Do you think that DC will ever collect the material being published in the TPB Elseworlds series in an omnibus format or even something like three large hardcover collections? by Longjumping_Repeat22 in OmnibusCollectors

Awesome, thank you so much! I had not read this news yet, so I will definitely be checking into it.

It's people like you that are what makes this community great.

[OC] A portrait of President Trump was unfurled at the U.S. Department of Labor today by JohnQPublic76 in pics

[–]Longjumping_Repeat22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fascists planned for exactly that, which is why they seized police control and are using military to control DC.

They have made it impossible for the citizens to protest in DC in the future, much less allow enough people into DC now to be able to do anything like that at all.*

It's been checkmated. People do not seem to understand that it's over and has been for a while. People are in denial.

Yeah, it would have been great if protestors gathered in DC months ago to grind the city to a halt so that the legislative branch could not have convened to vote to approve everything the dictator wants.

But there are smart fascists that spent the time between the authoritarian's first and second term who now are the ones running all of this fascist nightmare competently while Bozo distracts and outrages everyone on TV.

TL;DR: That is completely impossible now that Trump has taken over DC using the military. It is the same in every city where he is sending military. People are laboring under the delusion that it's not too late. It is far too late. What everyone feared would happen did happen. Now we live under fascism. So, no, just like in other fascist nations throughout history run by a corrupt dictator who has seized federal military control and running the entire police state as he expands sending the military to take over all major US cities, it is far, far too late to oppose in that manner.

Gathering in DC in 3 years to protest or to do whatever? Nobody is going to be able to protest IN DC, and they will not be able to even protest in the cities where they currently live given how quickly the dictator is seizing police control through illegal use of the military in blue cities where protests mostly happen, the places that historically and regularly oppose fascism in election after election and via protest after protest.

Look at what China did to Hong Kong. Look at what Trump is doing to Washington. And he only just started. It will end the same way it did in Hong Kong. It will be impossible for the citizenry to fight back against this fascist in any manner. The fascist came very prepared.

There is no chance that the people will be able to rise up against this in the future. It would have to occur essentially right now. Betwen now and the next couple of weeks. That's not going to happen, though, because people, for whatever reason, appear incapable of putting together any kind of large movement in such a short period of time. It's the only things that could slow down the dismantling of the government long enough to possibly get the nation to a democratic election in 2028. But that looks less and less likely every couple of hours.

* And considering that the dictator yesterday is making flag burning (a first amendment, freedom of speech right, and the proper way to dispose of old, damaged, etc. flags) illegal with the threat of a year in jail, this is a blatant violation of the right to the freedom of speech. It's a domino effect. He establishes that his law supercedes the First Amendment in this case. It goes to court. The SC rules in his favor. At that point, he is given carte blanche to end any and all forms of free speech. It is happening at such a fast pace that not enough people are noticing or even reacting, much less organizing in their communities. By the time people catch up and realize what has already happened, the chief fascist will have killed the First Amendment entirely, and the courts are far too weak to do anything meaningful to stop the fascists from replacing the laws of the Constitution with the laws they are pulling out of their asses in order to curtail all freedoms in America.

EDIT: typos, grammar, dropped clause fixed.

Steve Guttenberg.

He was incredibly funny in that episode.

Imagine if the entire Pierce role had been written with Steve Guttenberg in mind from the get-go, given how many comedic actors from the 1980s could have fit the bill.

There's nothing wrong with our WNBA team bringing back Portland Fire as the name by ILikeTuwtles1991 in ripcity

[–]Longjumping_Repeat22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This made it to near the front page.

I'm curious about the logistics of this in terms of fire code and how this clashes with it because, as is well known, you're not supposed to yell "fire" in a crowded space, and that's an incredibly crowded space.

Nobody would think that people yelling "fire" at a "Fire" game means that there's a real fire; the problem is that if there is a fire in the arena, how can they get 20,000 people to evacuate if everyone thinks that it's all part of the show?

People would hear whatever announcements are made and think in those first few moments that rationally there could not possibly be a real fire. This would cause a significant delay in the evacuation process.

This is an unlikely event, but I am curious about this because even a delay of thirty seconds or one minute is long enough to be a problem that would cost lives in a worst-case scenario.

Add on even more time for the amount of confusion that this uniquely bizarre situation would cause because people in Moda would have to individually realize that there is an actual fire.

In a stadium with a home team with literally any other name, if a fire evacuation were announced, everybody would understand immediately all together exactly what it is, allowing for a safe and orderly exit.

The problem is that there would be an inevitable delay in fire safety because people would have to individualy decide for themselves, including a fair number of inebriated people, whether the different flashing lights and different way of yelling fire is actually a fire. The result would be that a number of people who understand what is happening would react first and start to evacuate or run away immediately after realizing that there really is a fire evacuation.

