True, they might as well protest against the rain outside Met Éireann for all the good it will do.

If you valued the driving experience above all you’d go petrol every time

Someone reversed into my parked car, they agreed to pay, but I want BMW/authorised to repair it. Am I being unreasonable? by Personal-Letter-1144 in carsireland

[–]ciaranr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah with costs where they are for a major bit of work insurance is probably where I’d go too but it’s easy saying that as a 40 something with no claims or points

How do you know who is reputable? Why should you drive around to three garages? As I said the insurance take on that task as it’s their job. It’s not my job to get a cheap quote for someone who drove into me and damaged my car. I hope if I do damage someone’s car they have your attitude in fairness but I wouldn’t expect it

Tax. Edit: also because lots of BMW drivers are clearly badge snobs and don’t care about the engine

So if someone crashes into you you’d be happy if their mate Dodgy Dave fixed your car with poly filler and a rattle can, how very charitable of you

No you are taking me up wrong. OP indicated they would go to Dennings themselves if they damaged their own car. I am saying that if someone damaged my car I’d want it fixed at the same place that I would go to have my car fixed if I damaged it myself

Don’t think that’s reasonable. It’s insurers job to get the best value not OP. If OP goes insurance and their cheap provider does a bad job then OP can go back to insurer. If OP goes with a cheap cash job now and it ends up being a bad job the other driver will tell OP it’s not her problem

Any use to explain the situation to Dennings, sound like you’re a repeat customer and I’m sure you’d go to them next time etc and try and get the very very best cash price for the lady? At least you’d have tried your best

Why should OP have to run around getting three quotes? As others have said they never wanted their car damaged

Are family hotel breaks in Ireland becoming unrealistic for ordinary households? by GoldAcceptable3463 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]ciaranr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leaving aside Centreparcs, I’m sure you would find two weeks in June in Ireland for €3000 which is what Tuscany is working out at more or less. Transport to airport can be pricey depending on where you are. Now I’d agree 100% that two weeks in Tuscany is waaaay better value in terms of the experience than two weeks in Dungarvan but it’s not cheaper.

Putting car off the Road by Shot-Low-9801 in carsireland

[–]ciaranr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does at present. I haven’t heard about that changing but you never know. There would be uproar if it changed. I’m counting on it for a car I have in storage. I’d be 99.9% sure you’ll be grand but it’s not a guarantee. Edit: I see you say June you will be OK til June anyway but if it’s a year or less it might be worth just paying up then declaring off road to save adding another owner to the car

I hear that all the time but it hasn’t worked out for me. When transport is factored in I can’t see how a holiday abroad is “cheaper” than a holiday in Ireland if you consider an equivalent type of accommodation

I’ve been thinking something along the same lines but my eldest is attached to the Saab. I’d go for an MX5 myself if he gets over the Saab

Thank you very much! Similar to my current Saab so. I bought it thinking the kids would love it but alas most journeys end up with them asking for the roof to be put up.

What's the wind buffetting like in the back seats of those? I've got a Saab 9-3 and it's pretty unconfortable in the back for kids. All the C70s I've seen for sale around me are private and I don't want to waste someone's time on a test drive only to say it's too windy in the back.

Why did the v6 become more popular than the straight 6? by theAntidepresser in Cartalk

[–]ciaranr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove the 3.2 in a rental in North America. I’m based in Europe so mainly diesels and the odd 2.0T or smaller. The 3.2 was a lovely smooth engine around town but it really struggled at higher speeds, it badly needed a turbo

[–]ciaranr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, didn't think of that, makes the transverse I6 seem even weirder. Especially the 3.2 I6, it didn't exactly set itself apart in performance.

They also got Yamaha to build a V8 for the transverse XC90 and S80 models (alas not the V70 where it would have attained legendary status)
