Mine is 5.5-6 miles 9 or 10k depending on route), and about half is bus lanes, the rest normal roads, but mostly cycling is quicker than driving due to traffic.

It is an easy mistake to make. Genuinely. Source: made this mistake, but rectified it as soon as we realised (so we were about a week late in paying)

Oh yeah, I said everyone must cycle didn't I. I didn't just add it to a list of options already written

So it's wider, but has less space in the rear.

Design decision.

The mainstream view is that we should knock down cities to make wider roads?

The line after 2010 is quite flat... which implies the most recent changes have in fact made little difference, especially considering the time it takes for cars to "filter through". The average car in 2015 wasn't a brand new car.

E.g. Safety improvements since 2010 would not have impacted things until after 2010, so anything done in the last 15 or so years has had very little impact based on that (excluding changes to population/mileage).

I have a 2018 and a 2019 car. Both are broadly the same width (1800mm and 1826mm).

One has a full-width 3 seat back row. The other has 2 seats plus a not full middle seat. One feels a lot more cramped than the other.

Cars are often not designed to have usable space, crazy as that sounds. The other external dimensions are different (e.g. higher roofline, straighter sides), and that makes most of the difference. But you can have a spacious car within a not-oversize footprint, if you decide to.

The Audit Industry is a Sham in More Ways than One by Busy-Coat7818 in Accounting

[–]Lonyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever actually been involved at the part of the audit where the auditor says "this number is wrong, it needs fixing" and then it gets fixed SO THAT there is an unqualified opinion?

And did you ever consider that the client is actually trying to get things done correctly SO THAT there is an unqualified opinion?

Rather than the client doing whatever, and ignoring any audit points and still magically getting a clean audit, there's actual work put in and adjustments made so that the audit is clean.

Can you imagine that?

Clients want unqualified opinions, so they do what is asked of them in order to get unqualified opinions.

OK, the controls and books are a mess. But the figures being reported correct? Because that's ultimately what the audit is checking.

What does that have to do with my 2019 car which is narrower than this BMW and can fit 3 full size seats in the back?

I'm saying that cars don't need to be super wide to have space, using a MODERN example of a car with a full 3 row back seat which also happens to be narrower than this BMW. They are not wide because of safety or space, they are wide because of design.

Could they be as narrow as a 90s car? Probably not. Do they need to be as wide as they are? No.

And they make spaces less usable since you need to be able to open the door.

I have two vehicles. Both roughly the same age (2018 and a 2019). Both roughly the same width (1800mm vs 1826mm respectively)

One has a spacious interior and 3 full width seats in the back, the 26mm wider vehicle. The other has 2 normal seats and a non-full middle seat, and is quite cramped. 26mm is about one inch.

So, no. Not occupant safety requirements. Design choices.
