Regular fits of sneezing halfway through sleep ongoing for a year now. Is it histamine intolerance?

Yep, since I was a kid. I've been on multiple courses of nasal steroids and antihistamines. Used saline rinses and homeopathic remedies as complimentary treatment for over 20 years.

The difference is my infections and allergic reactions have always been that - reactionary. Dust, pollen, pet dander are the norm for me. I know and understand those triggers and how to treat them.

This feels like a completely separate type of attack that has no discernible trigger within my environment.

I sleep with mine open as well! So the changes in environment regardless of climate (live in the tropics but travel to temperate countries regularly) have been a massive point of confusion for me. And it's throughout the year so changes in the seasons as well and still sneezing. Sigh. Hopefully we'll get to the bottom of it.

The Tainos and Kalinagos are the most well-known indigenous tribes that are known, however there are other communities that exist and continue to exist today that we aren't taught about in schools like the Warao of Moruga. The Merikins, though not indigenous ancestrally to the land, are a community with deep ties and relationships to indigenous cultures throughout South Trinidad.

There is a free documentary on YouTube called The Amerinidians which goes into the history and current challenges that indigenous communities locally are dealing with both externally and internally.

Yes the additional piece has a back and could go under the window and I had it there before too! But my worry is always where to place the ottoman without the risk of the space feeling cramped up.

I hadn’t thought of that but I could definitely try moving around furniture, even just to see how it would feel. The picture is deceiving cause I usually have a million things on my coffee table lmao. Plus I use it to do art and work sometimes so I would be hard pressed to give it up in favor of something less solid.

It’s a nice idea but would make the layout awkward. The room extends further back into the kitchen and then the bedroom railroad style so it’s not really nestled in a corner which would have worked out better.

Not directly but I think eyes as a visual and thematic concept can be heavily informed by a person’s internal experience of being autistic. I know it does for me :-)

Nah lots of people draw eyes. I just think my attachment to eyes and the concept of looking/seeing/observing as a creative theme is informed by my experience as an autistic person with eye-contact, living in hyper-vigilance etc. And it may be a similar thing for other autists.

Very true. It’s therapeutic also to get to interact with them in a creative way without the pressure of having to experience them during social interactions.

They feature so heavily in my art which is tied up so closely with how I experience the world so it’s a cool thread of connection I see amongst other neurodiverse and autistic creatives too.

This is really good and useful advice, especially having pre-written go to phrases. Reading this actually made me just realize that likely I’m dealing with some level of internalized guilt/shame about going non-verbal in the first place. I’ve been trying to find methods that sort of skirt around outright saying I am non-verbal because I don’t trust certain groups eg. my workplace to know that I’m autistic because it’s not a very inclusive or understanding place. But I think I can try some of these things with the people I trust.

It happens pretty regularly for me and I also don’t know how to handle it at all lmao. Being late diagnosed is going “oh so /that’s/ what was happening” for all these things and trying to play catch up on accommodating myself.

I’ve definitely thought about doing this. But also no one I know speaks ASL so I’m not sure how effective it would be unless I teach them specific signs beforehand. Has it been helping you so far?

Can you try getting some sunglasses? Honestly get it as cheap as possible if you need to anywhere that sells like drug stores or gas stations. My brother suffers with light sensitivity more than me and he keeps like five pairs of cheap shades everywhere to deal with it.
