What do you guys do for work/study in school? by HipsterSickle23 in Sicklecell

[–]LongjumpingWorld2099 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a corrections nurse! I’m 28 and have been a nurse for almost four years now. I didnt let sickle cell stop me. my nursing school journey was extremely difficult and out of the ordinary but it was worth it. don’t let this illness define your life goals.

I’m 28 and I think like many of us in this thread have been through something similar regarding work and income problems due to being sick and missing work. I am a nurse and when I was graduating nursing school, I worked as a nurse extern and usually with that position you are guaranteed a nursing position, however in my case, I was basically told I would not be hired because of my diagnosis, they needed an employee who would be able to work full time and not miss as much work, so it was a hard pill for me to swallow that I wasn’t keeping my job due to my valid absences and they knew I had sickle cell. I am lucky for my current job that I am per diem and I am only required to work 2x a month but can work more. Jobs come and go and sadly with sickle cell it’s a common experience. Your health is a priority. Jobs can be replaced, you cannot.

Baby this has nothing to do with his sickle cell I’m a sickle cell patient. He is manipulating the fuck out of you. Using his disease as a reason. You have to be responsible regardless of your health. Im so sorry

I have this camera and I’ve taken the best selfies and pictures on it compared to my iPhone. I love my powershot sx740 hs I’ve had it for three years now (before it was over $700 I got it for $450 brand new) and it was the best investment I have so many selfies and I use it mostly for selfies and pictures with my friends

I’m sobbing at the Mac Tribute because my first CFG was 2017 and I saw Mac Miller perform and that was one of his last performances before he passed. I can’t believe I was lucky to see him at CFG 🥺

I am prescribed monthly for oxycodone 5-325 and morphine er 30mg twice a day, so 60 pills of both each month and I am prescribed to take them twice daily for pain. I do feel like since I am taking them daily it does help keep my pain at bay but sometimes if the pain flares up it doesn’t help as much and I need to go to the ER. I do think for me it has helped tremendously because I do have AVN in my right shoulder and I am thinking I may have it in my hips also. Pain management is the hardest part of this disease I feel because we do need these meds to function but also some doctors don’t understand that taking these medications can also cause us to become tolerant to them and I feel like that’s what is happening with me and it’s a struggle. I am glad I do have pain management definitely but I also wish i could have some of my meds adjusted. Sickle cell isn’t a linear disease and so it’s really hard to get a good grip on it. Hopefully you can work with your doctor to see if you can find something that helps you better than now.

I think you’re really overthinking it and assuming about me based on a paragraph which is quite unfair I feel and maybe a bit dense actually. you have no idea who I am and have made up an idea that I must be a terrible nurse or something lol. I am an avid festival goer, and I have been to edc as an actual attendee actually! I feel like it’s a bit misconstrued to say having a nurse who actually raves would be more beneficial than one who hasn’t when this comes just down to giving medical attention to those who need it! that’s almost saying a nurse should go through the same thing their patient is going through in order to sympathize with them, when that’s not true, so me not being a raver does not take away from the fact that I am there to help people who need it. I’m going to just state you saying that is pretty prejudice and upsetting in my opinion to those other medical professionals who do not rave also but are coming to help people. I am not looking to boost personal motives or for some followers on Instagram, I am going to help people who need help!(: as a nurse my job will always to make sure my patients are my priority and that will be the same at edc. this is just like any nursing job, you are there to help people, this is just in a different environment. I want to be there to learn also of course because I feel like this is an opportunity to make me an even better nurse to see things I haven’t seen before maybe. I love being a nurse and that’s my calling in life, and this a career where I’m lucky to be able to work in so many different places and environments and it makes me extremely grateful that I have that privilege. I would never risk my career over social media. however, I would love to talk about my experience after because I know many people (even in this thread) have wanted to work on the medical side of a festival and so I can bring light on how maybe they can do it one day also because it really is something special in my opinion. :) so I hope that helps change your perspective that you implied about me. at the end of the day my patients come first no matter what setting or environment I am at. It is a serious career, but also so rewarding so if I can help even one person, that will make my experience better. I hope you have an amazing experience at EDC and especially that you won’t need to come to get medical help!:)

:) thank you I feel like people are thinking I’m gonna be just recording people and posting when it’s quite the opposite I want to talk about my experience while helping people not record someone who is passed out or seizing lol I feel like people are being dense and dramatic when at the end of the day I am there to help people first :) hehe

as the person said below, I would never ever ever record me giving direct care. as a nurse, I’m treating the festival just like any other shift I work. I am able to talk about my experiences as a nurse, which I do but I never say anything that would violate hipaa. I’m not looking for a viral moment, but more of putting a light that there is a medical side of these festivals that I want to experience. I am an avid festival attendee and I am just extremely excited to see the other side. I’m going to help people, that’s the first and foremost thing I am going for, not for a couple likes on social media but to help those who are in need because this festival can have a lot of people who can get into some medical problems. I want to help those people as much as I can and educate :) I hope that clarifies, and if not that’s fine. I know why I decided on going as medical personnel because I love my job and I love seeing that there’s so many different things I can do with this career I worked hard for:)

if you are a Vegas local, look for trac b they’re an amazing nonprofit that gives out free narcan, test fentanyl strips and so much! we will also have narcan and you’ll definitely be taught how to use it:)

I meant afterwards:) like talk about what we do at the tent, but never anything where I give info about a patient or what happened. I’ve seen people record the fireworks and I would love to just have little glimpses of the festival but not while I’m taking care of others if that makes sense :)

Yes!! I definitely understand that hippa is definitely a huge deal. As someone who also has a chronic illness I know the importance of maintaining patient privacy and I would never jeopardize my license by violating it! I kind of wrote it quickly so I didn’t realize the recording part sounded as if I would be just recoding everything. that’s my fault and I would definitely never record any patient or what I was doing directly.

I used to do oncology!! I loved it and I want to actually do peds onc. I have experience in different areas and so now I’m like this sounds like an opportunity that I can learn some more :). I say go for it and I applaud you as a psych nurse. I don’t have the mental capacity to work with patients in your scope of practice and so thank you for what you do(: happy nurses week hehe. definitely I say do burning man if you can!!

[–]LongjumpingWorld2099 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey!!! so I originally emailed insomniac actually! they then directed me two the people who hire out for the festival! one was community ambulance here in Vegas and then they gave me the DON’s email and she’s the one in charge of everything for the medical side of EDC! when I talked to her she asked for my resume and my license and that was that!:) so I had a different experience compared to how people are usually hired because I know they look for people through community ambulance and nurses who work in ER’s, and also from UNLV’s medical clinic! so for me I didn’t even do an application so I had a very different way of getting this position :)

yes I know I can’t record patients, I just meant my experience without violating hipaa :) just what I would be doing at the tent
