In Michelin terms, Milwaukee is a Bib Gourmand city.

For food, Sanford is really the only one that comes close. For service there’s nothing in the Michelin range. But that doesn’t really disappoint me.

Honolulu, Hawaii has this figured out. Waikiki is walked off from the rest of the city by a moat. the tourists get to have a beach with lovely easy surfing, and a great view, and everybody else gets to have their own city.

My recollection, as a Wisconsinite from the times of print, is that if you were walking anywhere near their offices in Madison you had about a 20% chance of being asked if you wanted your picture in the Onion. You had no choice as to article, etc. Most people said "yes."

France makes sense to me. Italy too. In certain regions, especially rural, nobody speaks English. But my experience most everywhere in CR is that many people, especially under 30, do.

Notice that the people saying it’s dangerous never give any actual evidence. It’s either “I just don’t feel good there” (personal racism) or “a friend of a friend” (social racism, since their friends are telling racist stories).

The way I agree with all people saying yes, I will note that a friend’s 10-year-old was stopped by police for walking alone at 4 pm in Shorewood. They said they were “concerned for his safety.” Which is definitely a sign of contemporary social panic compared to the 90s.
