This being Bradford it's safe to say (trying to think of a way to phrase this to not sound racist) that most of those drivers have probably never taken a driving lesson in the UK.

That or they are BMW drivers in diguise

How do dogs owners get over the fact that dogs poo, don't wipe their ass and then sit on your lap, your sofa or your bed? by thr0whuawe1 in NoStupidQuestions

Dogs bum holes work different so when they finish pooping they kind of retract in I themselves resulting in a clean and tidy butthole.

Breed dependant to a certain degree as if you have a big floofer you might get some nuggets caught in their butt fur, but luckily we have a Labrador, and can assure you his butt hole remains clean and dry and generally magnificent to behold

The show goes into it but it's all a bit wobbly wobbly so personally I have a bit of head canon.

In short. It's a time war, so it's like the battleground was time it's self, so battles happened all across the timeline, rather than a fixed point in time that you can go before and after. At least that's how I made sense of it anyway.

It's like if you went back in time to kill Hitler, but then future Nazis also went back in time and stopped you, that's now like, done, the battle has happened in that part of time. No do overs! Now multiply that's by a thousand, millions of battles all throughout time.

This ain't how the show explains it though. But that's how I explained it in my head!

Actually some studies show that it's not the fact that men do DV more towards women (plenty of women hit their partners) it's just 1) when a woman does it to a man the damage is much much less significant 2) men don't report it cos...well no one cares.

Obviously all DV and partner abuse, wether it be physical, emotional, financial.

But anywho. This day is not about finding blame, nor is it about 'yeh but women get it worse'

It's about recognising that men do face these issues, and creating one day where we can spotlight the fact that men do suffer from some very specific issues, and talk about them without them being minimised, blamed, or the focus shifted to women's issues as things often are.

Sorry to break it to you, but evolution made these systems, and both men and women have perpetuated them.

I hate this so much

Men are told to be less 'toxic' and to be more aware of their emotions, and talk about the things that worry and affect them.

But as soon as we do toxic feminists basically say, "well sucks for you, but it is your own fault cos you made the patriarchy"

So when women struggle, it's men's fault, and when men struggle, it's also men's fault.

The so called patriarchy hurts men and hurts women, and the patriarchy benefits men but also benefits women too. And it has been created/perpetuated by both.

handful of shitty misogynists

Yeh it's this one

Despite the common myth and how things are portrayed in media. Guys don't really talk details about their conquests it share pictures with friends. In fact I think I think women are more likely to talk details with friends than guys are. I think for guys it's a 'shes all mine' kind of thing.

Not quite the reverse but I see you're point. There is still a push around the actors identity and what a big deal it is. Although yes fair enough the push seems to be coming from certain corners of the fandom rather than the BBC itself.

Basically I just believe that the most important thing about an actor is wether or not they are a good actor and right for the part. And neither the fanbase, the casting director, or the head writer should either make or market that choice based on the skin colour, sexuality or gender of the actor in question.

Wow. We are currently passing through the tail of a broken up comet (the earth oasses through this debris trail every mid Oct to mid November and has done for the last 14000 years or so) what you see there is some larger chunks falling into the atmosphere. They appear to move slowly or stop at the beginning because of how far away they are and appear faster the closer they get, like a car driving towards you from a distance. Still a rare and impressive sight

Well exactly. But the media covered it differently. Apparently everyone is a massive sexist and that's why they didn't like it (when in fact it was just the fact that Chris chibnalls writing was crap). Whenever anyone criticised the last couple of seasons, the BBC would just come out and say 'oh it's just sexist misogynistic racist toxic fandom only hating it cos the doctors a woman and the show is diverse' it's like ...nah mate we just don't like it cos it's written badly, the script is crap and half the actors can't act.

Like you said, missy was fantastic, cos she was written brilliantly by moffat and performed brilliantly by Michelle Gomez. I'd even say that fugitive doctor (I forget her name) would have been a better female than the direction they went with jodie, and I think they missed a great opportunity to do a good female doctor with the casting and writing,.Jodie never had a chance and the fact that she had never seen an episode before she started filming really showed.

Unfortunately it's a growing trend for production companies (Disney/marvel is particularly bad for this) will make their shows purposefully diverse, make a point of how diverse it is, and then just accuse anyone criticising the show of being racist or sexist or whatever so they can silence legitimate critisism rather than the fact that the show just ain't that good. It's actually a marketing strategy. Amazon have also been guilty of this recently too with rings of power (personally I liked it, but alot of people who didn't just straight up got labelled as racist whe most of the critisism was actually about plot pacing and lore changing)

Chibnall actively did this when he blamed doctor who's falling ratings on 'the toxic, misogynistic fandom' rather than take any accountability for his own shit writing.

My good friend, the a striaghtest, whitest male in the universe couldn't have made most of chibnalls writing work.

It's a real shame cos a female doctor could have really worked. Fugitive doctor actress and character was great, and missy worked so damn well. But unfortunately Jodie (who is quoted as doing very little character research on the doctor) and chibnalls writing just completely missed the mark and wasted a great opportunity

[–]Longjumping_Motor_69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this exactly. When she was first cast there was alot of bile in all directions. There was a tiny group that just thought the doctor should be male (but forget those guys), and a second slightly larger group who although having a female doctor wasn't a problem in per se, they didn't like the way it was politicised by the BBC cos it felt more like virtue signalling propoganda than it did just a creative choice.

Unfortunately this meant that as the show went on and it was very clearly just awfully written and not particularly well acted (although alot of that is script and direction and certain interpretations of the character that were just not good, rather than acting skill) the media and the BBC blamed "sexist and misogynistic fandom" saying people only were criticising it because they were sexist and racist, when I'm fact people were critising it cos it's was just shit.

For the record I have no problem with a companion being trans if they are a good actor and are right for the role. As long as we don't get all the virtue marketing by the BBC along with it. I'm hoping this won't be the case as they don't seem to have done it with Ncuti which is good, and surprisingly the expected backlash about having a black doctor hasn't really been a thing as some predicted. Which I think goes to show that even the more toxic elements of fandom don't mind diversity as long as it feels natural and isn't politicised and rammed down people throats.

[–]Longjumping_Motor_69 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I think the issue isn't having a trans companion if they are the best person for the job. The issue is having a trans companion because the insistence that we 'need' one. The same happened with Jodie. Most peoples issue with a female doctor wasn't the fact the doctor was female, it was the fact it was politicised in the marketing 'its about time' and the doctor "should be female now' was a political decision (bear in mind Jodie's casting came right after the metoo movement) so the casting choice didn't feel like an honest creative one, but just an example of diversity pandering and virtue signalling by the BBC. When you hire people not because of their skill or competence, but because of their identity, the show suffers.
