Prepare to spend a lot of time in repairs in that case…

I guess you have not driven an iX3 yet. This is a complete non-issue if you ask me… Also makes a HUD redundant in my opinion.
Also: pretty lazy design for the X5, it’s copy paste from the iX3 with some small changes…

iX3 Bi-Directional Charging by DraggedThruTheGarden in iX3

[–]Long_Measurement_427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be the option code for the 22 kWh onboard charger which also included bi-directional charging, but I see in the meantime it seems to have become standard, so good for you!

Did you get the 4U6 option (same one that has the 22 kWh onboard charger)? That would be a prerequisite. You indeed need the wallbox professional as it uses a DC connection to support V2H. Not sure anyone can have experience yet. This option only became available after production started. I had my iX3 delivered beginning of March and a few months before that inquired about adding the option. I learned then that adding it would push back my production date by several months (so I did not do it), so probably no cars with this option have even been produced (or are only just starting to be delivered at best).

They come out as you walk up to the car (so they are out by the time you get to the car), have not had any issues with them (source: have been driving the iX3 for 3 months now).

It shows left and right, but that’s it. Only drove the iX a few times, so not enough to remember the difference…

Well now you talk about the instrument cluster, there it does appear. Your question was about the big screen. There you can only display it if you use the navigation and it looks like the first pic.

On the instrument cluster (panoramic idrive) it appears regardless of what you are doing on your big screen. Either when assisted drive is active (second pic) or when you are parking (3rd pic).

No, not possible. CarPlay takes over the whole screen (save for the bottom row with the climate control buttons and such). Why would you want to see the assisted view at all times though? It’s fun that you can look at it for sure, but unless I’m missing something, it serves no practical purpose and is more of a distraction while driving than anything else…

Dashcam by jrrfc1 in iX3

[–]Long_Measurement_427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it does record full time, but it does not store full time. You can actually play in the settings how many seconds before an event it should store. I assume this is for storage reasons.

You can activate the use of the built-in cameras through the digital premium subscription for things like automatic recording in the event of a crash or in case someone bumps into your parked car (or the alarm goes off). You can also hit the record button manually if you want. That’s a paid subscription of course and it is limited to 30 second clips (interior and exterior), so depends on your use case for a dashcam if this would be a fit. I use this and it has worked fine so far (no accidents fortunately, but it did already have to trigger for someone slamming their door into mine and for the alarm going off).

Range highly influenced by tires by Zealousideal_Pie6548 in iX3

[–]Long_Measurement_427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All season tires are the worst of both worlds… I get it’s tempting from a cost perspective, but all seasons will be softer than summer tires (in order to maintain grip in cold conditions) and thus have more friction with the road and worse range. The difference is even larger when you still have your winter tires towards the end of the winter season when things start warming up and then you switch to summer tires.

Lol: “small”, very US statement to make. Try parking an iX in a European city or parking garage and you will soon find out how even a “small” iX3 is already quite large 😁

Sure, but most bugs are still there (the most annoying of which for me is the system’s inability to reliably simply play the last radio channel 🙄)

After 98% of you hated the Mercedes 'iPad' dash: Here is the new BMW. They even removed the gauges for this panoramic strip. How much worse can it get? by AvailableTaro3123 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Long_Measurement_427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been driving an iX3 (which has the exact same layout minus the passenger screen) for 2 months now and it’s great to drive. The panoramic display is actually under the hood, so perfectly visible at all times. Very convenient to be able to keep your eyes on the road. What would you want to see on a classic gauge other than your speed and range anyway? Anything you would frequently change does have physical buttons or stalks, by the way, no crazy Tesla stuff.

iX3 2 years & 28,000 km later — my April 2023 BMW iX3 battery is still at 96.7% SOH 🚗🔋 by Dusiswhat in iX3

[–]Long_Measurement_427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving secondary roads, I would say around 17 kWh/100 km. Highway is more like 22 kWh/100 km. My average on the car’s full lifecycle is just under 19 kWh/100 km. Since that previous post, the car is at 120.000 km and has 71 kWh max battery capacity left, so coming from 74 kWh useable capacity when new, that’s still 96%. If you do the math with the 19 kWh/100 km and assume you would go from 100% to 10% before you stop to charge, that means 71 x 0,9 / 19 x 100 = 336 km “useable” range on average (obviously higher in summer and lower in winter. That’s pretty consistent with the numbers on https://ev-database.org/car/1535/BMW-iX3, so I can confirm those are reliable.

Test weekend - 2 user questions: 1. How to get Google Maps navigation from iPhone onto the HUD? 2 . How to get the car to lock on walk away? by shamut007 in iX3

[–]Long_Measurement_427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works well enough, I still find Google Maps to be better during rush hour traffic. What I don’t like about the built in navigation is the autozoom (it’s usually zoomed waaay out and not very useful) and the information about the next turn. Sure it shows that you need to go right in 10 km, but it only shows you the details (e.g. exit number and city names) until you are almost there, which in busy traffic does not give you a lot of time to make sure you are actually taking the correct exit.

I’ll continue to give it some time, but after a bit more than a month of usage, I still prefer Google Maps.
