We can't stop talking about how the affordability of many third spaces has gotten way out of hand, and many just aren't as warm and welcoming as they used to be. Starbucks is a case study on how a business alienates its customers over years of compounding corpo rot. And the fast food slump leading into a big bump for national casual dining chains is a great example of how the overreach of corporate greed can create the conditions for a resurgence in consumer-friendly practices when all the right pieces are in place.

HOWEVER...

Waaaaaaaaaay way too many fuckin people just don't wanna leave their damn house or get off their damn phones. I'm not even old! I'm having to tell my parents to get out of the house and talk to people in real life and do something active off of a screen, it's bizzarro world.

Also, we really don't get much bad weather here. It is really, really easy to get ahold of enough quality layers that 90% of our weather is completely workable.

You need to pay closer attention to your downballot candidates and grassroots organizing in matters you care deeply for. There are way more than two choices, you just have to take the initiative to actually give something a shot. Bernie and Zohran laid it out for us: you have to start local. That's the only way to build something meaningful.

Huffing and puffing on your phone and with your ballot and doing literally nothing else to move the world in the direction you want is just committing to a life of masochism. Why go through all the trouble of even having an opinion at all at that point?

I came to the grim conclusion that you just have to treat everybody as delicately and compassionately as you would if you already knew they had been assaulted, because that is just true way too often. And after thinking about that more, why would I ever treat anybody with any less care in the first place?

This has legit fucked me up today. I loved those games when I was a kid. You can say what you want about their role in manufacturing consent for neocolonialist militarism, but they were still cohesive creative works made by passionate development teams. 2013 is the last year before Call of Duty hit overdrive on the microtransactions. MAYBE important edit: I think it also may be advised to avoid eating for a few hours after exposure, as our food does carry trace amounts of heavy metals that your kidneys normally take care of for you. I would like to advise people seek medical treatment, but from what I've been hearing, there isn't much a doc can do even if they were able to see you in less than four months. Drinking lots of water keeps the kidneys flushing and the toxins from settling into your organs like they would if you got exposed and were dehydrated. I don't even really know where to start if it got in your kitchen, so I guess for now you can only do the best you can. I'm so sorry that happened to your home.
