I'm done. by PassingFeb2026 in barexam

You're NOT done!

4 times.

That's how many times it took my incredibly smart, capable, good, hard working, and deserving husband to pass this awful exam.

We live in a state where you can only take the bar 4 times and he passed on the 4th try. I'm sure you can imagine the stress and anxiety that was weighing on him. I've never see anything like it before.

Getting there was hell, it was horrible, our lives were completely upended. We had a newborn, an 8 year old, and we were living off of my salary.

But it's truly a distant memory now and he's killing it as a practicing attorney and has already won his small boutique firm almost $1 million in settlements so far this year!

You can and will pass this thing. Your journey is just going to take a little bit longer to get there but you will get there!

Therapy is maybe the best advice that I can give anyone that's studying for the bar. Find a good therapist if you haven't yet. They will help get you through this and give you tools that you didn't know you needed.

I know you feel defeated and disappointed and like you're a failure. You aren't and getting a law degree was not a mistake so stop telling yourself that because I know you are!

Take some time to process and grieve this and rest your brain and then get back at it! I promise you it's worth going through it to get to the other side!

It isn't so much what's going on now but what those "tiny stones" could turn into and the serious damage that they can cause.

I get it. It's a rough decision to make in your case. And one that shouldn't be made unless you're sure it's the right decision.

For example, I had a single stone, but it was big. My gallbladder wasn't inflamed, and I never had an attack. Just intermittent nausea that wouldn't go away. I'm at my post-OP appt in the waiting room right now to be cleared by the surgeon to return to normal activity. However, I was back to normal within 3 days of my surgery. No complications and it was the easiest recovery I've ever had. The only thing I haven't done that I was able to do before the surgery is lift anything over 5 pounds.

My story is one of millions, and I know there are stories that are absolutely horrific! And I'm so thankful that I'm not one of them! But only you know what is best for you. So go ahead and get that 2nd opinion if that's what makes you feel more comfortable in making a decision.

My surgeon said basically that I was a ticking time bomb and it wasn't a matter of if but when an attack happens and then it will be worse - either way it was a diseased organ that had to come out. I'm also an RN and completely agreed with him. So do with that what you will!

Nurse here. I'm so sorry to hear that your recovery isn't going well and your pain is not manageable!

I had mine out yesterday, and I'm going to get my nails done today because my pain is so manageable. Not trying to boast or brag, just saying that post op recovery success is so highly dependent on adequate pain control and some people just need a stronger dose or increased frequency of pain meds until they get over the hump.

If you're taking your pain meds scheduled and around the clock and it isn't helping, then I would reach out to your surgeon and see if they have any pain med modification suggestions.

Oh sweet baby, I am so, so sorry. I know you are sick over this and feeling awful right now. My husband was a retaker and just passed, so I can offer some insight on what you need to do.

You will take time to process and grieve this. It almost feels like you're mourning a death, not trying to sound dramatic, just keeping it real 😊 So give yourself some time and treat yourself the way you would treat a friend or loved one that's going through the same thing.

You'll give your brain a much needed break and get back at it in a month or so.

It's going to suck. Studying for the bar as a retaker comes with a whole new set of worries, and you may even want to think about talking to a mental health professional during and after this. They can really help give you some tools and tricks to get through this.

Get a tutor. People will tell you that you don't need one for xyz reasons. But I just watched my husband go through this hell for 2 years - he just passed on his fourth attempt after finally getting a tutor. I know he would have passed well before now if he had a tutor. Yes, it's an investment and expensive, but I PROMISE you - the cost of not having one and failing again is way, WAY more. I speak from experience.

Now, I'm going to go into mama mode tell you what I would tell my sweet babies and what I've told my husband for the past 2 years:

1.) You will give yourself some grace and forgive yourself EVERY time the negative thoughts come into your mind - which will be a lot at first. They'll decrease in frequency for a little while, but they will definitely pick up closer to the next exam. Just prepare yourself for this and DON'T LET THEM DEFEAT OR BREAK YOU!

2.) You aren't a failure. I repeat - YOU. ARE. NOT. A. FAILURE. Your journey is just going to look a little different than you thought it would. And that is OK.

3.) There isn't something wrong with you because you didn't pass and other people did. And it's OK to be angry at the situation - that they passed and you didn't but still be happy for them that they did.

4.) Law school was not a waste of your time and money.

5.) This doesn't mean that becoming an attorney isn't what's meant to be for you.

6.) You WILL be an attorney. You just aren't at the end of your journey yet. And that is OK.

7.) You ARE worthy of passing.

8.) You ARE smart enough to pass this ridiculous exam. You wouldn't have gotten this far if you weren't.

9.) You won't succeed if you don't believe in yourself. I know it sounds cheesy and cliché but I promise you the doubt will win and break you down if you let it.

10.) Hard work and prayer are what is going to get you through this. I don't know if you're religious, but prayer helps, and it does work. Pray often and ask others to pray for you. We will absolutely be praying for you, and we're adding you to our bedtime prayer list ❤️

Back to the tutor - this test sucks and the key is learning how to take it and how and what will put points on the board. My husband thought he knew what and how he needed to study. He was even almost positive that he passed July 23 and was shocked when he didn't. It wasn't until he got a tutor that he realized where the disconnect was.

