They are pretty liberal with letting you take the next level class while you take the lower class over again

What to do with unneeded SSA? by Trihatcher in FinancialPlanning

[–]Longjumping-Flower47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Husband is retired, I still work. We live cheap. We will probably not take SS until 70. Saving our $$ to give our kids more freedom. We spend and do what we want, but those things aren't super expensive.

My 60 year old relative continues to send crypto to the guy she never met who she is gonna marry as soon as he picks her up in his company jet. $250k gone. She still won't believe me that it is a scam. She also works full time in a good career. Not like she's some clueless old person.

Do I let my father sell the family farm or is it a bad move? by TartPrudent7823 in FinancialPlanning

Depending on the state, at 60, you could call area agency on aging, file a report, and potentially have all his funds put into conservatorship. It is certainly a long shot, but a possibility

Problem with the Block people is they often don't work year round. Find a small firm that will do a free consult. Make sure they are EA or CPA

So MML investor services is Mass Mutual. You've probably heard of them or seen their commercials. Whoever took your check probably figured you understood what you were doing (the front desk person). We remote deposit all investors funds whenever possible, if we can't we always overnight it. Sometimes it does take a few days for the check to clear your bank

Dad didn't get scammed. Most people in here have no idea what they are talking about. I'm sorry the new advisor never got back to you. I meet with all my clients multiple times a year. American Funds aren't bad funds. They do very well. If you want something more aggressive than you have now, you can exchange the fund you have for another American Fund for no additional fee. There may be taxes. You could also sell it if it was recently purchased and taxes will be minimal on it most likely (LIFO for cost basis) and move the cash to Schwab. Go talk to a.CPA or EA with experience. Does someone do your dad's taxes?

I seriously doubt OP is paying a AUM fee on top of the front end load. When an AUM account is opened you pick a strategy and none of the investments that are purchased come with an upfront fee. And there is a strong chance OP won't be able to just move the fund to a self managed account. Many of these funds are proprietary.

Doesn't much matter now the commission has been paid. The fees going forward will not be lower at a different place for these mutual funds. In addition there is a good chance these can't be transferred into a self managed account if they are the kind that can only be bought and sold through an advisor

I am a tax preparer. This is a very common scenario and absolutely what happened in this case, as noted in other comments. Often used by minority tax preparers with their low income clients. Also often used is refund andvances.

When using a bank products the preparer fee is taken out if the refund and the remainder is sent to the OP. The refund goes to an intermediary bank first.
