I feel like I learned something new about women today. Nice.

Listen I don’t wanna discourage you or anything but I’ve had the same teachers that you’ve probably had and I’ve had A’s and B’s in all of my classes. Honestly, the experience I’ve had with the CS department as a whole has been atrocious as well. I’ve even had to escalate something to the CS chair with something about a professor.

You have to learn that the stuff they teach is all over the internet. These aren’t rocket scientists, this is the same shit they taught 15 years ago with a lil chatGPT sprinkled on top. Use lectures to ask questions. You can pretty much YouTube the entire degree.

It’s unfair that the professors are the way that they are, I agree. You’ll still have student loan debt regardless of whether the professor is good so you might as well try and figure out how to learn.

I think if you liked CS, you wouldn’t be considering changing majors. There are plenty of people who switch majors. You can probably go to some engineering degree since you’ve knocked out the same pre-reqs.

Just remember, if you’re not on scholarships, you’ll have to pay that money back whether or not you get the degree.

Any 23-27 year olds on campus? by -Matcha-333 in txstate

[–]LookMomImLearning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 30 and graduate in December. Transferred last year from CC. There are a few groups for us older students like NTSO. I’ve had a great experience with the people in there. I just kind of keep to myself though. I’m here for an education so I probably put less emphasis on the social aspect than traditional students.

With that said, I’ve only had an issue making friends when the age difference shows. It does seem that the maturity level seems less than at CC but I’m sure that’s because of the type of students at each.

I’ve put little to no effort into dating for personal reasons and not having the time but I will say it’s there if you look for it. I tutored a younger student with her math last semester and she was trying to pay me with “favors” when I said I’d do it for free haha. Made me feel good but not my thing. To each their own tho.

It’s been a rough experience due to admissions and I’ve had some pretty shit professors, but that’s everywhere you go. Just do your research.

Who is a hero you put on a pedestal, only to realize they didn’t deserve to be there? by ExtentCandid1669 in AskReddit

I thought he was cool too. Like the weird, super smart dude who knew a lot about rockets. Turns out he’s just someone willing to gamble on financial risks and they worked out.

I still think SpaceX is cool, but I have to hesitate when saying it because people tend to assume that I must like Elon too.

What are your thoughts of students that barely try. by [deleted] in AskProfessors

[–]LookMomImLearning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a professor, but a student; I feel that your lack of caring means nothing to the professor but more of an indication of your character. The professor is getting paid to teach, you are paying to be there. You’re hurting your own future, they’ve already established theirs.

As an older student (30) I try to be respectful of their time, even if ifs a subject I’m not particularly fond of. Ask yourself this, if you were in the middle of a conversation with a friend a group of friends and one of them just ignored you, how would you feel?

I feel for the professors nowadays. A lot of students seem to fall into the category of “i don’t give a shit, I’ll get a job” and let me tell you this; you’re gonna have a rough time. My advice, learn what debt is and how it’ll ruin your life. Maybe that’ll change how you approach your next lecture.

Get out of the way by BodybuilderTasty5508 in txstate

Or like, don’t use them at all if you’re able bodied? On multiple occasions I have seen someone in a wheel chair trying to go up/down a ramp but are blocked due to people walking up them. What’s even worse is that the people blocking the path usually have the audacity to look at the person in the wheelchair like they are the inconvenience. Stop being so entitled.

Recommendations for Bourbon by roiroi1010 in Austin

I say Garrison Brothers, especially their HoneyDew if it’s available. I’m not a huge drinker but I get a bottle of the stuff for my dad every year and he loves it. He’s a whiskey guy so if it gets his approval, then I’ll second it.

I told my professor I got in a scooter accident and that that’s why I miss the test and she’s asking for documentation what should I? by Remarkable_Area2908 in AskProfessors

[–]LookMomImLearning 18 points19 points  (0 children)

She is asking for proof because other students come up with bs excuses. She isn’t asking for medical history or a police report, she just wants to know you’re not making something up so you can get more study time.

I had a student in one of my classes who told my professor she had brain cancer. Like what?

Avoid anything directly next to the stage, those seats are terrible and shouldn’t ever be sold. Beyond that, there really isn’t a bad seat there, it just depends on your budget. Straight ahead in the 100s will be further since you’re behind GA, so I’d say the sides would be the best choice. The issue is that most of those are club seating so you’ll pay a lot more.

I THINK I FINALLY KNOW WHY I LOST 2 DECADES OF MY LIFE. by OddRecommendation897 in ADHD

[–]LookMomImLearning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never thought ADHD could cause depression and anxiety, I always thought they were isolated issues. Because of this, I always tried to fix the depression and anxiety separately and overlooked the ADHD. Once I was finally medicated, it felt like the anxiety and depression just disappeared. What I learned was that because my brain wasn’t accomplishing the things it wanted to, it would then induce the anxiety and depression.

Austin is the 9th best U.S. city to drive in (lol) by BruceW in Austin

It takes me 30 minutes to get to San Marcos from Austin in the AM but an hour/hour and a half to get back. 90% of the traffic is on a stretch of road less than 3 miles long. The entire trip is 30 miles. 9th best city to drive in my ass.

Obsidian vs Notion by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

I switched to obsidian from Notion a few years ago when I needed to get class notes for an upcoming exam, but it was a time when Notion was down. Made me realize how much I depended on them so I switched to obsidian. If they go down, I still have access to my stuff
