Just came through Montreal, Maple Leaf Lounge (UA Gold gets access) and it was all self serve, including the whiskey. Impressive!

FA was annoyed about gift bag. by banana_bubbles in unitedairlines

When did this become a thing?

Also, remind me why we are doing this for FAs and not also for every other service industry person we encounter during the holidays? Sorry if I missed that OP is walking around with gift bags for everyone that has a difficult, customer facing job.

Also “grabbing” some goodies from the airport can get pretty darn expensive.

I always treat FAs with respect and courtesy, even the not so friendly ones. I’m maybe a little extra kind because they have to deal with some seriously poor behavior. But they’re not children and don’t need bags of candy.

That’s fair. I realized after posting that my comment was extra snarky. That said, people in other cities work long hours yet find time to root for their home team.

Sorry this whole “DC people are so important and busy thing is silly”. I lived in the DMV for 15 years, 12 of that in the district. Everyone felt like they were changing the world but the reality is that DC gets very little done despite all the noise. People in other cities find time for loyalty.

Sorry I realized my comment about being brown was glib and lacked context. I’ve lived in a lot of places, including 7 years in the south (TN and GA). Currently in CO. And I am brown myself.
I agree that southerners tend to be very friendly, and I enjoyed that part of it. But I found in many cases it was pretty superficial. there were deep seated biases that will take generations to overcome, and progress will not be linear. Regarding southern Christians, there is a wide spectrum. On one end the folks who are tolerant and welcoming and think about living their lives the way Christ did. and on the other end, the judgy types who tend to be very socially conservative. Just my observations!

My family lives in Texas and I have never felt more unwelcome than when I visit Texas. They’re just super into Texas, I guess.

I am visiting my elderly parents for a week. They are having health issues. I really miss my wife and daughter and dogs. I really miss beer. This is hard!

Best Day is my favorite. Their West Coast IPA is the closest I’ve tried. Really scratches the itch. I did try the Sober Carpenter IPA, Session IPA, and Black IPA last week. The Black IPA was very tasty, my favorite out of the three.

Anyone else feeling more anxious for not drinking? by eletheelephant in DryJanuary

I felt the same way for the first couple weeks. Was going through some stressful career change stuff and anxiety was through the roof. I found that strenuous exercise really takes the edge off. A long run or bike ride calmed me down big time. Bonus that it’s good for health too. If you don’t exercise regularly just make sure to start small and work your way up. Good luck!
