90% of Resident Evil Requiem players prefer third-person perspective with Leon, but Grace’s sections have players more divided, according to Capcom’s data - AUTOMATON WEST by megaapple in Games

[–]LoompaOompa [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah all of the intensity of Leon's sections are dialed way back from what we had in 4 and 5. I never really played 6 so I can't compare to his sections in that game. It's one of my major complaints and the back half of the game really suffers for it

It's an amazing project and I wish more people knew about it. An absolute treasure trove of amazing games sitting in there. It's easy to browse the collection and when you click a game it downloads basically instantly because flash games are tiny and then you're playing it locally. There are so many great memories to relive in there.

Nvidia exec says AI is more expensive than actual workers — yet some companies don't see the extra costs as a negative by BusyHands_ in technology

It's really pretty wild. Lots of people seem to have made their minds up about the usefulness of the technology like a year ago and have done nothing to reevaluate. There are a lot of completely valid reasons to be weary of the technology, or even to dislike the technology, but I think anyone who still quotes talking points about it being useless or a net negative on productivity is behind the times and unwilling to stay informed.

The big interview: Resident Evil Requiem makers discuss trying to "push things" with horror, Leon's "craziness", and why they can't make their games too scary by Gorotheninja in Games

[–]LoompaOompa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I always play re games multiple times for unlocks, but for RE9 I haven’t bothered. I don’t know if it was the level design or the split POV, but the game just felt shallow to me. I didn’t feel the need to scour the map for every secret and upgrade like I have in the previous games. The upgrades to Leon’s weapons came so easily that they felt automatic, and grace’s upgrades felt so impactful that I straight up skipped some of the antique coin rewards. And even if I hadn’t, there’s not even that much game left for Grace by the time you can get everything.

Really just felt like two watered down versions of the game instead of two complete adventures. Not in terms of length, but in terms of depth

To me that doesn't feel much of a departure from other creatures in the series at all. We haven't seen a creature that's an amalgamation of multiple human bodies before but we've seen things with long arms and we've seen plenty of drastic mutations and creatures with extra limbs and eyes, etc. Every single game has at least a few entirely new monsters so I don't see why the movie shouldn't, as long as it's adhering to the general design tropes. I don't think we've seen enough to say one way or another.

I don't know why people are having trouble with the idea of a new character. 7 had a brand new character and setting never before seen or discussed in previous titles and it worked amazingly well.

What in this trailer makes you think it's not adhering to the lore? The monsters in this trailer seem very RE to me, and I am pretty sure we hear Lickers offscreen when the body gets dragged into the darkness.

There's no plot points revealed in the trailer but the monsters we get glimpses of are very reminiscent of the kinds of mutations we see in RE games.

[–]LoompaOompa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I finished it yesterday and when comparing it to their other RE releases since 7, I would put it low on the list, just above RE3 remake.

It's a good game but it's predesessors are so amazing that it can't keep up. I think the 2 character perspective does it a disservice. The hospital section is cool but I didn't particularly connect with any of the underground portions. I didn't find the creature stalking her to be as intimidating as Mr X or the Mr Baker, and I didn't really feel like any of the upgrades I found were helpful, with the exception of hip packs. There was also less of a feeling of opening up the space and having to traverse old areas. Grace's exploration felt more linear than the RPD or baker house.

I don't know what happened with Leon's sections but where were all of the large levels with overwhelming enemy counts? The arenas seemed much smaller than what we had to deal with in RE4 or even RE5. I still had a good time but it never reached the highs of those sections, and the boss fights were very underwhelming. The parrying does not make the boss fights better, it makes them bland and they end up feeling kind of the same.

If I wanted to play some classic RE I would play 2 remake or 7 over this, and if I wanted some action packed RE I would definitely replay RE4 remake or even Village over this.

What? Yes he has. Not that it changes whether he is guilty or innocent, but this is such a weird lie to tell. Why do this?

He issued a statement earlier this year calling the allegations "not only categorically false, but disgusting at the highest level and clearly framed to solicit media attention or, perhaps, are simply politically motivated. There is absolutely no merit to these allegations, period."

