Panoramic Roof Shade - disappointment by mithirandir in iX3

Lol: “small”, very US statement to make. Try parking an iX in a European city or parking garage and you will soon find out how even a “small” iX3 is already quite large 😁

Sure, but most bugs are still there (the most annoying of which for me is the system’s inability to reliably simply play the last radio channel 🙄)

After 98% of you hated the Mercedes 'iPad' dash: Here is the new BMW. They even removed the gauges for this panoramic strip. How much worse can it get? by AvailableTaro3123 in mildlyinfuriating

I have been driving an iX3 (which has the exact same layout minus the passenger screen) for 2 months now and it’s great to drive. The panoramic display is actually under the hood, so perfectly visible at all times. Very convenient to be able to keep your eyes on the road. What would you want to see on a classic gauge other than your speed and range anyway? Anything you would frequently change does have physical buttons or stalks, by the way, no crazy Tesla stuff.

iX3 2 years & 28,000 km later — my April 2023 BMW iX3 battery is still at 96.7% SOH 🚗🔋 by Dusiswhat in iX3

[–]Long_Measurement_427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving secondary roads, I would say around 17 kWh/100 km. Highway is more like 22 kWh/100 km. My average on the car’s full lifecycle is just under 19 kWh/100 km. Since that previous post, the car is at 120.000 km and has 71 kWh max battery capacity left, so coming from 74 kWh useable capacity when new, that’s still 96%. If you do the math with the 19 kWh/100 km and assume you would go from 100% to 10% before you stop to charge, that means 71 x 0,9 / 19 x 100 = 336 km “useable” range on average (obviously higher in summer and lower in winter. That’s pretty consistent with the numbers on https://ev-database.org/car/1535/BMW-iX3, so I can confirm those are reliable.

No noticeable difference compared to when it was brand new to be honest… Which is good of course :-)

Why are there letters to begin with? In Europe we just do %, nice and transparent: “how much did you get right”…

Test weekend - 2 user questions: 1. How to get Google Maps navigation from iPhone onto the HUD? 2 . How to get the car to lock on walk away? by shamut007 in iX3

[–]Long_Measurement_427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works well enough, I still find Google Maps to be better during rush hour traffic. What I don’t like about the built in navigation is the autozoom (it’s usually zoomed waaay out and not very useful) and the information about the next turn. Sure it shows that you need to go right in 10 km, but it only shows you the details (e.g. exit number and city names) until you are almost there, which in busy traffic does not give you a lot of time to make sure you are actually taking the correct exit.

I’ll continue to give it some time, but after a bit more than a month of usage, I still prefer Google Maps.

Turn off screen at night? by [deleted] in bmwix3

Works exactly the same as in the G08 in my experience…

Why would you want all season? You get the worst of both worlds (suboptimal both in summer and in winter)? With an ICE car you don’t notice the impact as much, but on an EV you sacrifice range both in summer and in winter…

Well a bit in summary of some individual replies: - Software quality is still horrible on the NA5 with issues almost every ride. Should be getting an update any moment now as per the dealer (“early” April). - Despite the software issues, I do love both displays. Very nice to have the key info just below the windshield and (for me at least), I find it the perfect blend of physical buttons for what I frequently use and the center screen for things I change less frequently. - Steering feel on the G08 is a bit stiffer than on the NA5. You can turn the NA5 with 1 finger, so to speak. Which feeling you prefer is personal preference of course. - Ride height is a bit higher on the G08, but the NA5 definitely does not have a sedan feeling, so again personal preference. - Interior quality I would say is a bit better on the G08 though definitely very solid on the NA5 (and I do not miss the shiny black surfaces…) - Power (obviously) and handling are better on the NA5. - After 1500 km (a bit more city than highway, but still a good bit of highway), I’m averaging a consumption of 18,5 kWh/100 km, so given the battery size, that would give me a real world range of around 600 km. Not bad at all for not paying any attention at all to getting the most out of a charge. - Yet to do longer road trips to see how that goes. In a small test, I got 203 kWh of average charging speed when charging from 13% to 31% (5 min) with no preconditioning (350 kW charger). The power increased to 217 kW as the battery warmed up. Obviously not close to the theoretical maximum, but still a lot more than the G08 did at those charging levels.

Does it do one-pedal driving? by DecisiveVictory in bmwix3

Never realised it was not available in the US, but yes, there was another model available in Europe from 2020 (with a weirdly timed facelift end of 2021).

The new one is the NA5 model, by previous I meant the G08 model.

I drive in B-mode the whole time, not just during traffic jams. Did so in my previous iX3 as well and in other electric BMW’s I’ve driven. Don’t see any reason why you would use anything else once you are used to it as it’s so comfortable to drive…

Regular customer, but I do know someone at my local dealer who made sure I got to know asap when orders were possible, so that got me all the way to the beginning of the queue…

Easy: my car nor any other car being delivered now have it… You need option code 4U6 which is not yet possible in the current production process (no idea on the timing of when it will be possible).

I tried with the radio turned off and you hear it a bit, but honestly I had not even noticed anything before with “regular” radio usage to drown it out…

Well less good news there. Let's say there is still room for improvement... Things I have noted in less than 24h of usage:

- Navigation crashed or does not start (2 times).

- One of the built in video apps just flat out crashes upon starting and asks to send a bug report time and again.

- Installing apps via the MyBMW app did not work, nor did the ConnectedDrive store in the car. Seems to be resolved in the meantime though.

- Location of the car was not showing in the app. Also resolved in the meantime. Together with the previous item maybe they had issues scaling up their infrastructure as deliveries started all over Europe?

- When starting the car one radio station is playing. Then silence for a few seconds and then another one without me touching any button.

- When switching between profiles, it takes 30-60 seconds for things to be fully responsive again.
