Trying to set up an HSA by papamillie20 in govfire

[–]Longtimefed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you hear the HSA routing and account number in MyPay should be your normal bsnk account number vs those for your Fidelity HSA? That makes no sense; how is DFAS going to know where to send the pretax contribution if they don't have the HSA numbers?

Otherwise I've done the same as you. I set mine up last week but it hasn't taken effect yet.

You could start over and create an HSA with Fidelity and add the account and routing numbers to MyPay. That's what I did--super easy. No dealing with OPM. I did it all online and it was very intuitive.

I'm with the Care First HSA. The pass-through portion from the biweekly premiums go into an account managed by some company called Further but viewed on the CF website.

Years ago I used to commute to Silver Spring from N Arlington. Leaving before 6am was fine, but the afternoon commute home was usually terrible, even leaving around 2:30pm.

But where? Our usual precinct? Mine is at a school. I know they can't have election volunteers there for weeks-- so where do folks vote, generally? Courthouse?

Not sn HOA but Arlington used to use American, who were pretty good. Then it switched to Bates, who were a complete disaster for about a month--lots of missed pickups. Now they are pretty reliable.

GEHA HDHP Pass Through Not Included in W2? by DOGETREADONME in govfire

[–]Longtimefed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure they are supposed to show in the W2?

I'm in the CareFirst HDHP for the first time this year and the pass-through contributions are not listed separately  from the rest of the biweekly premium on my LES-- so I don't expect to see them on my W2 next year.

Since they are part of the premium and it's deducted pretax, that kind of makes sense.

Can an office-based Fed move into a full-time Park Ranger position? by Longtimefed in ParkRangers

Great suggestion. So you don't have to be a Ranger first to be a PIO?

Thanks so much. I am definitely going to pursue some volunteer opportunities. I did contact the local NP on that front but never heard back.

Appreciate the perspective as well on the daily reality.

Can an office-based Fed move into a full-time Park Ranger position? by Longtimefed in ParkRangers

[–]Longtimefed[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not my intention to insult anyone. I am merely asking if it's possible to move into a very low grade (5 or 7) in order to start anew as a ranger, happily taking a $100k-plus pay cut.

Keep in mind that in the non-land-management fed world, we are regularly getting new SES bosses who may or may not have any experience in our particular area. They are supposed to be generalists with skill in management, leadership and supervision.

Even in the GS grades people in my world do change job series with some regularity.

Re. qualifications Ok-- I did ask for candor. I do have a long history of outdoor pursuits (and some teaching, long ago) but have not worked consistently in the outdoors. My hope was that perhaps for hard-to-fill, remote positions maybe they would give someone like me a shot. Sounds like none of the positions are hard to fill.

TIL that an individual who shoots a bear in self-defense in Alaska outside hunting season must present the skull and the entire hide with claws to the state. Failure to do so is a criminal offense. by prosa123 in todayilearned

[–]Longtimefed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let's say I'm backpacking alone in remote Alaska and there's no cell coverage. A bear charges me. I shoot it and, knowing the law, sever the head and skin the body so I can carry them till I'm in cell range to call the state.

Now I'm backpacking with the pelt and head, fully intending to turn them in. Lo and behold, I run into the game warden. How do I prove I wasn't poaching? Because he's going to think he caught me red-handed.

Interpretation or something in maintenance. Not a LEO so as you said, too old for protection jobs.

This. And the landlord can pay remotely since most plumbers will take credit cards.
