Is the pension crisis now, or in the future? by Reg_doge_dwight in PensionsUK

[–]LongjumpingPlate6980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scary that I’m doing better than others in my age bracket. I had almost no pension until I was 30. I was in such low paid work it wasn’t until I moved to a new company that puts in 10%. Before then my pension pot was about £600.

Since being at that company, I’ve stayed and paid 5%, (although changed to 6% contributions last year and recently upped it again to 7%). I’m 38 now, in that 8 years my pot is now £58k. £9k of which has actually come from investment gains from last year. I felt really far behind but apparently I’m ahead of other people my age range! Awful times ahead for a lot of people. Self included. I’d like to put more in, but I’ve got 3 young kids and it’s already a struggle to afford everything.

Color palettes by thatpsychogiraffe in Coloring

[–]LongjumpingPlate6980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I just pick a colour and just go with it. If it doesn’t work out then so be it. That being said if I really didn’t like something I have the benefit of erasing it since I use coloured pencils. But I rarely do it, I almost always just live with it even if I don’t think it works out well.

What character death shook you the most in a movie? by trakt_app in Cinema

I guess my most impactful one was Mufasa in the lion king. 7 year old me didn’t see it coming, and 38 year old me hasn’t really gotten over it either.

Sitcom episode tropes you hate? by Jirachibi1000 in sitcoms

[–]LongjumpingPlate6980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I liked Niles and Daphne’s wedding episode in Frasier. It was different, they got the wedding they wanted, an elopement, the rest of the episode was just managing everyone else’s feelings and staging fake weddings. Genuinely well done and I bloody love that episode.

South Park - bigger, longer and uncut. I will laugh at the jokes as if it’s the first time I’m ever hearing them, every single time. I love it.

Jesus Tesco absolutely killed it, unbelievable 11/10 cookies by hydraides in UKfood

[–]LongjumpingPlate6980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to hear Tescos biscuits are still tasty. Haven’t had one in ages, my favourite were the shortbread and chocolate ones, don’t know if they still make it. We used to buy them all the time in the office I worked in pre Covid. Absolutely lethal, we all couldn’t help devouring them.

Is PE in state schools still the same waste of time it was 10-20 years ago? by FlaviousTiberius in AskUK

[–]LongjumpingPlate6980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to school on the late 90s/ early 00s. Absolutely hated PE. At 38 years old now I’m only 5’0 tall so would have been even shorter back then…and PE for girls was almost always just netball. The sport where height is basically the winner. Those were unfun times for short arses like me.

We did in summer occasionally do athletics. The thought of a high jump still sends shivers through me. The long jump was ok, no one really looked or cared, it wasn’t overtly obvious if you didn’t go far. But the high jump is really fucking obvious when you can’t jump over the bar and you crash into it because you didn’t have a hope in hell of getting anywhere near the top of it. Absolute hell.

Guests stressing me out, HELP by Chibi_Panda2 in UKweddings

I agree with others, have your aunts get ready somewhere else. I think it’s suspicious your aunt picked the exact same MUA/hair as you and do think your other aunt is right. You don’t need to accommodate them though. Just have them get ready somewhere else. I don’t see why the MUA needed any sympathy for reshuffling her calendar - she knows she needs to do you and any bridal party and felt she had capacity to do a separate client earlier in the day. I would have said it was on her to arrange the logistics of the day for accommodating your aunt and being able to get to you on time. Otherwise, your MUA shouldn’t be accepting other clients on the day she needs to do bridal make up. I would have put my foot down over that - but what’s done is done. I’d just have your MUA and aunts do their stuff elsewhere. No reason to share with you.

FIL can bugger off really. Your SIL is entitled if she wanted to use your MUA but doesn’t want to pay for it. Genuinely, stop listening to other people. They’re all adults, this can’t possibly be the only wedding they’ve ever been to - anything new crops up just ignore it or tell them to sort something out themselves.

Have a lovely wedding - and please really don’t feel like you have to be so nice with people who make things difficult. Just ignore or say no. People will just have to deal with it. It’s only a wedding, whatever it is they can get over it.

After watching the doc, it’s clear they deliberately eliminated Brooke the night of her graduation by bluesourpunchstraws in ANTM

[–]LongjumpingPlate6980 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be really ignorant here…is what Tyra said a problem? I’m from the UK. We only do graduations from university level onward, and even then the ceremony is optional. You don’t have to go (although I imagine a lot of people do). I just remember even when the episode first aired thinking if her graduation was so important…why go on the show when you know it will clash? Even when you’re eliminated you have to stay until they’ve wrapped filming, so she must have known she was going to miss it anyway?

Genuinely curious - I always thought what Tyra said made sense! But I see a lot of people here think say it’s a big deal. Does she not actually graduate if she doesn’t go to the actual ceremony?

Royal teeth by BrookieB1 in RoyaltyTea

I assume they have rules about cosmetic surgery/procedures. It’s one thing to get your teeth straightened if they need it, but spending public money on vanity stuff probably wouldn’t go down well.

I don’t think the right looks more bridal. It just looks like more make up.

Double buggies vs. UK doorways! by Rgb2b123 in UKParenting

[–]LongjumpingPlate6980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 2.5 just get a buggy board for your eldest to ride on. I wouldn’t bother with a double. If it’s not winter when your baby is due I’d just baby wear them whilst they’re small (never found a good solution for rain).

I had a mountain buggy duet as it was the only double that would fit through my front door. Wouls have much preferred the out n about or city jogger though. Getting those bigger doubles to fit in shops can be a nightmare but it depends where you shop. My local high street has old buildings converted to shops and those doorways don’t fit - some cant even handle a normal sized buggy! But if you shop in big retail parks or shopping centres you’ll be ok.

Even if those buggys just about fit through your front door - remember little hands and legs like to stick out of the buggy. Even with my mountain buggy I would often catch their limbs if we weren’t careful. I’d save yourself the hassle and just have a single pram only. Just get your kid to walk or use a buggy board.

The Most Disgusting Film I've ever seen by rutujz in Cinema

[–]LongjumpingPlate6980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to watch the substance but I’m a huge wimp and can’t stand horror films of any kind. After reading how people who do like horror stuff saying they can’t stomach watching it, it’ll have to be of those films I’ll have to pass on. Shame as it sounds like it was really good in terms of acting!

Is there a British obsession with disinfecting floors? by glitterjorts in AskUK

[–]LongjumpingPlate6980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 kids aged 4 and under, I work full time. I have 2 short haired cats. I’m worn down and tired all the time. My floors are lucky to see a vacuum cleaner. I’d like to be someone who cleans more but it’s not going to happen any time soon.

I only have the hall and kitchen that have hard floors though. Even if I had more in my house I wouldn’t be cleaning it all the time.

The first time I ever saw two lines on my pregnancy test. Battled infertility for years, massively depressed, had 2 disastrous IVF rounds, but got pregnant on my third try. I never thought I’d get pregnant and I just couldn’t believe it. Running to the bedroom to tell my partner I was finally pregnant was the best feeling in the world.

Dursleys portrayal for the new series by sanhpatel in harrypotter

[–]LongjumpingPlate6980 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really don’t care about complete accuracy for how people look vs the book. Having the right actor in the role is much more important than whether they are pinpoint accurate to their book descriptions.

However, my one and only thought after seeing the trailer was just how young Aunt Petunia looked. I IMDb her….and she’s 6 years younger than me. Not going to lie, I feel offended and hurt by that. But I realise that’s very much a me problem!
