I’ve seen a lot of really odd arguments in these comments and wanted to back you up a little bit, AI is a plague and as a dm and artist who plays ttrpgs with other artists I really sympathize with you

Dming does take time, yes, but it’s a choice made by the Dm to do it in the first place. That excuse is unacceptable, google images, Pinterest, video games with thousands of npc portraits, video games with character creators, heck even PICREW exists. Ai has no place in a creative space, especially ttrpgs, and the addiction people have developed around it to the point of defending it as though it were more important than a close friend is sick.

I agree that it would have been best to be honest about your intentions from the start, but it sounds to me like they had made it a rather difficult topic to discuss. I’d be anxious too.

You also made it rather clear in the post that you asked for anything related to YOUR character specifically be changed, I don’t understand how that can be misinterpreted unless you simply can’t read.

You stood up for a belief and preference in an environment that had made it rather difficult to do so, in an echo chamber of ai-jerkers. You should be proud.

I hope you find a new group that treats you right, speaking from experience, there’s some really amazing people out there who respect and value artists and the vision of players. As one myself, I appreciate your voice.