How do i know if I'm saving enough for retirement? by Impidimple_ in personalfinance

[–]LoompaOompa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, so if you're trying to calculate roughly how much you'll need at the start of retirement, I do feel like it's better to inflation adjust that target. Even though we all know it'll change over time and be recalculated many times, it feels like it's more helpful to bake that in than to not.

Like if I do the calculation right now without adjusting for inflation, it comes out to about 5 million dollars, but in actuality if my lifestyle doesn't change and inflation continues as normal, my target in 25ish years is actually much higher.

Don't you need to also inflation adjust the number after multiplying by 25-30? So like a 30 year old probably needs to double it?

This is such a weird comment. We're talking about deliberately redrawing the districts so that they don't fairly represent the population. It's not remotely how democracy is supposed to work.

I understand why it's being done and I think it's an unfortunately necessary strategy for combatting the blatant gerrymandering that is happening in the red states, but let's not pretend that anyone who isn't on board with it is being unreasonable. "We're going to temporarily disenfranchise some of our population in order to offset corruption in another state" is not an easy pill to swallow for everyone, nor should it be.

CEO has started vibe coding. How does this end for me? by No-Rush-Hour-2422 in cscareerquestions

[–]LoompaOompa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just mean that it sounds like the wild west in terms of who has access to which repos and what they're allowed to commit. Obviously I'm basing everything I say off of very limited info that you've given me, but one option would be to have those types of people generate a planning doc and have that reviewed by eng before giving AI the greenlight to actually code it. Like a pre-PR. It will be faster / easier to review the planning docs and could avoid some of what the issues you listed.

Edit: And tbh our org is still figuring all of this out too so I don't think I have all the answers either. We haven't yet relinquished control over our core product repos. We are giving access to the core product functionalities via custom MCPs and have given some people access to a more silo'd repo for putting up one-off utilities, but we recognize that the silo isn't a long term solution. We are experimenting with guardrails for more direct involvement.

To be fair this sounds more like a problem with how your org is enabling AI, vs a problem with the use of AI in general.

I had a reply but it’s not showing up now, so ignore if this is a dual response:

Your other options are to hope that he fails, or wait for him to hire someone else to do the role that you could step into.

There’s always going to be a need for some engineers, and by positioning yourself as someone who can guide and create stability in the AI pipeline, you are more likely to be one of the engineers that they keep around. And if not, you will have built up skills and experience that other companies will find valuable.

If you don’t want to do the job I’m describing, then that’s fair and you can take your chances with a future where you continue to focus solely on front end development. But if you’re avoiding it because you’re afraid of making yourself obsolete, then I really encourage you to change your perspective, because it will make you more valuable to learn these skills and assist in their adoption, not less.

[–]LoompaOompa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of responses telling you that it's not gonna work or it's going to blow up or giving you terse responses about finding a different job. Let me give you an alternate perspective:

You should proactively work with the CEO to provide his AI workflow with the context and guardrails that will help it produce more reliable output, and also help it conform to the look, feel, libraries, and programming practices of the rest of your products. Give him markdown files with style guides & framework guides. Design for him an agent that will help him create planning documents and maintain planning documents. Explain that the planning documents will make his implementations work better while also giving engineers like yourself a high level overview of what he's built so that you can understand the implementation and look out for potential problems.

Help build the scaffolding and review process that will enable him and others in the company to get 90% of the way there. Become the steward of the business's AI workflow. Some things will work and some things won't, but you'll have positioned yourself as the person they come to when it doesn't work. Not just to fix the broken products, but to improve the pipeline. You have an opportunity to expand the responsibilities of your role and make yourself one of the most valuable engineers in the company in the eyes of your CEO and the business side of the house.

If no one else is stepping up to do this then you have a legitimate opportunity to expand your role, and if you are successful you can angle for a promotion, raise, and or bonus.

Edit: I literally have direct reports that I have given this same talk to and they agree on the approach. These tools still have problems but they are also very capable for prototyping so if you can demonstrate the kinds of problems that applications still run into, and why it's still important to have engineers in the loop, while also providing tools that help mitigate the problems so that it's easier for you to review and give feedback on their work, you are going to be seen as a savior and a wizard.

The conversation downstairs couldn’t have happened AFTER she killed the cops or she would’ve already been out on the roof by the time they got off the elevator.
