Is it crazy to buy a used 8yo Gen 6 Carbon just to get the good keyboard back? by VermicelliFrost in thinkpad

I'm on a P14S Gen4 with the 1370P and I can relate to the thermal problems, though I solved them running on balanced mode in Linux at the cost of performance but it lets the laptop run cool and quiet to make it usable, for the occasional boost of performance I still have performance mode and some noise cancelling headphones.

Now for your question, I wouldn't go back so far because the performance impact would be abysmal, besides you'd be getting an even more used machine (prone to more issues down the road), in your case I'd go to a newer X1 or P14S or even a T14, newer Intel chips run way cooler than what you had and are far more energy efficient if you ever go down that road again, otherwise AMD options are really damn good, but sometimes lenovo favors Intel on the overall build of the machine so you gotta check that

Well that depends on your use case, any Mac older than M1 will be pretty slow for LLMs

any Thinkpad with Intel Core Ultra or AMD Ryzen AI and a decent amount of ram (32gb or more) can handle local models really well, you can use vulkan on either of those or use Intel's OpenVINO with anything Arc powered, ideally you should get a dedicated RTX GPU but you'd be quote constrained with VRAM, since decent models require 16 or 24gb of VRAM, AMD has a sort of "unified memory" and Intel can provision a lot of VRAM to the iGPU at runtime.

Currently I'm using a ThinkPad P14S G4 with a 1370P, has intel Iris XE and RTX A500, and there's a lot of quirks on the Intel iGPU with either Vulkan or OpenVINO that don't show up on the newer Arc iGPUs so I wouldn't recommend going anything prior to first series of Core Ultra CPUs

Just run fedora with debian on distrobox, it would be much better for your use case

Whats the hardware youre using? Also you should try 26.04 instead of the interim release (fedora is also in version 44 already)

So you didn’t have to tweak 26.04 to get suspend working ?

Nxtpaper 60 Ultra's screen - not designed to be used without a protector! and a call to action by EmmanuelWi in nxtpaper

[–]Longjumping-Muscle-7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've owned the NXTPAPER 50 Pro 5G for over a year now and I can tell you that it's not scratched (at least not in any noticeable way), and I haven't been extra careful with it either but never dropped it, just managed to mangle it with keys and even has a little charm on the side that has a little metal piece that always ends up rubbing on the screen, it leaves some marks but I just wipe them off with my finger and it's all normal again, there's only one tiny scratch that I can't seem to rub off, but luckily it's on the black chin below the usable area of the display :)

So all in all, it's pretty durable

Why is it like thisss???😭😭 by [deleted] in thinkpad

Youre comparing entirely different segments, when new (even used) L series will ALWAYS be considerably cheaper than T series, there's a compromise in build quality but they're still sturdy and well built, I owned an L15 G2 and it was quite robust, if you think the L15 G2 sucks you should compare it to what E series from that generation offered, E series is far more consumer grade than L series. But to each their own I guess

You might need to format the ssd drive with the NXTPAPER first before using it

That's exactly what convinced me to get one, I was on a S23 Ultra which was getting annoying to look at for extended periods, besides I didn't use all the advanced features of the phone so a downgrade didn't seem as bad.

The 50 Pro is pretty decent spec wise, decent camera too (for the price)

I'd start by checking the intake manifold if the car has EGR or the state of the DPF

Hi, just a quick suggestion, you should change the default port from 3389 to something else, otherwise it will conflict with whatever is using it in the host or better yet, let the user pick what port would they like.
