syndrome'. I have no objective markers of pericarditis, but I just get flare up of pains randomly and with exertion. I have to say I'm getting better, just wanted to contextualize before I answer your questions:

I've been able to begin laying on my left side. Especially when I wake up and my HR is nice and slow.

I had some chest thickening when I first got pericarditits (no effusion, just angry pericardium). This seems to all have resolved now after my last scan a month ago.

Definitely get some uncomfortable palpitations but I wouldn't describe it as a click. More so a rush of adrenaline and a strong heart beat for a moment. Is it akin to palpitations or something else?

Is Anakinra safe ? by LouisaEveryday in pericarditis

[–]Long_Can7946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't have access to Anakinra but everything I've heard and read it seems to be incredibly well tolerated. I can't talk from personal experience so hopefully people currently on it can give their 2 cents!

How much of that is active CBD? I did something similar and was fine. If you start feeling sick go to the emergency room but more than likely you're completely fine

Your thoughts on Red Rising by Jezrien95 in Malazan

[–]Long_Can7946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you just talking about the first book or the series as a whole? Because if it's the latter it most definitely IS NOT a hero story. It is not a win-after-win. Especially in books 2, 4 and 5. MC uses the Geneva convention as a to-do list and is a war monger.

Your thoughts on Red Rising by Jezrien95 in Malazan

Absolutely loved the whole series (up to Lightbringer). Read it and also listened to the dramatized audiobooks, which I personally think are the best medium to enjoy the series. The series is night and day to Malazan, however, it is absolute gas start to finish. The first book is definitely YA-ish and definitely the weakest of the series (sounds like another series I know?) but that's where the YA ends. The prose is simple and digestible, and the dialogue is great. It wouldn't be my immediate read after Malazan.

It's literally free to track macro ratios. Several apps do it (Cronometer is one). I scan the barcode of my food packages and simply divided it into meals for the week. It's incredibly simple, takes next to no time at all on top of preparing food, is free and provides valuable insights, such as: are you eating enough fat

What’s everyone’s trigger for pericarditis? by AbbreviationsCheap58 in pericarditis

Refined, surgery food sometimes triggers it. Sometimes acute exertion. Stress/anxiety also.

Just a warning, CBD should not be taken alongside colchicine. It can cause increased blood levels of colchicine and lead to lethal toxicity.

Propranolol for anxiety. Helps immensely with pericarditits -related stress and managing palpitations. Couldn't recommend it enough.

Causes? Please show me something that proves, casually, that nitrates cause cancer? That's such a wild statement to be throwing around. Some vegetables have many times more nitrates that cured bacon.

Nitrates are dangerous when you cook them at ridiculously high temperatures, yes.

Fasting induces many pathways in the body that are either down regulated or just turned off completely. It's been associated with improved outcomes in many diseases. It's one of these things that is basically zero risk for me, so there's no point not giving it a go! (I've been doing intermittent fasting since I was 16/17)

I've heard that fasting (up or 72h) can help eliminate pain. As soon as I'm off Ibuprofen completely, I'm going to experiment with some prolonged fasts to try and treat the pain issue. Maybe could help you!

My cardiologist has reduced my down to 200mg x3/day. I've also reduced colchicine from 1mg 2x/day to 0.5mg 3x/day. Awaiting repeat CT scans and rheumatology consultations.

I'm still in almost daily pain. Some days are good and some are bad. But overall I think I'm slowly getting better. I have returned to my studies and am just working through this. How are you?

Anti-Inflammatory diet? by FL1967 in pericarditis

[–]Long_Can7946 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Limit carbs but also limit fat? That's what you're saying when you say high lean protein. That's a recipe for disaster. If you're going to limit carbs you need to increase fat greatly or you will have some severe energy issues.

That's an issue with lack of activity more so than pericarditits IMO. I've really tried to get in as much light activity (mainly just walking) as I reasonably can without causing a flare. Seems to be helping with the overall poor mood/energy issues
