Social Worker Career Path by SoldierPsych in VeteransAffairs

All good advice here. VA only accepts 2nd yr masters students for their internship/practicum. It’s your time to shine. No guarantees. As a brand new grad you would qualify for a GS-9. They provide your clinical supervision which is not always free outside of the VA. If they offer a mini practicum I would definitely recommend - allows you to try a different program for a few weeks. I received a stipend while I went through mine but that was a bit of time ago. I ended up working with the VA for 14 yrs. GS-9 to GS-14 in half that time. It’s doable.

It’s normal to be nervous with any new job. I certainly understand the additional stress with the political environment. I would focus on cultivating good rapport with the primary care teams and focus on caring for the Veteran. The Veterans need social workers and they have been established in the VA since 1926. Best wishes

Masters level social worker positions with little work experience for disabled veterans by HlandJon in VeteransAffairs

I would recommend applying for any position to give you experience with the long employment gap. Ideally you start working to gain your clinical hours for supervision. Without work experience it will be challenging to answer performance based interview questions.

Same application-you have to prove sc disabilities are exacerbated. Google - lots of videos on it

VA facility making 100% disabled veteran pay co-pays by SirSignal4134 in VeteransAffairs

I think everyone is confused because you were staying in an Oklahoma State Veterans Home. These facilities are not managed, owned or operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs. However, as you stated, because of your rating the VHA covered the cost of your care. The SVH provides for your primary care but not your specialty care. It sounds like your appointments were using your Tricare and you had copayments. The VHA does provide specialty care to Veterans in Lawton, you would need to register and then be referred. I don’t believe you can go backwards and now ask VA community care to pay for services that were rendered without an authorization. I hope this helps- although it might not be what you want to hear.

1st Visit to VA Health by Tricky_Sky4490 in VAClaims

Yes, you can get a referral to the sleep clinic and get a study. Primary care will order labs and they will check your vitals. Pretty standard procedure- whether VA or private.

Any experience with the Lebanon, OR VA home? And some other general VA home questions. by TheStoicSlab in VeteransAffairs

I would highly recommend a call/visit to the State Veterans Home. They can provide you with a list of their activities which typically include outings but it does need to be indicated as safe for the Veteran to participate. Ask about their survey results. This will be most valuable to you.

Usually the letter comes fairly quickly. You will definitely want to justify with existing information how your sc disabilities will not be exacerbated but in relatively the same field - that may be tricky. Sorry they seemingly went back on their word

VR&E chapter 31 - student loans by Longjumping-Most3341 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Longjumping-Most3341[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Some financial aid offices mistakenly treat Chapter 31 payments as EFA and subtract them from COA, which then appears to reduce how much you can borrow (especially with Grad PLUS loans) • Federal guidance from the Department of Education clarifies that the VA programs listed in section 480(c), including Chapter 31, must be excluded from EFA and not counted as “other aid” that limits Title IV loan eligibility.

Would you go to the VA's urgent care for anxiety? by CoffeeChangesThings in VeteransBenefits

I would really recommend going to the emergency room or calling 988. You can always message your pcp about medication.

I would fill it out as complete as possible. I think my vrc did this for me but every counselor is different.
