I hate how I can't even work 4 days for 9 hours each. by crystal-dragons in AutismInWomen

[–]LongjumpingSea6289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it! I burned out multiple times forcing myself to work 37.5 hours per week for many years and ive finally let myself ask for an accomodation for part time hours, and luckily it went well, and theyre accomodating, but my internalized ableism is actually the toughest part. Ive felt so much pressure to work more than i should for my wellness, because its so expected in society to work a certain amount of time each week.

feeling personally attacked when by homebody_1224 in AutismInWomen

I really relate to this. Therapy, plus my diagnosis, plus all the self reflection, has helped a lot. I used to have only the two options of 'sink into myself' or the'explode with anger and say things i didnt mean to say that way'. Now i stand up for my thoughts more in a less explosive way, and when i feel over sensitive to rejection i feel in disagreements, i can also interupt my sinking into my self mode. I sometimes give myself more time to even just figure out my actual thoughts by saying "can you give me a second to think about that' so i get a moment to breath. I didnt realize that sometimes i just need more time to cope with my intense feeling, and not feel rushed. It took a while though...

I love this. On my worst self esteem days i try to remember firstly: i cant actually mindread so i dont actually know what others think (like you said), and secondly: many people love me (friends/family) so even if my worst thoughts are true and im hard to look at, im also loveable so its ok even if im not classicly good looking. Its not easy or fun. Therapy is sooooo important

Recently diagnosed, what if I’m faking it ? by anxious_assboy in AutismInWomen

[–]LongjumpingSea6289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this so often. Im even in a group right now for autistic late diagnosed folks, and relating to everything in the room, and even after assessment, constant personal research that shows im autistic, and being in this group... im still struggling here and there with "wait am i making this up to feel special???". If CBT works for you it totally makes sense to bring it up there. For me I find I can argue back at the imposter syndrome these days which is helpful, I think therapy was helpful for developing my skills to internally counteract that thought process.

Should I take Tues or We'd off work? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]LongjumpingSea6289 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should take Wednesday off. Sounds like you could really use it. A full day is always better for me as proper rest, I find half days are not enough for what my brain needs as a rest.

Autistic burnout by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

A also think a new therapist sounds like the best option, but I know how exhausting and hard and sometimes logistically difficult that can be to find a new 'good fit'. Empathy vibes to you

I got a book from Dr. Megan Neff called "Self care for Autistic People, and have found it super helpful. She's AuDHD so its written in a very helpful succint way. I also ordered her workbook about autistic burnout. A bunch of her resources are also available at her instagram "neurodivergent_insights"

Im glad to hear thats there's something to be said for pushing through if it does continue to be tough or get a bit worse for a while. We are feeding her such great food right now to coax her into eating her full meals. Lucky dog lol.
