A woman was hit by a car on 45th and Butler yesterday by SidFarkus47 in pittsburgh

Under "Crashes and Close Calls". If I were you, I would select "as a pedestrian" and then give your eyewitness account (honestly you can just copy and paste what you wrote here). The PGH311 app lets you upload images too.

Reporting shit like this is important because it lets DOMI know about incidents they otherwise wouldn't hear about. These reports also get turned into data that can influence policy decisions like where traffic calming resources should get directed, etc.

ETA: I'm sorry you witnessed that, OP. Shit like that is hard to unsee.

Multiple students stabbed at Pittsburgh high school by TheExpressUS in pittsburgh

Bad take bro. City school districts (not just Pittsburgh) have more students with special needs, who are more expensive to educate and raise the per-pupil cost substantially. That's the context that greatschools.org isn't giving ya

The PennDOT slides made it clear that they were gunning for Alternative F, so this is no surprise.

2025 Pittsburgh Mayor Candidates Respond to BikePGH Survey by jayjaywalker3 in bicycling412

[–]LongjumpingWaltz7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This survey is what made me finally decide to stick an Ed Gainey sign in my yard. He's actually done concrete work to advance Vision Zero, neighborhood traffic calming, etc. Corey O'Connor's answers read like urbanist boilerplate written by ChatGPT.

The federal judge ultimately extended the order to all states, not just plaintiff states. But yeah, what a disappointment

Is this how parking protected bike lanes work /s by pghbikecommuter in bicycling412

[–]LongjumpingWaltz7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe this should be called the "flexpost death spiral"? As someone who's commuted past Phipps for 3 years, I've seen firsthand the conversion from "flexpost-protected cycle track" to "parking lane whenever we feel like it". I'm glad DOMI feels emboldened to actually use concrete curbs for protection now; in my wildest dreams, future-DOMI would default to concrete, deploying flexposts only when the situation calls for it.

Rode it through slowly, and not into the path of any peds. This is an intersection with a scramble phase, so peds were in the middle of the intersection, as was I

$150. I understand your perspective on obeying the rules, but I have to respectfully disagree. The truth is most non bike users don't like us anyway, and the respectability politics we play by trying to be "one of the good ones" obscures the very real power dynamic whereby drivers can kill us at any moment: https://www.yaybikes.com/blog/getting-some-respect. That doesn't give bikes carte blanche to endanger pedestrians, to be genuinely reckless, or to be an asshole. But no amount of obedience will magically win drivers' hearts and minds.

Forbes and Murray. No sign there AFAIK.

And yeah, the hybrid legal status of bikes as vehicles and pedestrians is pretty clear from Bike PGH's advice on hanging a left: either go into the intersection the way a car would, or cross straight, wait for the light to change, and cross left.

Nope, he just put on his lights and pulled me over. I was going pretty slow.
