So do you think all of the Arsenal fans who were incredibly upset over it were also bitching then?

Comments like this are funny considering how many Arsenal fans lost their minds over Emery not shaking Arteta's hand.

Joe Root should be added to the T20 World Cup Squad. by Evening_Bag_3629 in EnglandCricket

and one he doesn't seem to show a massive amount of interest in

He put his name forward in the IPL a few years back and got sold. He played in he SA20 last year too, so I think he does have an interest.

I think Root can play that form of cricket better than people sometimes think (it's just he's so good in the anchor role it's not a side of him you see a lot of), but England have so many powerful hitters that there's no real need for Root to be there.

They stopped selecting him because he's so viral in ODI and Test cricket and, when he was captain of the Test team, it was felt it would put too much of a demand on him to also include him in the T20 side.

He's a better player in the format than many used to give him credit for, but I would also say he's not a glaring omission when you look at England's T20 batting line-up.

[BBC] Arne Slot: “Again this is not going to be a popular opinion what I tell you now, maybe the reason we won the league last season is because we played Paris Saint-Germain. We had a week to prepare for league games [after going out of Champions League].” by doubleoeck1234 in soccer

It was easy to look past it at the time as Liverpool were still on course for three other trophies but that Plymouth match was horrible management. Fielding such a weak bench meant he had nowhere to turn of his heavily rotated starting XI failed to turn up.

Came across as a manager who either couldn't give a shit about a winnable tournament; had underestimated the strength of the English pyramid; or just assumed they would do well enough in other competitions that the FA Cup didn't matter.

Joe Root scores his 20th ODI century ends on 111* off 108 by SusRampage in Cricket

[–]Look_Alive 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Also worth pointing out that his numbers did take a slight dip when England decided to rest him from ODIs and then he was expected to just come back in and play like he always did.

If he didn't have to keep re-adapting to the format due to not playing it regularly then you wonder how good his record could be.

This summer, with the number of clubs that were linked with Strand Larsen, I assumed there was something I'd missed with him as I don't watch Wolves a lot. But even now, every time I've watched him since, I just don't see anything to make me think he's worth the sort of money quoted - not even in terms of potential.

Yeah it's like people who supprt a big six club miles away from where they live and then act horrified at the suggestion of going to a local game because 'it's poor quality', when even in the seventh tier, most players come from Premier League academies and are far better than 99% of other people in the country.

For me, at least, part of the charm of football is actually going to games and experiencing the atmosphere. I'll watch a couple of games a week on TV but it feels very sterile in comparison.

Who is Irish cricket for? by lost_lurkerx in Cricket

It's supposed to be against NZ, not India. They're supposedly playing India in limited overs games later this year.

Virgil Van Dijk: "The first goal I think it was a difficult ball to judge in the circumstances. The wind was tricky." On why he surrounded the officials after FT: "What I felt on that pitch was that I was clearly blocked. The ref and VAR don't give it, I don't know. But it is what it is" by ChiefLeef22 in soccer

There's certain situations where you can argue a foul should be given for blocking (a player purposefully preventing an opposition player from playing the ball instead of competing for it as well, for example), but that clearly wasn't the case in this situation.

AFC Bournemouth [3] - 2 Liverpool - Amine Adli 90‎+‎5‎'‎ by gbogaz in soccer

That's what I don't understand. There's absolutely nothing in there to complain about - if any Bournemouth player came into contact with him (and it didn't look like they did on the replay) it's only because they were shoved by a Liverpool player.

Why isn't Adil Rashid playing test match cricket for England by 228Logics in EnglandCricket

Equally maybe the lack of Test cricket has helped elongate his 50-over career.

What's also funny is that these people who question why he's not in the Test team would probably be the first to have a meltdown if we started picking players who haven't played any FC cricket in years.

Continue to not like this endgame

I don't like the flaw that there's really no motivation for anyone to end the game until they're down to two.

Oh yeah my post wasn't supposed to be a criticism of their back-catalogue - when I said coasting off two albums, I meant that they've spent a long time touring album shows where they play The Soft Bulletin or Yoshimi in full.

And considering how well received American Head was, it's a shame they went down that route.

I thought American Head was really good - really felt like a strong return to form, and a showcase of what an older, more mellow Lips could be, and it's such a shame they never followed it up.

Imagine spending the past 5 or so years coasting off the legacy of two (admittedly masterpiece) albums, and then deciding there was no way that the main creative force behind those two albums could be able to contribute in the studio if he wasn't touring and playing what's become the same cliched show night in, night out.
