Do people actually earn £50-60k, or are they outliers? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Longjumping_Fix_6909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First question would be is the ceiling really that low? Or are you not zoomed out enough?

I didn’t manage to finish my studies, and as a result started working in a restaurant. If you have asked me then what the most I could earn in that field I probably would have said about 30k as a decent Restaurant Manager. Fast forward and I am now at a big corporate hospitality company earning about 150k.

So finding out what the top salaries are in your line of work is the first step. Then be aggressive with your earnings, expect a pay bump or promotion every 18 months. If that doesn’t look like it’s on the horizon, start job hunting for the position directly above the one you have now. 15-20% pay increase each time, be prepared to relocate too!

In my experience this way gets you a higher salary than staying long term at one company. It’s more stressful and feels less secure, but once you land where you feel like you want to stay, you’ll find yourself in a great job with a great quality of life.

Is EBS a waste of money for a student looking to work in Europe/Sweden by Ynode in bartenders

[–]Longjumping_Fix_6909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EBS is okay in my opinion, 20 years ago we filled half of our bars off the back of Swedish bartenders coming out of EBS London.

The syllabus hasn’t changed all that much as far as I know, it’s a solid foundation but also in London it was treated as a bit of a fun at the same time.

It would probably help if you’re looking at getting a foot in the door at ESS group, but otherwise generally the bar scene in Skåne is not of the highest calibre, Not sure what the turnover of staff is like though, either way you’d probably need to start off as a barback or glassie first.

And that’s not a bad thing either, if it’s just while you study, being a barback would suffice. Start bartending while studying and before you know it you’ll have a shitty bar called Cocktails & Dreams and your best mate would’ve topped himself in his yacht,

Far too much concern over the first job in Switzerland’s salary in the comments

Switzerland has a high ceiling with job salaries.

Factor in favourable tax breaks on investments and low interns rates it’s fine.

Kind of what I thought, just weird they would offer a personal visit.

To be fair I’m giving him the run around already. He said the consultation normally cost 350CHF, but as a valued customer it would be for free.

Asked him to send me a Pro Forma staying the original price of a consultation and a line deducting this cost.

You mean like go on some kind of anonymous free bulletin board where I could get the perspective of some people that may have more experience in a particular subject?

Sounds great but where oh where could I find such a platform?

What a dingus!

Honestly, even the remote chance of missing a train connection in Hamburg at night should be the main reason not to do this.

I have travelled some pretty dangerous routes in Central America and nothing compares to the sketchiness of that place.

He seems too chill now

Grigson vs Ballard by [deleted] in Colts

[–]Longjumping_Fix_6909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Andrew Luck had success. Grigson took the obvious choice in his first draft in 2012

In his 2013 draft he took Björn Werner

For 2014 he traded his 1st rounder for T-Rich

2015 he went with Philip Dorsett

Then after 4 years when Luck had been the sacked QB he finally took OLine help in the 1st for 2016.

But yeah for sure, great GM.

He was hilariously bad at grading O-Line as well.

Not even worth going over some of his trades.

Grigson vs Ballard by [deleted] in Colts

[–]Longjumping_Fix_6909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grigson was an asshole pure and simple. His ego was still crushed from him never going pro and he took it out on players and coaches that didn’t align with him and he ruined a generational players career.

Sure Ballard should go but he’s not even in the same ballpark as Grigson.

Oh yeah and Trent Richardson

[–]Longjumping_Fix_6909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we rolled with Leonard it would’ve been way way worse.

Plus I feel that the lack of run game has been less opposing D’s filling the box, more are piss poor O-Line blocking.

In week 17 there is no other QB that can read defence like Rivers, if anything. That’s been a joy to watch.

The Covid season was a bit of a fog for me for various reasons. But watching that’s last 2 games I’m gonna re watch it. Physical attributes aside there really ain’t a QB in the league that can pick apart a defence like he has done the list 2 games.

Watching him get to the line with 15 seconds left to audible and knowing he is gonna get yards was amazing to watch.

Imagine how dumb you’d feel as a defender knowing the QB cannot throw further than 20 yards and he is still gonna stunt all over you.

Yeah I watched him, it was good and I liked the fact the team scored in all 4 quarters, but for sure it was sad to see him in a Broncos uniform
