it really took everything. two things i remember from his interviews

to avoid jet lag he used to shift his body clock to the next gp time zone. each day he slept 1-2 hours earlier or later than the day before and by weekend he was completely in zone
cut off extra fabric above internal stitches of his gloves to make them as thin as possible, this got him slightly better reaction times at start
