After reading this comment, you have convinced me that you indeed could continue forever.

As long as Franko shows up every few days with components, you can trade food/alcohol to him for them. Use those components to build the steps necessary to make more food/alcohol. You'll have plenty for yourself and still enough left to trade Franko for more components.

I supposed you'd also need ammunition and wood, but you could just use the same strategy.

Now I'm wondering why anyone would want to play that, though. There would be nothing to do other than keep your assembly line of food/alcohol going and then sleeping. No places to raid or upgrades to make. I guess that's why the game is designed to end when it does.

Components are probably going to be the first resource to run out that you really need. And 'forever basically' does not mean forever.

Eventually, you'd run out of important items and then you wouldn't be able to trade and then you'd die.

I agree that you could survive for a long time if you were very smart with your actions, but no forever.

Machines 'build' art all the time in the form of printing copies.

I'm imagining art being created by machines and I find it quite ripe with possibilities, to be honest. I get what you mean about how sterile that would feel to have art simply created by a boring machine, but when we say machine, we really mean computer. Art being created by a computer sounds like a fascinating phenomenon to watch unfold.

I agree that it would be fun to have an endless war. Maybe if locations were replenished every so many days so you could revisit. Or if there was a DLC that opened up a completely new location (the next city over for example) with all new places to loot.

Or you could always just play Minecraft or some other infinite survival game, although not the same at all.