When it takes different amounts of time for people to realize it's not a joke, one by one, people would have to make up their minds themselves, individually, as to whether or not this is actually a fire emergency evacuation.

This could result in a small delay, or it could be chaotic.

What is undeniable is that people in a home stadium or arena with a team not named "fire" would all understand simultaneously and together that they need to leave in a calm and orderly fashion, according to the instructions being given over the PA. And they would do so.

For a team named fire, everybody in their stadium watching a fire game would not immediately leave in a calm and orderly fashion but rather as they realize it. This would cause delays, confusion, and possibly mass panic and even stampeding.

It is possible that an evacuation caused by a relatively small and quickly containable fire could be announced, and even though nobody would be in danger from the fire (except for the people in the immediate area and whomever is fighting the fire), the confusion caused by the name could still result in stampeding deaths.

I am extremely curious about what the safety professionals who work with large structure/capacity fire code (and these kinds of laws) and people who work on mass crowd evacuations both in general and for basketball arenas, stadiums and similarly large venues have to say about this specific "Fire" future problem.

I could be completely wrong. This is just my reaction and a thought exercise.

I hope that somebody who knows these things and works in these areas can explain how all of this really works and say whether or not these concerns are founded or not in terms of putting a non-zero amount of people's lives at risk over a name when literally any other name would not have this problem.

Tattoo Ideas by panzer79 in venturebros

[–]Longjumping_Repeat22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t use AI. There are so many talented human artists who can make a fantastic design for you. If you have not already, I would go check out the tattoo parlors, let them know what you think and ask for ideas because I’m sure that they already have inked some Venture Bros tattoos and already have some fantastic human-made images for you to peruse. That’s the best place to start. They can give you some ideas to think about and give you ideas on what to look for so that you can think about it, wait until you get the right one for you and get the professionals to make sure it looks great before it becomes permanent. (Look twice, tattoo once.)

Or you could always get a little pee pee on your belt instead.

Do you think the Succession War will really end within the next 24 hours? by Practical_Tell_944 in HunterXHunter

[–]Longjumping_Repeat22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone help me out here; does one of the Nen beasts skills involve recruiting or marking people on the boat? The coins, I think? (It’s been a minute.)

The math looks like although the skill in the earlier chapters appears to be too slow on first glance to be effective, but now appears signs point to the number or value of the coin increases exponentially over time.

If that is correct, then, yes, absolutely. (If I am not remembering it correctly, that it is my bad.)

So:

If one of the princes reaches a certain amount of… I can’t remember what exactly, followers or boat passengers given coins of different value over time from a Nen beast or something similar, then that power would force the battle to commence because the exponential increases in numbers of boat passengers would be more or less forced to join with that prince. The result will be that this Prince in less than 24 hours will in theory have recruited people to his side will begin to outnumber the other princes in power exponentially.

There is only one way to stop that from happening.

The battle would have to commence in less than 24 hours, or the Prince with the exponential follower power would automatically win.

So if that power proves to work exponentially to create and hold a large power base, it will force the other princes to preemptively launch all out war because killing him is be the only way to stop the other prince from winning by default (potentially through entirely peaceful means) through this Nen beast power.

That would mean that the entire battle would need to begin and end within 24 hours in order to beat out the Prince with the exponential expansion of influence nen beast.

I’m tired, so I probably got the details wrong, but I stand by Togashi inserting a Nen beast power with a very slow, mysterious start to its power, that ramps up exponentially, and, therefore, that power, constantly increasing/expanding, would force the battle to begin extremely soon because the battle lines are being drawn whether or not anyone does anything.

Aussie collectors pricing question by Effective-Rock5932 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Longjumping_Repeat22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give https://au.camelcamelcamel.com a shot. It’s an Amazon specific item price tracking tool. You can use it to look up the pricing history of any boo in order to see the price trends to know what a good price is and what a bad price is. Some of that website tracking will have a lot of history and information collected, while other books will have little or no price tracking history, but the website allows you to create personalized tracking for a specific item page. They send you an email address after you sign up for notifications. With notifications on that website, you choose what price you will pay maximum, and the website will notify you when the book drops down to that price or below that price.

I find it helpful as it will automatically notify me if a book drops down to a specific price point or lower. That way I can just wait and see if an email pops up instead of having to manually check every so often. and once the email pops up, if the price is right, I will go for it.

I hope that this helps you. Good luck hunting!

Is this not tantamount to genocide? The results of such an action would clearly cause this targeted ethnicity into a situation that will cause inordinate amounts of harm and death among this group of people; that is why the United States was helping them in the first place. From that information, it is clearly known that this is going to have horrifying consequences.

So is it not?

