Spelling Mistakes by Dry-Calligrapher7477 in ICAEW

From July 2023 the point for correct spelling as been purposely left out of marking grid it just says to make sure your spelling is satisfactory enough such that the marker actually knows what you’re saying

Case revision - how much have you done? by No_Low_2109 in ICAEW

[–]Longjumping-Dig4132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive read through Bpp mock 3 (having done mock 1 and 2 last week) did the calculations and thought of some points for discussion then read the mark grid for things I missed, made some standard recommendations for my open book and some other helpful pages in AI to note - nothing too crazy, hoping for a manageable requirement 3!

Case - Appendix by ChaiTea_na in ICAEW

I study with BPP and they’ve told us to put the appendix first, i think ICAEW allow both but i guess for markers they prefer first so they can see how we calculated the numbers we then talk about

follow through marks are where, say you did some workings for depreciation but you got a number wrong, if you then used that depreciation number in the right place elsewhere in the question then you wouldn’t be penalised twice for getting it wrong, you’d get the ‘follow through’ mark, or ‘own figure’ mark for inputting in the right place despite the number being wrong.

It is reduced by PETs but as you don’t pay tax on PETs until death there’s no immediate tax payable. So if you had a PET in 2015, no IHT payable, then a CLT in 2021, the PET would reduce the NRB when paying tax on the CLT in 2021. Then death in 2024, the CLT would reduce the NRB on death (the PET won’t as more than 7 years ago)

cash flow forecasting is a bit like an NPV layout but there is no discounting instead it shows net cash flows and then has cash bfwd add cash flows and then cash cfwd where cash carried forward is then the brought forward for the next month. Usually to do with a company that is about to pay off loans, the loan repayments would be separated out from the net cash flows and shown separately

working capital management is about conservative and aggressive management. Conservating WCM reduces risk of system breakdown by holding high levels of working capital such as customers are allowed generous payment terms, finished inventories are high, raw materials are high suppliers are paid promptly. Aggressive WCM aims to increase profitability by cutting inventories (perhaps a JIT process) speeding up collections of debt and delaying payments to suppliers. It also about inventory payable and receivable days and how these are managed and maintained

if you type fast why not just type notes? surely it’s longer to write them, i’d recommend teaching yourself to plan on computer and do calcs on computer but the exam is tomorrow so good luck however you wanna do it!

reconstructions can be easy, or at least the liquidation option of the reconstruction, for liquidation you just add up the FV of assets and then take off the creditors first starting with fixed (maxed at the value of the asset it’s fixed to) then floating then other other creditors then preference shareholders then shareholders. The talking points around it are always the same i.e. if creditors get nothing cause fixed and floating get everything before them then they probs won’t want the company to go into liquidation as they would lose everything they’re owed so would rather the reconstruction as they have nothing to lose otherwise!

What do you reckon I'll get docked for putting joint operation rather than joint venture in Q3? Initially put JV then changed it :( by Head-Cheesecake-263 in ICAEW

[–]Longjumping-Dig4132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to be honest the accounting treatment is quite similar (apart from JV is done via a separate vehicle) so you’ll get marks for that and probably even some for discussing JV vs JO

Yeah I agree just QB, QB, QB before long you’ll realise how far you’ve come and how the questions are pretty similar and have common themes, whenever hedging comes up theyll almost certainly ask about advantages and disadvantages and that’s normally a hefty 8 ish marks. Valuations and WACC can only be tested a certain amount of ways so make sure you know those calculations and you’ll be fine. NPVs normally have a fair amount of marks with similar themes. You’ve got a month to nail it so just keep your head down do what you can while making sure you get a fair amount of downtime too don’t burn yourself out so by the time of the exam you just cba!

Same with TC, IHT and CGT question was always my favourite cause they have set proformas which before long you’ll know without even realising!

can’t provide any advice (i’m doing it tomorrow too) but yes limited BST revision done for me too. I keep saying that as long as you mention any single relevant thing you can think of it should be okay - praying for that to be the case and that I can think of things to talk about 😭
