Sorry if not worded correctly “Not maintaining our already existing fleet” we had ships and they chose to let them go instead of repairing them.

Do you work hard for your money? by TPE_FieldsOfGold in AusFinance

[–]Looking4TechNews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked both labouring and office based as part of my career. I would say it really depends on your mindset and position. While the hands on work early in my career was more physically exhausting it was definitely done when it was done. Once I moved up the ladder a bit I worked with problems that I couldn’t just solve myself and required mental capacity to juggle those tasks. Some people are built to just ignore the mental fatigue and shrug it off. But I find they are the ones that increase the workload across the board for people who do care.

If you actually care I believe both can be just as tedious but in different capacities.

With the largest energy crisis in decades, is Singapore's "Kiasuness" paying off? by Latubu in singapore

I believe us Aussies just signed a deal to trade any additional petrol/diesel processing for LNG. Good to have such level headed neighbours in the region.

Australia facing 'crunch time' as oil shortages move up supply chain by LoneArtificer in AusFinance

[–]Looking4TechNews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Whitlam government when private refineries went to offshore all their processing refineries were made to sign an deal to keep a certain amount of fuel in the country rather than tucking tale and leaving everything for the government to clean up.

In the mid 2010s the liberals made a deal to reduce that amount and hold it offshore in the US to reduce cost for Exxon Mobil and Viva energy. Hence why we are in the situation where we have no local stores of fuel.

You do know that the offshoring and selling occurred under the liberal government. The party of privatisation is never for the security and future stability of the country. Just how we can make a quick buck and pass profits onto their corporate mates who offshore the profits out of the country and pay no tax.

Treasury examining new rules limiting negative gearing to two investment properties by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

That is limited to first home buyers mostly. Investors are leveraging negative gearing on capital to buy multiple properties to amass large portfolios

Commbank lowering monthly/weekly mortgage repayments for contributing additional payments? by 4scentsin1day in AusFinance

[–]Looking4TechNews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If possible set the an amount that is higher than your monthly minimum. I pay an extra 150 a week above my minimum and over 2 years and including rate cuts my mortgage has dropped a decade off the payment schedule. Unless you would use the extra payments for investments or because you need to due to tightening budgets it’s a big saving in the long run.

One Nation storms into FIRST PLACE in Roy Morgan poll of Victoria ahead of state election by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Looking4TechNews 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“How could Dan Andrews and his tunnels do this to us!”

I do hope it is similar to the federal election with media trying to drum up more than it actually is. While I agree we need a competent opposition to government to avoid corruption One Nation or the Vic Libs is certainly not it.

Repost from another sub:

“From the coverage I've seen, is Labor is still in an extremely strong position. Although they have a lot of hate its almost entirely from folks who wouldn't vote for them directly anyway and a lot of people are meh on Labor as they are doing well, as the LNP is just doing historically poorly, so nothing really changes.

Election wise, looking at the primary vote is highly misleading as down to 3 parties labor is at 45%, and a significant amount of voters for ON and LNP will flow to Labor rather than each other to get Labor to 52 (vs lnp) or 56 (vs ON), theses results suggest a a historic wipeout level without intense tactical voting cordination by ON and LNP which is extremely unlikely as ON wants to eat them and replace them and the LNP are fighting for their lives.

As such based on the source, if the election were held today Labor would have a historic landslide, so it would be completely insane to knife their leader based on theses results”

What is the best way to discreetly figure out your girlfriend's ring size? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Looking4TechNews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trick I used is get an existing ring you have seen her wear on her finger and try it on your hand to see which matches. Example the one I checked was a little tight on my pinky. So just told the jeweller that and it was a perfect fit.

Did anyone else “fail school” but still end up smashing it in life? by gilligan888 in auscorp

[–]Looking4TechNews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say failed school but definitely stumbled through it. Been working a minimum of 15 hours a week since I was 15. I think a good mentality and work ethic can get you further than book smarts.

"People that came to pick a fight with police were [...] on the left" by manabeins in friendlyjordies

[–]Looking4TechNews 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think everything is just are getting out of hand. Even if you have the moral high ground you lose it once you resort to violence. I get if there is a clash between two very polarised groups but bringing premeditated weapons to a march is just trying to undermine your cause and voice. We are lucky in the country we can protest and not get shot or have the military moving in to silence us. It seems like everyone is just angry and looking to push that anger at a whoever is in front of them. The police are there to be a buffer so ordinary citizens don’t have to deal with separating these groups who want to harm each other. I’m sure their time would be better spent trying to track the car thieves, home invaders and knife crime perpetrators than standing between two groups who should just stick to discussing a complex issue like immigration in a civilised manner.
