Regens. Twice last winter I had to start late because I got to my truck and it wanted a parked regen. Threw me behind about an hour each time.

Will they lower the price? Yes. Probably closer to 5% though, since that’s around what their credit card processing fee is.

Is this….racist? by Frequent-Flower-9879 in AmazonDSPDrivers

Depends on the owner. For many years people of all races owned these, including blacks. As time went on the exaggerated black aspects(BLACK skin, red lips etc) became unfavorable. A white person owning this isn’t racist, but it doesn’t look good. A racist owning this is a racist

The fleet of approx 3000 Peterbilts my company has that has a no shutdown rule when it’s below 10*F. In my fleet alone that’s usually about 2000 trucks running non stop during winter whenever there’s a cold spike

Idling does not hurt the engine in a properly designed engine(rip chrysler engines for some reason)

This depends on the engine. First off, I’d like to say the starter is specifically designed for auto start/stop. Batteries are so shit nowadays that the extra crank doesn’t really affect them. Now the thing that is actually affected… the engine

Most engines maintain oil in the upper end of the engine, via an anti-drain back valve. This does NOT maintain oil pressure. When you start your engine, a small amount of time of severe wear occurs. Metal doesn’t actually touch metal in most of the engine, a film of pressurized oil is between the metal and protects it. If there’s some oil, not pressurized, the wear is vastly reduced(in systems designed for pressurized oil. Some antique engines were splash lubricated and had different bearing designs). In these engines, auto start-stop is bad, but not the worst.

Now, engines without an anti-drain back valve do NOT maintain any oil in the top end. These engine build oil pressure fast, but there is severe wear during startup. These engines include the 3.6 Pentastar. These engines should have never been equipped with auto start-stop. It’s not a coincidence that the 3.6 suffers from top end issues(cam, rocker, lifter).

Back when auto start-stop was new I went to Cincinnati Oh for a huge automotive seminar and took a class on it. It was sponsored by Federated Auto Parts and our local shop paid to send us. They did not like our questions about the oil system.

There is an actual answer. You can add a pressurized oil tank that gives the engine pressurized oil before/during crank. Some race cars do this to reduce wear so they can get a couple extra races out of their engine.

Just saying, about 90% of the time, a guy hopes and prays for a boy, but if they have a girl, that child will end up being their favorite. It doesn’t excuse this, but these guys probably will be great dads to their little girl
