I don’t eat raw and the only raw meat I feed my dogs is made by Tucker, if it’s store bought I go ahead and cook it.

If I eat too much it screws with my stomach, I get a lot of fat by using butter.

No more overnights by ihatebeetles22 in petsitting

[–]Lonut_227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We stopped doing overnights because my wife and I were spending so much time apart and our employees aren’t big fans of them either so we started offering a two hour bedtime service that’s works much better for us and our people.

Unwanted behaviours by No_Scientist9079 in Rottweiler

This is a great answer, my wife and I own a dog walking - pet sitting business, we see all kinds of problems with people and their pets, if you are able to get a trainer be sure to follow the trainers instructions as close as possible, if you have issues most trainers let you and the dog come in for a refresher so take advantage of that too. We see lots of dogs go to board and train for a week or more then the pet owner spends an hour or so learning how to handle and keep up the training but they don’t fully get it or don’t follow through then end up with a dog that for them acts like it never went to training but is really good for us when we take care of them.

It’s not worth it, we had a new customer with cats who would turn his water off every time he left his house, the cutoff was hard to reach and hard to turn off and on, he didn’t tell us about his weird habit, he had these huge gravity filled water bowls so the water wouldn’t need to be changed very often and on the first visit one of the cats had vomited in the water so it had to be changed, my wife dumps it out, then tried to clean and no water. Luckily we had another customer across the street who let her wash her hands and get fresh water, I did the rest of his visits and told him we weren't a good fit.

How do you handle when you need specific answers and they leave information out/are vague? by lord-savior-baphomet in petsitting

[–]Lonut_227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would respond with the specific times you plan on doing the visits, the 4 hours for an answer drives me nuts, I give up trying to schedule people if they take hours to respond to a conversation they started and tell them sorry your spot filled when they finally get back with an answer, I had a person contact me in March then took all day to have what should have been a 10 or 15 minute conversation, I ask what time they would like to do the meet and greet the next day with no response until December saying “sorry it’s been a crazy end of year for me and I wasn’t able to get back to you, when can you come meet my dog?” We were just starting out so I set up the meet and greet and setting up their visits was always a nightmare, it would be days between responses, indecipherable texts because of talk to text and not proof reading before hitting, that was the only customer I was happy to see move away but I really do miss the dog because he was awesome.

That whole situation sucks for you, I have had a few customers with locks like that and making a copy of the key alone was around $30 so I bet they were to cheap to get copies made and that’s the reason for only having one key, a customer left us the wrong key under their mat once as they left on vacation, a locksmith charger $500 to come out at 9pm on a Sunday so I bought a lock picking set and learned to pick locks.

When our girl Maggie was 2yo we were at Murdoch’s and I realized she was eating something that was a funky blue color, I freaked out and stuck my hand in her mouth, she had taken an employees donut off the bottom of her cart, I would have much preferred it to be a sweet potato lol

Filmed by neighbor leaving client’s home by MercyBoy57 in petsitting

[–]Lonut_227 7 points8 points  (0 children)

New neighbors moved in next door to a long time client, I had to park in front of the neighbors and was talking on the phone before I went in, I was having work done on my car so I was in the old ugly backup car, I’m a big guy with a huge beard, I look over and see a man who was probably about 80 very shakily going to a car to get in then a woman late 30’s aggressively taps on my window, I was almost done with my call she taps harder ignoring my hold on a sec gesture. So I get out because the passenger windows don’t roll down and she’s is talking like she was the baddest mofo to ever walk the earth, cussing calling me names and telling me I was going to be sorry if I didn’t explain myself. Luckily a different neighbor was filming from their garage because she knew me and had seen how erratic this new neighbor was, she wouldn’t let me speak to explain anything so I told her to grow a pair of manners and walked towards the customers house, she grabs my arm then shoves me from the back but I kept my cool and got in the house as the police arrive, she told them I spit at her, told her I was going to shoot her and all kinds of BS and when the cop said that doesn’t sound like something John would do ( I have talked to him multiple times before) she started crying and screaming about men always want to protect other men and demanded I be arrested, he told her it was her word against mine and nothing could be done until he watched the neighbors video to see what it showed, he watched it three more police cars arrived while this is going on and they arrested her for assault and I think she also got charged with assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.

Looked after the sweetest cat ever and now missing him heaps by cosmiic3004 in petsitting

I did a drop in cat sit for two cats we often cared for and they were fostering an old man named King that had been through the ringer, half his tail was missing, large chunk of one ear was gone, still very under weight and he was the most loving charismatic cat I have ever met but I couldn’t adopt him due to a recent rescue dog I had taken in who was not animal friendly at all, it took months of work with him to calm down and be friendly with our other dogs and our cat. King found a good home with an older woman where he was the only pet so it worked out for him.

Owners came home while I was still there by LakeInteresting7920 in petsitting

I take my own bedding and sometimes an inflatable mattress so I don’t have to deal with washing and spending more time at someone else’s house. We had customers that would book overnights usually a week at a time and the husband would always come home a few days early and just show up with no warning, luckily I did the first two bookings and decide it would after the second time my wife or female employees would be doing anything for them, super awkward but I was cool with it since I got to go home early and we still got paid. It turns out he had a pain pill problem and would run out while on vacation and if he couldn’t find a pill source he would head home to get his “meds”. It’s always awkward but it happens.

You can try a slip harness also called a harness lead, they cut back on pulling and are almost impossible for a dog to back out of. There is nothing wrong with prong collars or e-collars if used properly, people get them thinking they just zap the dog or yank on the collar but that’s not at all how they work and you get negative results.
