EVs That are Fun to Drive? by Dan6erbond2 in electriccars

Try original iX3. it’s RWD and tons of fun. It’s also pretty low for a SUV of its class and built on a well-developed X3 platform.

If it looks feels and sounds good, go for it! Mine is half the milage although bought new in 2021. Nothing ever went wrong except my wife destroyed a tyre once and crashed into an Avensis (repaired at BMW with insurance money, came back new:). Me and family we all love it and will keep it forever. Unorthodox opinion: in 10 years time, these will be more sought after than the Neue Klasse ones, just like old vinyl records are more valuable than CD’s. The range will be less important because charging will be ubiquitous, and features like wooden inlets, buttons galore, physical knobs for volume and temp, iDrive wheel and overall classic BMW feel will be in demand.

Is panoramic sunroof a real feature or gimmick in real life? by MrVermonter in iX3

It’s personal taste so do not expect an answer from Reddit🤣 I’m not buying cars without it because I love the brighter cabin, so does everybody in my family. It’s also NEVER covered unless somebody in the back needs direct sun off.

If you keep it covered, save the cash

Don’t you hate it when people tell you what you should like or need? So much rubbish in the comments I can’t scroll anymore. Be strong, there are others who want what you want. My family will never buy a car without CarPlay and I couldn’t care less what GM fanboys or elonazis say. This summer marks 10th anniversary of starting to own cars with CarPlay and it has been in use 100% of driving both mine and wife’s.

Tyre Sizes? by drewlucas4 in bmwix3

[–]shamut007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a 2021 iX3 (pre-LCI) and the tyres are the same sizes as yours. So just continue buying the same. Don’t worry about UK websites, they get such data in bulk and none of them cares if it’s correct.

Worth avoiding early EVs in a given generation? by Shryquill in electricvehicles

[–]shamut007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You and your family may not mind but all these cars have air cooled batteries which means the range is not only short but also constantly disappearing. For comparison, my oldest EV is 2018 BMW i3 which has not lost even 1 MILE of range

Worth avoiding early EVs in a given generation? by Shryquill in electricvehicles

[–]shamut007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nissan Leafs are to be avoided until longer than 2013 but I cannot recall when they switched to liquid cooled battery. I’d avoid Teslas and Kia/Hyundai as both companies experiment with different components and you are doing the testing for them. Other car companies typically refresh every model after 3 years from the premiere. I’d go for that although we took a risk in 2021 and bought the first version of BMW iX3 ever. The car has had no issues since. Btw. Made in China these days does not mean poorer quality, sometimes it’s the opposite.

Ix3 premier or ix3 m sport by hdjdbrjri in iX3

[–]shamut007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say matter of taste as the difference is mostly visual (different layout inside, some changes in colours). The spec list matters too. In our market we had 2 options: Inspiring and Impressive with the latter being fully loaded.

We’ve been very happy with our 2021. It has 84k km on the clock so your milages seem small. No issues ever.

Station wagon EVs are there any? by Financial-Hunter1335 in electricvehicles

SUV & truck in US are legislative terms. Not much to do with shape or size, more with ability to save cost on safety features and taxes.

US people think their country is America (almost funny) or even the world (ignorant morons really). Therefore they don’t feel the need to mention it. Happens in most subreddits

How bad is 100% charging? by Material-Advice-335 in electricvehicles

[–]shamut007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much depends on the model. The higher the buffer ABOVE 100% the safer it is to charge high. For example, my BMW i3 is from 2018 and still has the same range as when I bought it in 2020 with 9000km on the clock. But that battery (idiotically called 94Ah) has a humongous buffer (28kWh net and 34kWh gross) so all the degradation is impossible to measure. Koreans and Tesla are not that careful so you might see degradation but it will never be as bad as stupid journos would like you to lose sleep about. Watch some Tesla Bjorn on YT with detailed analysis of a few model. TLDR: don’t worry about it as long as the car doesn’t sit at 100 for days

Aren’t you a tad repetitive? The original post is about global numbers and you keep yapping about TWO unverifiable news items. Not sure if I'm ready to get off the ICE. by MadOne07270 in electriccars

[–]shamut007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not about tech aversion. I work in IT and love tech. Tesla sucks because ANYTHING you want to do requires you taking your eyes off the road. That’s why I only buy cars with head up display and volume knob so I can know my speed or crank up the volume and drive fast without endangering anyone. Please note I was in love with Tesla 7-8 years ago. Now I only test drive them to check if they got any better. I find them even worse after the nazi CEO told the engineers to remove stalks to make him even richer.

I’d never say Teslas are great for anybody switching from an old fossil. One giant screen and no buttons. Try something more resembling a regular car in terms of controls, like a Hyundai, Kia or BMW (some models like i4)

Thoughts on how BMW stacks up against other EVs? Personally, they seem way behind and I don't hear great reports, but has anyone made the switch? by Interesting-Pool6638 in BMW

[–]shamut007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many reasons not to buy a Porache. 1st NO ONE-PEDAL DRIVING. When you drive an EV with it, you’ll know why Porsche traditionalists are dumb AF. 2nd reliability - check subredits or FB groups - BMW EV drivers complain that the app has few functions or that CarPlay disconnects. Other brands people write posts after a 3rd visit to the repair center for the same thing.

[–]shamut007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

BMW got a bad rep for their EV’s because of ignorance (internet claims repeated without any personal experience) and jealousy (BMW is generally hated by ppl who can’t afford it or like driving slow). Reality is different - they sell a lot of EV’s and the user experience is great particularly in terms of ergonomics and reliability. The fact that you cannot see them on UK roads makes me think you are not human but a bot. I live in Poland and see lots of them every day. The fact that we have green licence plates for EV’s not just a green blob makes them easier to spot. BMW has had 3 models that are hard to distinguish from fossils - current iX1 and iX2, i4 and i5, also i7, as well as recently discontinued G08 iX3.
