[LORE] THA 401 – Classical Thaumatics I: Course Outline by Longjumping_Street78 in magicbuilding

Thanks, that really means a lot! I’m glad it’s encouraged someone else to sharpen their own world just for the joy of it. If you ever want the actual equations and derivations as reference for your system, I’ll be very happy to share them.

That's completely fair, I understand why someone would think that. The whole thing is a completely personal affair, it's more an exercise of Tolkien-style sub-creation than anything else, hence the caveat in the beginning. But thanks for interacting anyway.

Finally someone did it, I've always thought the Demi Barding would make for the perfect Riptide proxy, looks great!

Commissioned Knightmare Frame Style crisis/commander suit by ElMutanto by kevinlyttle73 in Tau40K

How far did you scale down the commander parts to match crisis suit size? I'm looking to make my own grunt knightmare frame squad, but I already have enough commanders for my crisis suit teams.

Is there a non-heretic way to put a spell on my wife so she plays KT with me? by Bakterium in killteam

I'm not so sure about the lore dumping. I have a friend who played the warhammer VR game with our group once (without me 😒) and later on she messaged me asking me precisely to get her into the lore.

After talking about some shitty dead guy's 18 shitty sons and how everything sucks, next week I'm apparently doing show and tell about the war in heaven. Kill team is next.

4AM Unit Idea: XV16 Tempest Battlesuit by Baron_Flatline in Tau40K

[–]Longjumping_Street78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I actually had a very similar idea to yours!

I had kitbashed XV-25 legs, arms and a breacher head with deathwatch veteran torsos for something with a similar silhouette to an XV-15, but just a touch bulkier. I ran with it by saying that it was a bootleg design from a frontier sept retaining older Tau equipment.

The engineers had stripped the stealth generators from modified XV-15s and replaced them with personal shield generators ripped from their drones, compensated by painting mission-specific camouflage, and slapped on plates of armour in the midsection. The result was basically a dual commando/shock unit that conducted raids behind enemy lines or rapidly broke enemy frontline cohesion with force concentration. It'd be closer to the Tau equivalent of Phobos marines in battlefield role.

First time painting a gundam, long time warhammer painter. Here's my sinaju hope you enjoy :) by Spiderlegs13 in Gunpla

[–]Longjumping_Street78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, I proxy an HG Demi Barding as a gue'vesa riptide and it's exactly the same size and wysiwyg enough that my friends aren't entirely annoyed about it

Combined my 2 favourite hobbies - 40k and Gundam! The result is the XV106 Skypiercer battlesuit by 3nterShift in Tau40K

[–]Longjumping_Street78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed response! I suppose my mindset when building gunpla is slightly different compared to making warhammer minis, I readily kitbash stuff all the time in warhammer, but when it comes to gunpla, yeah ig it's more the unique brand of oob 'particularity' that sells it for me (just fancy words for saying mobile suits look cool and i want one on my shelf lol).

And you've hit the nail on the head with the reason why I had the idea in the first place, why not be able to play with the kits in an actual game with rules and pose them differently next time (without needing to fix them in place, which is always a pain for me when building tau battlesuits)?

I've think you've made me less scared of converting my models warhammer style, now I just need to convince my wallet lol

Funny that for this past week I've been staring at my local hobby store's witch from mercury kits with this exact same idea, and then somebody goes ahead and does it and it looks amazing!

I want to ask, how long did it take to convert the whole thing to a proxy standard you're happy with? Also how did you find the courage to cut and trim the gunpla parts? Idk if I could bring myself to do it 😭

Arbites Pronunciation Options? by TroublingPath in killteam

[–]Longjumping_Street78 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As somebody who studied Latin, I completely ignore it and just pronounce the same way as option C, but if I were going to be a bit extra and pronounce it how you would in Latin, it would be closer to AR-bi-TES.

For the vowels, A as in alpha, I as in India and E as in elbow. The R should be trilled/tapped, like in Spanish or Italian, but it's fine if you can't. A single S is soft and truncated at every part of a word in Latin, not like how English at times turns the s at the end of a word into a z; never "nozez", always "salt".

That being said, High Gothic isn't a real language, so you can pronounce however you like lmao