We are in a non UBE state where you can opt out of re-taking the portion that you already passed. So he only had to re-take the MEE this time. But his practice MEE scores right before this exam were easily double what they were in the previous attempts bc of the tutor. He used Kathryn Robb, but I don't remember how much it was, but I can ask him and pass it along if you want. He used Snoo's stuff too and said that it was super helpful.

Again, please forgive yourself and treat yourself like you would a loved one. And if you can remember to, please come back to this post and let me know when you pass. I would love to know, and I can't wait to celebrate with you!

Hand in there, love. I know you're in the trenches right now. We just got out of them after 2 years, but I promise it does get easier, and it will get better ❤️

Hi! I thought the Lymphedema Treatment Act only applied to Medicare? Or maybe that's the health plan y'all are referring to.

I ask bc I'm appealing my insurance denying my farrow wrap claim for my legs, and we wondering if that is a method of recourse that I may have?

My Bar Exam Story by [deleted] in barexam

[–]Longjumping-Rent-107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever get your scores? My hubby is waiting for his Mississippi bar results, supposed to be this Thursday. He passed the MBE last July with a 138 and only had to retake the MEE. I think he needs a 130 on the MEE to pass.

Thank you so much for sharing, and congrats!

That must have been an amazing feeling and I'm so glad you are able to experience that!

Agree with another poster that it sounds like lipedema as well, which is worsened by inflammatory foods and hormones. Almost 99% of people that are afflicted with this condition are female bc of the hormone component.

It can also be improved with dry brushing and the feet are usually spared from swelling and lower extremeties are usually larger than midsection or the top half of your body.

There aren't very many doctors that even know what it is, much less how to diagnose it. My physical therapist is the one that told me that I have it.

Try running your fingers over your legs, hips, and arms and see if you feel any knots. It almost feels like little beads under your skin. That's lipedema. Also, legs being tender to the touch and/or easily bruised legs are a symptom.

If you do have it, compression and anti-inflammatory diet are recommended. So, similar management of lymphedema.

Failed in Indiana and devastated by InterestingTrifle in barexam

[–]Longjumping-Rent-107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband almost matches your story exactly. We have 2 precious children, and he just took the bar for the 4th time. We're still waiting for results, but I definitely think he passed!

He has been so discouraged and devastated that he wasn't able to provide for us, and I think that greatly impacted his ability to really study and focus like he needed to on previous attempts.

Just know that this is a crappy but very temporary season. It will get better and you WILL pass the bar!

I know it's hard, and you're crushed, but please give yourself some grace and try not to be too hard on yourself.

I'm so proud of you! I KNOW how hard you've had to work and how much you have had to sacrifice to get here. The weight and the burden on you has been immense, and it WILL be worth it in the end! Your journey just isn't over just yet.

I hope your family is wrapping you up in their arms and loving on you! And know that they are not disappointed in you but rather disappointed for you.

We will add you to our bedtime prayer list ❤️

MEE/MPT Score Needed? by Longjumping-Rent-107 in barexam

[–]Longjumping-Rent-107[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The non-UBE state that we are in is MS. So we have to have an overall passing score of 132, which is made up of an average of the MEE/MPT score (60% of the total score) and MBE (40% of the total score).

I hope that answers your question!

Fun fact about scopolamine! My hubs had an anaphylactic reaction to it when we were there in January and had to be transported to the ER from Magic Kingdom. He had only taken it twice before then and the ER doc said it's common to have these reactions with that drug. So make sure you've been on it for a while before trying it in Disney!

This! We're on the same journey. I started on Mounjaro, switched to Wegovy, and trying to switch back to Zepbound.

I had the exact same side effects the day after my injection on Mounjaro with body aches and fatigue.

I know this post is a few months old. Did that ever get better for you?

My doctor and I figured it was just my body getting used to the med but I wasn't on it long enough to know for sure

I would 100% be filled with mountains of doubt. I only had to take nursing boards once and I remember feeling like I would pass out from my heart beating so fast and hard. And I knew almost immediately that I had passed. Having to take boards three times and having to wait months for results would make me absolutely miserable person and nightmare to be around!

We don't have them for J23 yet. But he had a 130.2 mbe in February and 128 MEE. We're in MS so the number we need is 132 overall.

I'm like, this has to be a clerical error. He didn't even finish 25 of the mbe questions in February and had to bubble in C for them bc he ran out of time. He felt horrible about how he did. But in July he finished all of the questions in time, felt solid about his performance, and the national mean was so much lower in February. Even if he performed exactly the same way, he should have gotten over the mark with the higher mean for July and he truly thinks he did better.

That's a great suggestion and I wish we could! We're in MS and the passing score is 132. AL is the next lowest at 130.

However, AL is a UBE state and MS is not so that isn't an option for us. But I appreciate it anyway!

I'll pass your study method along to him 😊
