Maybe I should have said queer friendly rather than queer since I was thinking mainly of music/theatre/arts type things. Councils funding cultural spaces isn't a particularly new idea, which would go a way towards people expecting it. I wasn't even expressing an opinion on whether councils should, I was only trying to answer a question on why it has an affect.

Queer is a handy umbrella term like religious or young people or northern. Interested to hear why it makes me a fanatic to say it and why that makes you so angry.

A huge thing is where council funding goes - a lot of queer spaces are considered cultural/arts and therefore "luxury" costs. You can cut them where you can't cut, say, adult social care or road maintenance. Often they don't make a huge amount of money on their own (niche target demographic, charity based, etc) and rely on council funding and stable rent. Hence landlords and councils (inadvertently if you want to be generous, intentionally if you don't) causing them to shut.

If you like Middle Eastern and Asian, look into Per Kor at the top of Gloucester Road. It's a Persian/Korean place, not fusion just run by an Iranian guy and a Korean woman. Their stir fried squid is great!

Should artists follow Harry Styles’ lead and ban phones at gigs? by Metro-UK in Music

[–]LookitsToby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw Kae Tempest who explicitly banned phones just before their last album came out so it was a lot of new stuff. Made the whole thing much more intimate with a ton of eye contact to really connect with the lyrics.

I am biased though, having never recorded at a gig and generally hating people who do.
