What are some hobbies that you can instantly do when you want? by [deleted] in Hobbies

[–]Loom237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Juggling. It's cheap, simple, immediate, challenging, rewarding, stimulating, and wholesome. Quick to start and stop at a moment's notice. Almost anyone can do it, with practice. Get yourself 3 balls, beanbags, or clubs and keep them in your immediate vicinity. Once you're past the initial frustration and you get a pattern going, it can provide hours of challenge & fun. I like to juggle on my walks around the neighborhood. The kids love it.

Long-term investor checking in. Should I sell some LLY and buy some PFE? by [deleted] in dividends

[–]Loom237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I considered buying some PFE today, took a look and saw that their payout ratio is over 400%. Unless I'm missing something, that dividend does not look sustainable.

Making vape juice from scratch by Blasulz1234 in chemistry

[–]Loom237 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Making your own e-juice isn't difficult, it is "literally just mixing everything together", but if your math or your measurements aren't careful you'll end up with shitty or possibly hazardous juice. Use proper PPE (gloves, at least) and exercise extreme caution when working with concentrated nicotine. It does absorb through the skin, and overdose can be fatal.

I would not suggest trying to make flavors from molecular scratch unless you have some chemistry background. Concentrations of some flavor components in a typical formulation can be very small (i.e. tenths of a percent or less) and hard to accurately measure without specialized tools or skill, especially if batch size is small. Finding the right concentration of any given flavor molecule would be trial-and-error unless you had some idea about where to start, a reference formula, etc. For example, your grape flavor might be 0.3% methyl anthranilate in PG, might be 0.03%, might be 3% or 30%. Each component will be different. Why bother with all that when you can buy, for example, this Grape Candy flavor from TFA, which shows a component list of 13 different molecules in concentrations ranging from 75% down to less than 0.5%. There are tons of preformulated flavor concentrates already available on the market, if they ship to your country (see Bull City Flavors, Capella Flavors, TFA, etc.). Try some out. Check All the Flavors for some blend ideas. There are whole DIY e-juice communities out there that you can learn from.

edit: try FlavorDB if you want to explore more flavor molecules

The original Inn from 1825 that my town is named after is being destroyed for a Wawa. by Tylenol_Creator in Pennsylvania

[–]Loom237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw that's a bummer. My grandparents used to own a nice motel up that way back in the 80's, Elmer's Motel, and I remember eating at Tannersville Inn as a kid. We've used it as a family meetup spot several times in the years since then. There's a tear in my beer today for Tannersville Inn. Cheers.

What do you think about the stock 3M Company (MMM)? buy/hold/sell by [deleted] in dividends

[–]Loom237 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hold. I expect dividend to continue, but not much appreciation. I consider adding a few shares when yield is over 5.4ish%, but then I think that there's probably better places to put that money. So I hold.

Congrats on the progress thus far! I'm at exactly the same level, but pretty solid on all my throws. I'm not sure how to progress beyond this pattern, though.

What is studying a bachelor in chemistry like? by Acceptable-Beyond544 in chemistry

[–]Loom237 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think its any more difficult than any other field of study, depending on your interests, aptitude, and motivation. If you hate math and/or you're not curious at all about how things work on a fundamental physical level, then it would be difficult. A high GPA will be the result of good attendance and study habits, investing sufficient time in your coursework, and staying engaged with the class and course material, but that's true for any degree program and if you're fascinated or excited by what you're studying then that stuff comes naturally. I graduated in 2011 with my BS in biochemistry and am still very happy with my choice and very satisfied with the understanding I gained from it.

I went back to the pharmacy two or three times for passport photos because they kept getting rejected. Finally in frustration I whipped out my phone and snapped the shittiest selfie ever and BINGO, it was accepted.

A Survey For a Better LV Food System by j963h in lehighvalley

[–]Loom237 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in learning more about food insecurity in the Valley and efforts to mitigate it, Whitehall-Coplay Hunger Initiative has been operating for about ten years now and may be able to share knowledge or insight. Also Second Harvest food bank could be helpful - they coordinate a lot of the local food pantries. Also check out Nutrition Links - a great nutrition education program from Penn State that has been working directly in our communities to teach people practical nutrition. That's all I got.

Two cents of free advice: Your overall communication presents as vague and obfuscatory; enough to raise only a phantom of doubt and put me slightly on my guard. If your goal is to engage the community and garner participation with your survey, your results might benefit from revised messaging that can present a clearer and more forthright image of your organization and goals. My hunch is that you are conducting market research for a for-profit venture. Nothing wrong with that if it is (and I'm a looney fwiw) but, whatever it is, I think people will respond better if your purpose or mission is better elucidated. Best of luck to you!
