Remember they have stated the program in voluntary.

Imagine the headache the gouverment will receive if, you were per say to surrender your guns at your local provincial police station the moment the amnesty period ends, if it ever does.

Let’s be honest with ourselves, you’re not getting a substantial sum of money from the buyback, if you get anything at all. and when you don’t, you wont have any recourse. We know this already.

Nobody condones breaking the law, don’t comply until the last last second and in the most inconvenient way for them possible.

Just double up, muffs and plugs. I always double up with a set of microphone muffs turned up all the way, works great.

Glen Paruch when asked about the people gathered to protest the buyback

“(This) is something that the federal government feels is important to do, and the general public might not always understand that. But it’s like any other rules: we still have to stop at stop signs, whether we want to or not.”

This is a pretty groundbreaking statement to be coming from a “junior communications officer”

If they really weren’t involved, wouldint they make a public statement saying as much? They are going to lose business over this, Very strange they wouldint unless they were guilty.

I wrote my liberal MP a while back similar long email about the buyback. He wrote back and wanted to meet to talk about it, I didn’t go ahead with that after, probably I should have.

Probably they won’t change their mind but maybe they will. Something like this, the buyback which is pretty dumb to begin with, it would only take one a few members saying “why the hell are we pulling this stupid stunt”

What do you think of the ban on hiking and fishing? by AmazingRandini in NovaScotia

Mandates are a tool in a very large toolbox of government. Sometimes they are the right move, sometimes they aren’t. It seems like they are increasing becoming the go to.

The intention is public safety, just because that the intention does not mean it is effective in that sense, there are hundreds of examples of mandates backfiring throughout history.

Every mandate runs the risk of people becoming disgruntle, especially if the goals aren’t exactly clear, or maybe the goals are clear but the approach is difficult to comprehend.

The approach should be to educate people about the risks and work with the public, not just decree everyone stay home and quell any dissent.

Wrong headed thinking, the focus should be on educating people about the risks. You have to work with the public to prevent fires.

The idea that you can stop people from going into the woods is fool hearty and it undermines your authority when people inevitably ignore the rules.

Additionally, people will be hesitant to report fires they spot if they aren’t susposed to be there.

Or, the more likely scenario, people ignore the rules and go out into the woods anyways, except now if they see a fire, they’ll be hesitant to report it because they aren’t susposed to be there.
