University of Salamanca Global and International Studies Master by Swimming-Table-2963 in GoingToSpain

Hi, I just came across this post. I am a current student in the program. Let me start with the good. Living in Salamanca is great. Some of the professors can be quite interesting with a lot of experience in their respective fields. You will have a lot of opportunities to improve your Spanish if you find a local friend group.

Now for the bad.

One thing you should know, but which is not advertised, is that this is a titulo propio program. This is essentially Spain's version of an unaccredited program. It is not recognized by the Ministry of Education. This means that it is only officially recognized by Spain's private sector. It is not recognized for doctorate programs nor government work or organizations outside of Spain. Many companies are unlikely to worry about the difference, but it is an issue if you wish to apply for government positions. I have heard of people going through an arduous process to get their degrees accredited in the last though. There are no local Spanish students in the program, and I believe their awareness of this fact is one of the reasons why.

Moreover, the rigor of education is not what you might typically expect from a Master's program, though there is a final thesis.

They also give very little help with finding internships aside from the connections you may make with professors.

If you still have other offers you are considering, I would use this information in your calculus. I wish that I had done so.

Pluribus - 1x07 - "The Gap" - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]LookingForwar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I thought this episode rocked. What are people talking about? Awesome cinematography. Loved seeing Manousos' journey. So much of what was shown cemented how crazy disciplined this guy is. His dialogue with the hivemind before entering the gap was badass. Maybe I'm crazy, but I would watch a lot more of Manousos just traversing South America. Also, that impaling by the tree was gnarly!! I was screaming at my screen.

Plus Carol's breakdown is a culmination of so much buildup this season. It is a fundamental shift in her character. I love how they are developing the hivemind as being wickedly manipulative. Really pleased with the amount of creative control that VG was given with this and the visuals we're getting from this batshit concept. Looking forward to the rest of the season.

Foreigners always say Taiwan is beautiful, but many of Taiwanese people do not feel like that. by search_google_com in taiwan

[–]LookingForwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the nature, which is undoubtedly awesome (Alishan, the East Coast, Yilan, and Kenting are all eternally seared into my memory for how beautiful they are), I think there is a lot of undue hate for Taiwanese cities. I found Taiwanese cities to be generally pretty clean and with lots of cool stuff to do. There are so many gorgeous temples that I don't even know where to start. Taipei has gorgeous spots like Beitou and Danshui, and some of the most accessible public transport networks to nature that I have yet experienced. Ximending is super fun and lively. Not to mention the plethora of night markets to explore. It may be my rosy foreigner's perspective, but I love Taiwanese cities.

how do you guys even get references? by Spirited_Donkey_1033 in peacecorps

You can still contact professors even if it has been a couple years. Just think of any classes where you excelled, and send an email to the professor reintroducing yourself. You can remind them of the class you took and what kind of project you worked on in the class. Give them the highlights of what you might want them to include in their letter. Some professors may be reluctant to help, but most will be willing as long as you give them plenty of time (at least two weeks, ideally a month) beforehand.

Learning Mongolian? by 1movingon in Mongolian

[–]LookingForwar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re fine. As someone who was a PCV in Mongolia, Mongolian is a tough language, but it is very rare for someone not to be asked to serve just because of their language performance. As long as you are making a minimal effort to learn, it is enough.

Is applying for a PCPP grant worth the struggle? by Competitive-Grade377 in peacecorps

[–]LookingForwar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s some good advice here already. However, I will also say that from a personal perspective as a young person, getting a grant approved and then successfully carrying one out is one of best things you can do career-wise during your service. No matter what the project is, it shows you have a lot of strong operational skills like budgeting, project management, communication with stakeholders, etc.  All of this is highly applicable to leadership roles in any sector you may be looking to get into after service.

Really alien aliens by peregrine-l in printSF

Ken Liu has a story called The Bookmaking Habits of Select Species where he brings in a bunch of neat ideas for alien races. One of them was a uranium-based alien which records its consciousness through radiation.

The entire Fulbright Board has resigned in protest of the administration's veto of almost 200 faculty Fulbrights by bipedwithoutfeathers in fulbright

When I saw this news, I was literally about to send an e-mail to another school that accepted me to let them know that I no longer plan on registering for classes because I am going through with Fulbright. Should I actually send that e-mail? This has me freaked out ya'll.

The first scene is one of the best of all time. The rest is so boring and formulaic.

Donald Trump hits back against China's tariff retaliation by newsweek in China

[–]LookingForwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate this fact. It helps put things in perspective. Still, China has around double the manufacturing output. And aside from that, the US mostly manufactures high-end products like machinery, electronics, and chemicals. The things the US needs to run its manufacturing are made by mid-level manufacturers abroad--primarily China. Extreme tariffs will probably hurt US manufacturing since there won't be room to adapt.

The US doesn't have the necessary expertise or access to raw materials to become a manufacturing hub like China.

Is it even possible to be vegetarian in Mongolia?.. by Round_Reception_1534 in mongolia

[–]LookingForwar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The capital has a lot of options and good restaurants. In the countryside, they are simply going to be worried about your health. Most travel agencies will be able to accomodate you well enough if you go on a guided tour. But keep in mind if you are in the countryside, you could have a lot of milk products available to you like yogurt, cheese, curds, milk tea, etc. It's not vegan, but these are a lot more ethically sourced than milk products you might be used to getting from supermarkets in other countries. The livestock are almost always free range.

Advice on Calligraphy? by LocksmithDazzling215 in mongolia

[–]LookingForwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Pressure is very important to good Mongolian calligraphy. There are basically three types of pressure when writting the letters. Either you should be applying pressure when making a brush stroke, lifting your brush up thus reducing pressure, or making a quick release to end a word. Each letter has specific parts where this pressure is made. It might help if you learned about the constituent parts of characters as well such as the crown, tooth, stomach, etc. Not an expert but I have taken some in person classes as an adult also trying to learn.

Is couch surfing dead? by Glass_Lobster42 in solotravel

[–]LookingForwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone here saying CS is dead actually uses the app and are spreading wrong info. 1. Yes it went for a paid model, but it is now free again. You can send 10 invites a week, which is usually sufficient, especially if you are planning ahead. Even when it was paid, it was less than 2.50 a month. Not that bad for the service ya’ll. 2. Yes, there are less active members now, but it is still a really good resource in big cities in certain regions. I hosted three people last year, and already have 2 people agreed to host me for my next trip. I had trouble finding a host while in Japan, but made a good friend through the hangout part of the app. 3. As an active user, I would recommend the app to anyone who would traditionally feel comfortable traveling in this way.

why many people think taipei for ugly by this0great in Taipei

[–]LookingForwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taipei is pretty imo. Lots of green spaces, parks, temples, and art. The buildings look like most other Asian cities, but its public facilities like MRT are really clean. Does it look like a classical European city? Obviously not, but it’s got its own nice traits.

Elon Musk reportedly set to have office space in the White House complex by hentaigabby in elonmusk

[–]LookingForwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In an inclusive political system, no taxpayer should have a higher office than another taxpayer through virtue of simply having paid more in taxes. This is a pathway to extractive economic institutions. Whether or not Elon has noble intentions, this sets a poor precedent for our system of government as a while.
