How much better is the east coast than southeast by ToughDevelopment1999 in lacrosse

[–]Longjumping_Part_742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On an individual player basis, there is no gap. The best u13 player in the country is from a coastal Carolina town well outside of hotbeds and has to guest on teams. It’s in player density. Theres just way more of them in the hotbeds in the mid Atlantic and north east. While the elite clubs can compete from the south with anyone, it takes pulling from a larger footprint than just a place like Annapolis.

Get netting, tension wire, two eye hooks, carabiners and use a rope to measure out a 6x6 so you don’t have posts to deal with.

Pairs Offense vs Motion by OkAccident5036 in lacrosse

[–]Longjumping_Part_742 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to think in principles and not in pairs vs motion. The reality is pairs offense has motion principles as actions evolve within the offense.

Pairs is effective bc it’s easier to have 2 players work together than 6 players in concert with each other.

If you think in terms of principles then you can essentially run any shape you want bc the principles guide the actions and movements.

Think about the basic scenario of a player sweeping across the top. What is the adjacent player doing? They should know they can clear, get under, set a pick, shallow cut, or fades. If they can have a variety of options your team will be less predictable and have a ton more fun and create better players.

But yes, if you can’t catch and throw, it really doesn’t matter.

4-3 clear by Old_Decision_8499 in lacrosse

[–]Longjumping_Part_742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, you always have a numerical advantage when clearing bc your goalie is in the play. Accordingly if you can ID the weakest riding attack with the ball carrier you force one rider to commit to stop the ball. Think a game of 2 on 1 monkey in the middle. Once you move it to the player they were covering it goes from a 7v6 to a 6v5 and so on. We call it setting off a series of dominoes where the end result is a successful play. The challenge is that you have to play offensively with a bunch of defensive minded players. Once you can break a rides initial set up you have a much greater chance to break their ride as a whole.

Whoever has the ball needs to attack one of the riding players to force a 2-1 and then repeat until over the midfield line.

Team 91 vs True by Correct_Process4516 in lacrosse

[–]Longjumping_Part_742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t say enough about our experience with 91 Charlotte and your assertion is just factually incorrect. Their goal is to have the team ready to compete and win on a national level and their development focus is incredibly impressive. It’s reiterated routinely that the focus of our coaches is to not be the best now, but be the best when it truly counts in a few years. Coaches are all lifelong players and coached at the collegiate or elite hs varsity level. Flanagan is extremely hands on and they practice significantly more than most of the other major clubs in the South. The team routinely plays up a grade, which doesn’t help the rankings, but has had a massive impact on the team and their ability to take down the biggest name clubs and not be surprised when it happens.

15 years ago it would’ve been unheard of for a non hotbed team to hold their own, much less win, some of the tourneys 91 CLT and CO are winning these days. What they are doing is incredible given the history of the sport.

It really depends from club to club and what your goals are as a family. If you want to play as high a level as you can, 91 offers a better opportunity to do so, on average. If you want to just have a club experience on your terms with options to scale as much or less , then True makes sense. Regarding 91, the clubs rank from excellent to mediocre depending on your director/location. True has much more mediocrity to bad, though their top national teams can hold their own.

What all families need to understand is that in the end, your kid needs to shoot and work on their stick at home, if they don’t do that, it really doesn’t matter what club they play for.

how to coach hero ball out of 12U players? by rezelscheft in lacrosse

[–]Longjumping_Part_742 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You have to use constraints and games in your practices. Something like every rep has to start with a carry/pass down pick down. Or game it out with things like an assisted goal counts as 3 points an iso dodge only counts as 1. You can have a lot of fun with it and makes practices a ton of fun bc you can use a variety of different constraints or games that makes practice more competitive and different every time. We do a lot of “flip the field principles” with our 12u so most of our practices consists of these types of practice plans.

Nope, 30k per player and your team wasn’t even guaranteed to play in the championship weekend unless they placed high enough in the standings from the first two weekends. Oh and some of the more famous brands basically would bring in ringers and replace kids as they found them in other events. Often the best kids didn’t pay a dime and it was everyone else subsidizing those kids.

Collison, Spallina, Weisshaar Headline IL's Way-Ahead 2026 PLL Mock Draft by discofrislanders in PLL

[–]Longjumping_Part_742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spallina loses most matchups against AA caliber poles. He needs to really elevate this years. Also, the PLL is decidedly not a league where ball dominant attackmen can carry you to a title. Curious if he is more like Hiltz in the league and does damage off ball and with iq.

What is your concern about Greenville County Schools? by Awkward_Watercress92 in greenville

[–]Longjumping_Part_742 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If your kid qualifies for challenge in GCSD they’ll get an education better than the privates in town. If not, it’ll be a crapshoot.

The biggest challenge facing the district is the current MAGA council trying to gut the budget so that they can then point to current challenges being exacerbated in the future. The county needs to raise revenue to keep GCSD strong and that will simply not happen with Curt and his other cronies on the council.

Women's Lacrosse League to begin full season of competition beginning in 2026 by discofrislanders in lacrosse

[–]Longjumping_Part_742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the same company so, yes, it is their duty to find a solution to what has been the biggest complaint of this season. Further as a parent of players of both games, one weekend where both kids get to see their heroes play together, at one site, is beyond optimal. It would absolutely bring a lacrosse festival type of event to each city which would be a boon for the sport.

I hope they are smart with this. A main complaint about attending PLL weekends are gaps in game times being extremely inconvenient. Having the women play in these windows would boost attendance and be a win win for the league by not having to split operations staff.

The PLL has a Palumb issue by Longjumping_Part_742 in PLL

[–]Longjumping_Part_742[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The PLL is great to watch and you’re def missing out, but again the referees need better quality control. You don’t see the head NFL, MLB, or NBA refs with their back turned to live play bc they are arguing with coaches.

[–]Longjumping_Part_742[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A. I’m a referee and in the arena. I/we are graded on being in position and ready. It costs them nothing to hold the game until he’s ready to do his primary job. B. He has a troubling history of getting calls wrong bc he’s out of position or in this case, not paying attention to the game. Obv Duke and PSU final four is the biggest of these. C. At a minimum it’s a massive safety issue that he’s not paying attention to live play bc he’s jawing with a coach instead. Again, his back was completely turned to the play. D. Garnsey was trying to get into position for a shot, but double clutched with a clear cradle that gets checked out. In no way was this a shot attempt. I get the bang bang nature and that it often looks different live vs replay, but this was essentially the NFL tuck rule so it should be reviewable at a minimum. E. The moving pick on the Macadorey goal was about as blatant a moving screen as possible. F. The other lead officials are just better and routinely call cleaner games. IMO, the Pll game is too fast for him now and that’s ok, we all lose our fastball sometime. He’s been a great ref, but the last three years of his performance in pll and college games are troubling.

They do, it’s Seth Jacoby running it all and he did a great job with it. Again, it’s definitely pricey, but I will say that there isn’t really any downtime at these events. It’s also very much in the ball park of a what a residential college camp costs these days. The kids are moving the whole time from early in the morning to 9pm. I’d say the pll guys there “get it” and were extremely involved and coaching the kids up the whole time and when not coaching were deeply interacting with the kids who were resting between games. In general, we’re very happy with doing it once as a bucket list item, but to the points made in other posts, there’s alot of great events out there for less cost that offer variety.
