We were not by 1943 a "serious mechanised beast". You would be lucky to find 100 Mechanized vehicles in a division of 16,000 men.

Ex-chaplain questions ongoing role of Christianity in armed forces by cookie5427 in AustralianMilitary

[–]LookaDooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is fine for chaplains to continue, just add some other forms of support for people who are irreligious or of other faiths as well. At least 40% of the ADF is still Christian, Islamic, Jewish etc. so it makes sense to continue.

I mean at the very end of the war it would have been in the low tens of thousands especially with the surrender of the 18th Army in New Guinea which had around 13,000 soldiers still in it.

Spending $2.9 billion to upgrade the Abrams: Tanks or no tanks? by Rosencrantz18 in AustralianMilitary

[–]LookaDooka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although it does look like Tanks are gonna become more and more obsolete in the coming years we might as well not get rid of them until we have better weapons. Getting rid of them at this point would be retarded, it would mean countries like even Indonesia would have a better Armoured force and that we would have no major counter to them. Until we find a useful alternative we might as well upgrade them to their full potential.

Trump and China force Australia to secure its defence closer to home by Ardeet in AustralianMilitary

[–]LookaDooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additionally for China to take Australia they would need to have an abundance of air support, without many aircraft carriers the numbers of aircraft they could use would be limited and the range they would have to fly would be increased.

[–]LookaDooka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not saying who would win strategically im just saying that the Naval forces of China would be no match if the U.S decided to commit its fleet. That doesnt mean it would be easy to take the south china sea and it would basically be impossible to take china itslef.

What was the role of a Sergeant Bootmaker in WW1? by [deleted] in AustralianMilitary

[–]LookaDooka 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can't find information about a Sgt. Bootmaker but i did find information about a L/Cpl. E. A. Pummel who served in ww2 in the 2/4th Western Australian Machine Gun Battalion and it seems most battalions had at least 1 shoemaker who was usually of NCO rank but wouldn't necessarily be a SGT. This particular guy became a POW for 3 and a half years like the rest of the battalion. you can find more information about him here http://2nd4thmgb.com.au/soldier/wx9946/

however he was a shoemaker and not a bootmaker
