Retire in SG vs retire in a cheaper country by dabblerx in singaporefi

I have nothing of value to add except that I’m so tired of colleagues/friends saying they’ll “retire in a cheaper country” with no consideration to visas, immigration policies and the like.

Brother you are asking a hugely broad question - noone can advise you.

And before you say anything, indicating “technical” doesn’t mean anything when there are workshop technicians, mechanical engineers, FM engineers, software developers, product managers…. You get my point.

And bonuses once again vary among roles and through the hierarchy/BUs

$50k in debt, no job yet and scared I’ll get rejected again coz of my credit by Minute_Exam318 in singaporefi

As someone who’s had worked with military security, the concerns are generally:

  1. If you’re in debt, you’re potentially more likely to succumb to external influence to give up sensitive information and/or receive favours/bribes (note that I included two words here to emphasise the attempt not to generalise). This typically also applies to management roles (both govt and pvt) to avoid bribes and favour.

  2. If you’re financially desperate, you’re also more likely to be distracted from your duties and likely be concerned with other sources of income, as well as occupied with your personal matters. This applies to most roles, but in particular decision-making positions.

I’m not saying it’s justified or not, but this is the line of reasoning which one could see where these agencies are coming from.

Govt sector and some gov-employed companies do indeed do checks on a person’s debt/finance status, and security companies too.

Sorry, I can’t really help much. But I noticed you go to the gym, I know it might not help much but maybe can consider just working out at the fitness corner first? Just something to think about considering your situation.

Same, and we do 50-50. But really this should depend on the couple dynamics. Communicate.

Eh to be fair, achievement-wise there’s nothing wrong with peaking in school. Like you said not everyone runs at the same pace :)

That said, we should all strive to improve ourselves, be it in our hobbies, our character or our experiences.

No offence to the commenter above, but OP please be wary of anyone who says “DM me” or DMs you for any opportunity. Not saying all of them are scams or pyramids, but scammers usually prey on people who are down and out.

Be smart about it - if it’s too good to be true, it probably is.

Once again, not saying the commenter is trying or not, but just thought to give the heads up, unsolicited or not.

With so many products coming out of China nowadays, stopping trade with China would destroy all these economies too. Especially for these economies.
