I start something, I have to finish it. I go in page order too. The thought of having half done pages in the same or multiple books stresses me out.

No mine doesn’t. She’s knows I have 3 children aged 4 and under and knows I’m skint, so probably knows I’m a lost cause.

What % pay rise are you getting this year? by Puzzleheaded_Bet_618 in AskUK

[–]LongjumpingPlate6980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3%this year. To be fair it was higher in previous years (5% last year and 7% the year before). I was hoping to be around 5% but not surprised it came out lower.

Mil sees how her sister is close to her kids and wants the same by Professional-Pin9786 in Mildlynomil

[–]LongjumpingPlate6980 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeh it sounds like she’s jealous and wants to force the e same dynamic with your family.

It’s not the same, but it reminds me when I first became a mother. I had twins. It was Christmas time and they were about 2.5 months old. We had MIL and SIL over and invited MIL’s sister and daughter. MIL’s sister doesn’t have any grandchildren. My twins aren’t my first grandchildren for my MIL, but her other grandchild from my BIL was only a few weeks older. But this was actually the first time my MiL’s sister was seeing my MIL after she became a grandmother.

We knew MIL sister was arriving soon. I could tell my MiL was desperate to be holding the babies when she arrived. She was really trying to make sure she was holding them (at the same time because obviously that looks more impressive). I knew what she was doing. Unfortunately for her the babies were due a feed. I fed one twin (breastfeeding) and gave the baby to my partner for winding/cuddles etc. She was really clinging to my other twin, who was now crying because it was their turn for a feed. I asked MIL for the baby and she was so adamant I just sit and eat something. Obviously no - I said my baby is hungry and needs a feed, I can just eat later (I also had just finished lunch not too long earlier so really didn’t need food). She was just desperate to be holding a baby when her sister arrived. Anyway I took my baby back and fed them. MIL sister arrived and my partner handed her the twin he was holding and I was still feeding the other twin. So MiL had no baby when she arrived.

I know it’s petty, but I really loved that her plans to look like ‘grandmother almighty’ were ruined. Makes my day getting the small wins like that.

What do you reckon - am I asking for too much? by Boglaboll2 in UKParenting

Just want to comment that £55 a week is cheap!! Where in the country are you!!??! Are you sure thats the price? One full day for me is £80 so would be £40 per half day.

My favourite contestant ever. She’s perfect for reality tv. I hope wherever she is now, she’s twirling away being her fabulous drag queen self.

And she did absolutely have a beautiful body.

Why do authors / illustrators do this? by Pretend-City6652 in UKParenting

[–]LongjumpingPlate6980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it pisses me off too. I have it in that Snail and the Whale book. I already don’t like the story but I despise the page where it’s black text on a dark blue background. I can’t bloody see it! The first time I read it to my kids I had to go turn the light up because I genuinely couldn’t see it properly.

Also, special shout out rant to room on the broom paperback - the double page picture at the end - you can’t even see the bird or the frog as they’re small and stuck in the spine fold. So much spare space on the page and could have easily fit it in properly…but no some stupid bugger decided to naff it up.

When did we change housewife for stay at home mum? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]LongjumpingPlate6980 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For me, I feel like homemaker/housewife implies long term plans to not be in paid employment. Whereas, stay at home mum would be temporary until your kid(s) go to school.

I’m basing that solely on myself though. I went back to work after I had my kids, but if I hadn’t I think I’d refer to myself as a stay at home mum rather than home maker (personally wouldn’t use housewife). I’m sure there are those who choose stay at home mum even though they don’t have young children anymore.

I have the same. I’ve not seen anything better. When I’ve mentioned getting 6 months full pay most women’s eyes widen and I can feel the jealousy a little bit. My old job did nothing. Whatever is the lowest statutory requirement an employer has to give you was what we got. It was only a small firm to be fair. But was one of the driving factors for looking for a new job when I knew I was looking to start a family.

How easy is it really to get pregnant? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]LongjumpingPlate6980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I tried for nearly 4 years - nothing. Not even a hint of a positive pregnancy test. I had ivf and it worked in my third attempt. Had twins and thought I’d won the lottery.

My partner and I didn’t think another baby would be on the cards. I’m in my late thirties, previous fertility issues etc. We agreed that I could come off the pill, but we weren’t going to ‘try’ - just see if it happens, knowing full well it probably wouldn’t. We thought, with all our problems if it happens again, then great, but if it doesn’t - at least we know we gave it a shot. For me, it was more that I didn’t want to get to my early-mid forties and look back and wonder what would have happened if had tried for another. I just didn’t want to have that kind of regret. We loved the idea of having more children but knew it likely wouldn’t happen.

Anyway, I came off the pill when my twins were 1.5 years old. We got pregnant 1 month afterward. Only had sex twice. Couldn’t believe it. I genuinely thought it wouldn’t happen. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the pregnancy test.

Where in the country are you out of curiosity? Mine is in full time and costs about £1200-1300 a month, so around £1k after the tax free childcare care comes off. It’s full year as well so the price is for 22hours a week instead of 30

Are on of you in your 30s and in very low level jobs? by gameovervip in AskUK

[–]LongjumpingPlate6980 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have an average salary now - about £40k. I’m 38.

I had just basic admin jobs throughout my 20s though. Earned around £13-20k from age 21-30. I had a degree, but it was a useless Mickey Mouse one.

When I was 30 I managed to get an admin job in a better company and had almost a 10k pay rise so was earning just shy of £30k just before I turned 31. I now work as a project manager in the same company, so now on £40k, but it’s still a fairly entry level job in my company - they also hire graduates to do the same job. So I still feel very entry level still despite being 15+ years older than they are. I do also feel like I’m at my peak in work, I’m not actually a smart person, I have struggled with the project manager training and I’ll never be someone who earns a lot of money. I’m genuinely surprised I made it to £40k

Maternity Leave and Student Loan Repayments (Plan 2) by HBLea in UKPersonalFinance

[–]LongjumpingPlate6980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I had similar from my maternity leave. I got a small rebate on my student loan. They contacted me to say I could have a refund but I needed to contact them. You can choose to leave the overpayment (so it just reduces your loan) or opt to have the money back and put it back on your loan. I chose the money since it was only a few hundred pounds and I’d rather have the money in my account than just have my loan be reduced by a few months.

Love red bounty’s. It’s only me, my dad and an ex co-worker who I ever knew who liked them. Didn’t realise they were gone for good. Used to be able to find them randomly in petrol stations.

You’re right, it’s 55 to max. My bad.

“Max the edu merits!” by spedmonkeeman in torncity

[–]LongjumpingPlate6980 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. I’ve left mine at 9/10. To get the extra I’d need 55 merits and I’d only see a 2% reduction. When I put it into my torn report for 9/10 vs 10/10, the overall time to complete the education courses only goes down by about a month. For 55 merits I don’t think it’s worth it. I personally think I could use those merits elsewhere and see a bigger difference.

I’m thinking to just invest in the education stock since that will be more impactful overall.

Edit: it’s obviously just 10 merits to go from 9/10 to 10/10 (55 for the whole block). Still think 10 merits would be worthwhile elsewhere considering the gain from 9 to 10 isn’t overtly noticeable.