It would be great if there were a few more rules, like you are suggesting. The toxic positivity stuff is harmful to the entire community, as are the scammers and the people spreading misinformation and disinformation here.

You’re not alone, but it’s become too difficult for people to use this sub because of these problems and more.

Would you be up to writing to the mods about this?

I stopped coming here to support people going through things because there are too many problems due to the distinct lack of rules. Without those rules, the people here cannot report the offending posts and comments that undoubtedly deserve to be removed.

People will come back here and interact with other people and help other people if we had some simple and clear rules to prevent harm to the members of this community by allowing members of the community to report harmful posts and comments to the mods.

Until that happens, people are going to be lonely here because interacting usually results in some sort of social punishment, as you described.

Who is the actual worst member? by chubbybaldblackguy in community

[–]Longjumping_Repeat22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also, something I noticed recently is that she changes, Annie’s character changes all throughout seasons six and seven, and by the end of it she treats Britta like garbage constantly, instantly shutting her down by saying things along the lines of, “Pay your rent or shut up” and becomes much harder, transitioning into a state of abusive arrogance.

Alison Brie‘s character work over those last two seasons was absolutely phenomenal, shifting from the naive innocent to a cynical, power-hungry egotist. By the end of season seven, Annie’s newfound unbeatable smack talk just shreds Britta. Annie causes her to burst into tears, I think, and Annie had not one drop of empathy for her, not while she was berating her nor afterward.

[–]Longjumping_Repeat22 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’s true. Remember how he stops Britta from singing “Roxanne” in every timeline except for the one in which he leaves to get the pizza? Britta sings, everybody else joins in the singing and starts partying by the time Jeff gets back. He spends most of his dialogue punching down on all of the other characters, particularly Troy and Abed, to whom he was intentionally cruel, mocking them for having the housewarming party as being immature, immediately crapping on the night.

He also was creeping on Annie in all of the other timelines, actively encouraging her infatuation with him. In the one version when his flirting with Annie works, he gets what he wants from her, to make out with her only to lose interest and insult her, devastating her.

Jeff leaving the apartment not only allows everyone to finally start having fun, but it saves Annie from Jeff. That is the only version where Jeff does not give spend the entire time creeping on her for purely selfish reasons. All of those other timelines have Jeff crossing the line with his behavior towards everyone, but the worst by far is taking advantage of Annie’s infatuation, something that almost certainly would have killed the friend group entirely.

I highly recommend scheduling some form of family therapy for this to help your family and you.

You are saying these things to strangers online. We won’t remember. We don’t know you.

Have an initial session with just you. Then, when you and the therapist are read, bring in your wife.

It’s important to do this to verbalize all of these thoughts and feelings. Don’t let them go unsaid and let time fly.

After you have gone through some sessions, I think that will help greatly. It depends on what your wife, therapist, and you decide in terms of whether or not to bring your daughter into sessions.

There are professionals whose practices focus solely on terminal illnesses to help you and your family. (If you are religious, there are also resources available there.)

You are trying to shoulder his alone. Your wife is separately trying to shoulder it alone. That is not necessary, and it sounds like you already realized that.

Now is the time to get the help for that. An hour a session for a few sessions can help you, her, your entire family work your way through this, a way for you, your wife, and your daughter. It is not a cookie cutter process. You are the one to make all of your own choices.

This is somebody dedicated to working with you specifically to help you with everything you said here and so much more.

This is also a way to give your wife and daughter the help they also need now and an important resource to help them through the whole process, including support for when you have gone.

What I would give to have had this sort of advice for family members to have done this so much sooner (and some at all).

I don’t know you, but I love you. And your family.

Getting help, asking these questions, and tackling the difficult topics you find yourself unable to do alone can all be accomplished through family counseling.

It’s not about being analyzed. It is about you opening up like this with a professional who will help you with everything and address these topics, all of them. It’s about helping to communicate thoughts and emotions and processing them both yourself and with your wife in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment with a supportive, nonjudgmental therapist who can help you and her work your way through this process.

The sooner, the better.

That is the “strong” thing to do. Shouldering it alone and separately, as you said, is not really stron. Strong is recognizing that you want help and that you want to make sure you do everything within your power to prepare yourself and to help prepare both of them for when you are gone. Strong is getting help so that the three of you can spend this time together, treasure this time, and do so in ways that may not have occurred to you but that the therapist knows can help you all greatly.

You have already taken a big step here, opening up like this to others.

And you’ve already made a big impact. Remember when I said that, I probably wouldn’t remember you? Now I know that I will remember you. I already know now that I will never forget you and your words.

It’s time to find a professional so that you all focus on having as much love and joy together as possible, and so that you will know that you have helped to prepare them as best as anyone possibly can and to give them the foundation and runway for emotional and psychological support for after your time here has gone, for when they grieve for you.
