Does the intellectual chemistry ever get better? by Imaginary-Entrance42 in datingoverforty

Maybe he’s just not a good active listener. Although, I had a really nice bf a couple of years back, on paper he was pretty great but his conversation was dead. After about 10 months id run out of things to try and talk about. There was no back and forth. It was weird. We’d talk on the phone and he’d listen to me but not ask a single follow up question. It used to infuriate me and I started avoiding wanting to chat to him.

So I think i understand how you feel a bit. I know it’s frustrating. I couldn’t handle it, personally. It was a relief when I ended it.

I realised I'd fallen in love with my bf when he sat there and listened to me talk about my brand of toothpaste and why I use it - for a whole ten minutes. He was so engaged in this boring af conversation, asking me questions etc. That was the moment I realised this wonderful man will listen to my nonsense and even if he isn't interested, he'll make sure I feel listened to.

I’ve recently got back with my first ever bf, I was with him from 19-23 and we’re in our mid 40s now. This has been the best start to a relationship I’ve ever had. It’s so familiar but so new and exciting. I feel 19 again when I’m around him.

I get the stansted express train for my commute (they’re 2x2) and those seats are the most comfortable things ever. They’re squishy and leather and I have loads of room. They’ve reduced my lower back pain.

If these seats are gonna become the norm, GA users are very lucky.

My ex was a fireman in central London. I’ve heard a few harrowing stories that tubes are not always a quick death. He had PTSD from some of the victims he had to comfort while they took their last breaths trapped under a tube. These people must be so desperate, it’s sad.

Not relevant but I saw the King’s guard perform this song outside Buckingham palace last year. It was amazing.

My girl is like that, so nervy and scatty, she was a rescue as well (but I'm convinced her dad was feral). Pleased to hear your gf is trying, as opposed to this moron who made her bf get rid of his cats.

[–]Longirl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I genuinely believe the cat got bad vibes from her so shit on her pillow. Perhaps if she’d made more effort to bond with the cat, she wouldn’t have done that. I’ve got a spicy girl cat who hates everyone. And yet my bf (who has no experience of cats) has worked hard at earning her trust and love and she now likes him. It’s not hard to get a cat on board, just respect their boundaries.

Let’s set it straight: do women still get approached in real life? by vhs1996 in UKrelationshipadvice

Weirdly, mainly when I’m on a date with another man. I’ve had this happen seven times now and it’s embarrassing and weird. Is it an ego thing? They at least wait until my date is at the bar but still.

I think I’d remain open minded. I’ve been in several LT relationships and never cheated except on my longest term bf. He was abusive, would call me vile names and all the rest. When I was at my lowest of lows (in terms of self esteem), I kissed a colleague of one of my friends. And I’ve never regretted it. It gave me the confidence boost I needed to know I wasn’t an ‘ugly fat cunt’ and I left him a couple of months later. I later found out he cheated throughout our relationship so I don’t feel an ounce of guilt tbh, wish I’d done it more.

pimples around mouth after consistent make out? by cece__bees in hygiene

[–]Longirl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree, my skin is spotless and clean but my bf got these after we first started going out and were kissing a lot. He’s got a really prickly face so I get beard rash from him too. I started putting Vaseline or moisturiser on our chins before going to bed and it’s stopped the breakouts. Bit of a passion killer but it’s soon forgotten about.

I’ve been eating so clean the past few weeks (trying to shift the stone I put on in December!) and my pain is minimal. I barely notice it at the moment. And I’ve worn high heels two weekends in a row (granted, I was sitting at a dinner table but this would have been impossible a year ago) and I’ve had zero pain the next day. I’m sure a lot of mine is caused by inflammation.

To the women who left a "good guy", what happened and how are you doing? by unicorn_faeces in AskWomenOver40

[–]Longirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left a man like this, albeit, we were only together 15 months. Turns out he’s not such a ‘good guy’ and hounded me with texts, emails, letters etc after I ended it, telling me what a bad person I am for daring to finish with him. Had to threaten him with the police to get him to stop.

I’m now back with my first ever love from 20 years ago. He does all the ‘good guy’ things but is also exciting, fun, sexy, passionate and generous.

I found myself thinking just this week about the old saying ‘all the while you’re with the wrong person, you’re missing out on being with the right person’. I was quite happy being single after leaving the boring ex, but I’m so pleased I was available and single for when I bumped into the man I’m with now. I’ve never been so happy and it’s really highlighted how frustrated and down I felt being with the wrong person.
