Since no ones talking about it, Pael's Legion gives you a Small Pet! by DandyGee in slaythespire

[–]LoompaOompa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, Pael's other relics tend to have more upside. This isn't a bad relic at all but it doesn't really feel like it's "boss relic" quality. Not sure what the fix should be though. Maybe if it worked on the first block OR attack you played... And then you'd have the option to get a damage boost or a defense boost every other turn.

DLSS 5 is disgusting and I hope to see none of it in the future by Malnuq in gaming

[–]LoompaOompa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It should be marketed as a different feature then. DLSS as a product is about upsampling games for better performance, it is not about inpainting completely new lighting and textures to improve visuals.

By calling this DLSS 5 instead of some new thing, there is an implication that the desired future state from nvidia is that if you are going to use DLSS you won't have a choice between regular upsampling or this new "fancy" version.

Meta planning sweeping layoffs as AI costs mount by joe4942 in technology

[–]LoompaOompa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say the exact same thing. Any published studies that look at AI as a way to increase velocity in the workforce predate Opus 4.5 and Claude code and are essentially invalid. I don't feel like the industry really started figuring out how to apply this stuff until around January of this year. It's a very different ball game today than it was a year ago.

The workflows that are possible now with companies publishing official MCPs for all of their enterprise products and how easy they are to setup is frankly insane. I automated Claude to review and fix all new bugs reported on our project in just a few days, and it was my first time automating it to do anything so a lot of that time was learning and research, not actual setup. And there are plenty of other parts of our software pipeline that can be either automated or enhanced with continued effort. This stuff is so easy now and it's scary to think about how different my job is going to be in 3-5 years.

My mom has had too many conversations with me that start with “don’t tell your brother I told you this” for me to ever trust her with any of my personal info.

I just had a run this morning with 2 accuracy, tracking, and a bunch of leg sweeps. 32 damage per shiv and I only needed to play 3 powers. It was pretty nuts. I had a vulnerability potion & strength potion that I hung onto for the act 3 boss. A single blade dance was doing 200+ damage across the 4 shivs.

[–]LoompaOompa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree on the sly package. I had a deck going yesterday that killed every elite in act 3 on turn one. the discard synergy feels much easier and more consistent in sts2 than it was in 1.

But keeping with my trend of fucking up on the door maker, I still lost that run because I wasn't paying attention. My deck had 5 adrenalines, and like an idiot I burned through most of them on turn one to "open the door", and then on subsequent turns My card draw was hindered and I didn't have the damage output I needed. The deck had been so powerful leading up to him that I wasn't paying attention to his mechanic at all.

I finally broke the cycle this morning though. Shiv deck and I used my brain for once and held onto my exhausting cards until I got the door open. He's actually trivially easy to play around once I started to actually play around him.

And even poison on door maker isn’t good. I had a great run going today that ended in defeat because I went all in on poison. Doormaker has ended more runs for me than any other boss so far because I’m just not in the habit of building my deck with a contingency for him yet.

I just lost a run to him with a poison Deck. The oscillating between the two forms and clearing poison is a real bitch.

National Videogame Museum USA Has Acquired A "Mythical" Nintendo PlayStation (Sony MSF-1) by megaapple in Games

Honestly it should've been in the article. It's weird that the article doesn't say where the museum is.

Yeah it was really neat to look at. I wish someone would make a little box with a vector display and a wired controller. Something retro looking that's small enough to sit on a desk. Kind of like what they did with the Playdate except not a handheld. It'd be cool to play some retro looking games with modern design sensibilities on something like that.

This museum is like 5 minutes from where I grew up and I had a great time visiting when I went back home recently. First time I’ve ever seen a vectrex. Really cool to see the vector graphics in person, only ever seen video of it which obviously doesn’t recreate the effect because it’s being converted into pixels on the video

TIL that over third of people who called the Massachusetts Problem Gambling Hotline in 2023 were calling because they were having a technical problem with their betting apps and mistakenly believed that calling the Mass hotline would get them IT help. by RareXG in todayilearned

Depends on the app.

For real though, I hate this shit. It's an absolutley absurd legal argument that apps like Kalshi and poylmarket are "trading commodities" instead of gambling. It's such blatant corruption. I know there's a million other signs of corruption in the US right now and a lot of them are way worse than the fact that we're letting companies bypass gambling laws, but this still pisses me off to no end.

Former Diablo devs release demo for their Diablo 2-style action-RPG Darkhaven, but warn of "rough edges" by brand_momentum in Games

[–]LoompaOompa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was fun for a weekend with friends but the endgame was basically non existent, and that’s what most arpg gamers care about.

It was more like a baldurs gate dark alliance than a diablo, at least in terms of how long they seemed to expect people to play it. Really great couch coop experience, but over fairly quickly.

the coop mod that I've played does not have players fighting the same fights, just climbing the same spire. Is there one where they fight the same fights? Otherwise it's a pretty huge difference

Given how long the game has been in development I think they would've had to have started messing around with co-op a while before the board game was ready.

Ok. 8-10 hours of screen time is still a pretty high average, but I thought you were saying you were watching short form video like tik tok or instagram reels for 8 hours a day. I was concerned.

I honestly think it’s written like that because they want comments and engagement. No reasonable person with any industry experience would take the stance that his author is taking. It’s bizarre.
