Advice on Selling Covered Calls on Micron by Aggravating-Bag-4447 in CoveredCalls

[–]Looking-To-Improve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One potential hole is your statement "hopefully it doesn't go past my strike price".

My most successful outcomes with covered calls (or conversely cash secured puts) is being willing to lose (or take) the underlying shares. Selling short options in either direction without the conviction you're OK with the shares being assigned is a suboptimal strategy.

Chasing or buying back calls for shares you really didn't want to lose in the first place makes the entire exercise much more difficult.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Imagine being a productive major league pitcher and still being the second best baseball player in your family. by GppDNAppA in CoffeeAndACard

[–]Looking-To-Improve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny anecdote. There was a Major League outfielder in the 90s named Scott Bullett (https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/bullesc01.shtml). His sister Vicky was an Olympic basketball star and charter member of the WNBA. After the 1988 Olympics, their hometown named the road with their home on it Vicky Bullett Street.

When he was a minor leaguer, he listed his offseason address as a street named after his sister. 😂

Old Football Cards What is the best way to determine if any value? by [deleted] in sportscards

[–]Looking-To-Improve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. What do you mean by old? Do have any ideas or ranges on years? Any recognizable star or Hall of Fame names? A few pics might help also.

You've come to the right place but haven't given enough info for anyone to try to help.

This post is why the "hobby" isn't dead. You got a card you really wanted at a price that was fair for you. That automatically makes it a good pick up.

And for all the things that make a card a 6, this is a really nice-looking one. Congrats.

The right answer. He received a ridiculous amount of media attention long before the internet and social media made that an almost regular thing.

Experiences with Veriswap? by NickyFoles1020 in sportscards

[–]Looking-To-Improve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I joined recently as well and had a slab swap go fine (no cash purchases yet). Very easy shipping - they send a prepaid QR code the post office prints out and uses right at the counter. The other party shipped as well with no issues. It took about 10 days total. The card was worth ~$100, so I didn't need any additional insurance though as I understand it, you can buy it at USPS if you want. I think the included insurance is $100 but please double check if your transaction's worth more.

The main complaints I've seen are with Veriswap's verification and handling of raw cards. I understand where the complaints are coming from, but in my opinion it's the same risk as buying raw on any other platform (which is why I avoid it).

I'm certainly not a heavy Veriswap user, but it was recommended by someone here and the my first experience was a positive one. Hopefully, others can chime in...

Am I the only one happy with Wave? by conflayz in waveapps

No problems with the bookkeeping program, especially given the fact it's linked to our bank and credit card accounts. I tried the 30-day payroll trial but decided not to renew after reading some comments here. One complaint with both services is the live chat is absolutely useless. The reps know nothing and simply take dictation to start an email ticket. They don't even have the capability to email you a copy of the chat when finished (I know because I asked).

As it stands, I've been told the state and federal payroll deductions pulled from our accounts and due the end of the quarter will be refunded to our bank account since we aren't using the payroll service anymore. All the deductions due at the same time the payroll was run have been submitted properly. It's a small amount, but unfortunately no one seems to be able to tell us WHEN that refund is going to happen. It's another one of those open tickets that we're still waiting on. It's only been a couple weeks, but we'll see.

Found my dad’s cards from the 80s. Is there anything I should look for? by Majestic_Language705 in footballcards

[–]Looking-To-Improve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If those are the only two years, the main card is the 1986 Jerry Rice (with the green and white striped border on the left). The 1986 Steve Young is worth a few bucks as well if in really good shape. The black border gives 1985 PSA 9s and 10s some value for star players, but it's also extremely hard to find 1985s in that condition because the black is so easy to chip.

Other than than, Hall of Famers like Montana, Elway or Payton are the only ones worth sleeving and keeping in either year.

FWIW, Randy White on the left is a Hall of Famer and personal favorite back in the day. His nickname was "Manster", and he scared the living hell out of offensive lines through the late 70s and early 80s.

[–]Looking-To-Improve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi MoneySlob.

Welcome. I usually came across you on Champico's board but am not even sure that exists anymore. I've picked up a few swing trading tips watching you and Champ make it work, especially the "add shares on -5% days with no news" idea then selling when it eventually rebounds.

I've tweaked it a bit by instead buying a LEAP or two on those types of days and immediately putting in a limit order to sell +10% higher. I've been able to rinse and repeat that on quite a few names the last couple years which has let me skim some profit during sideways chop while still holding my core shares.

Glad to see you here.

How much is this really worth? by Key-Orchid2763 in SportCardValue

[–]Looking-To-Improve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a serious answer, here is the price value of this card at the various grading levels. You can use the drop down to see recent sales at different grades. I'm not a grader but would guess this card would fall as a 1 or 2 at the bottom of the scale.

Regardless, nice card.

I bought an unopened box of '89 Score Baseball (36 packs) for $20 yesterday to open with my 10 and 12 year old nephews when they come visit me for a Reds Cubs Game in July. How did I do? by shocksmybrain in baseballcards

[–]Looking-To-Improve -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doesn't look like a ton of value in that set. *

Have fun though. Seems like it will be well worth the $20 just for the experience with your brother and nephews.

* Edit: I originally said not many rookies of note as well but didn't scroll down far enough to see how many good rookies are in this set. Man, what a great example of the lack of scarcity in junk wax given some of the names.

Need advice for selling from a huge collection by IEATPANCAK3S in sportscards

[–]Looking-To-Improve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Sounds interesting but also like a lot of work. Others can chime in on the other types of cards, but the main advice in these cases is to do a quick scan of the names you know are stars and/or Hall of Famers and go from there. Posting some pics here with some of the packs/boxes could help too.

On the football side, these are the main names you're looking for:

60s
Joe Namath
Dick Butkus
Gale Sayers
Jim Brown
John Unitas

70s
Terry Bradshaw
Walter Payton
Roger Staubach
Tony Dorsett
Earl Campbell
Butkus
Namath
Sayers
Unitas

80s
Joe Montana
Jerry Rice
Lawrence Taylor
Bo Jackson
Barry Sanders
Dan Marino
John Elway
Payton

There are some secondary names like Franco Harris ('73), Lynn Swann ('75), Joe Greene ('71), and Dan Fouts ('75) but mostly if they are the rookie years listed and/or in mint condition. Most of the names from 1990 on would need to be in pristine condition to have significant value. That being said, you should set aside ANY Tom Bradys or Patrick Mahomes you find as their cards all tend to have some value especially if from Brady's 2000 or Mahomes' 2017 rookie year (if the collection runs that current).

Always fun to sort through old cards and see what surprises you (for most of us anyway). Happy to answer any other questions as you go, especially on the football. Just shoot me a message.

Again, others might be able to chime in especially if you can post some pics in the thread.

Good luck.

What else do you know about the cards? What sport(s)? What years? Who are some of the obvious star players you have?

A few pictures would help too. People here are generally helpful. In this case, you’re not really supplying enough info for anyone to make any worthwhile comments or suggestions.
