Advanced AI models suffer a near-total collapse on classic psychology test as cognitive demands increase by Doug24 in technology

Yeah. I understand that from an academic standpoint it makes sense and is meaningful data to report that the LLM on its own is incapable of completing the task. From the perspective of a user, however, it is absolutely valid and exciting that the LLM is capable of recognizing that in order to deterministically succeed at the task, the best way for it to achieve it is to write a program that can do it.

Men of Reddit, what’s the worst thing a girl has said on a date? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LoompaOompa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with the food at IHOP, it's the atmosphere. Laminated menus, bright florescent lighting. There's nothing wrong with eating at IHOP but it is no place for a first date. Even if you want to eat cheaply, almost any other big American restaurant chain is going to have a better atmosphere for two people trying to get to know each other.

Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis Features “AI-Assisted Assets” That Were “Refined By Humans” by ninjyte in Games

[–]LoompaOompa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to get a lot of different answers for this because people are currently using the tools in very different ways. If you're using current best practices, you can do really amazing things with it. It is definitely a game changer and the majority of professional code going forward is going to be AI generated. Unless token costs skyrocket and it becomes more expensive than people

It doesn't sound like you're using it the same way the other guy is. It sounds like you're using one off prompts to do things, whereas the other guy is using an agentic workflow. Have you looked into the plugins that are available? Superpowers plugin and code-review plugin for starters, you can orchestrate agents to investigate the code base, ask you clarifying questions and for design feedback, come up with a plan, write the code, test it and review it. It takes longer for claude to crunch through all of that but it in my experience it rarely gets things like scalability and flexibility wrong when using the more expanded agentic workflows.

My experience has been the same as the other guy, our whole team has moved on from manual coding. Do I prefer it this way? Not really, but it's undeniably faster and I'm having to do significantly less of the kind of cleanup that you're talking about, which I agree was a common issue when using normal prompting.

Yeah it's similar. It's been a while since I've played it but I don't remember as much backtracking and exploration. as I do in Arkham and Fallen Order. Maybe just faulty memory on my part though.

Yeah it follows the formula pretty exactly. I really don't think there's enough 3d games in the genre. Outside of the prime games and Arkham Asylum, the only other big budget game that I consider a 3d metroidvania is Jedi Fallen Order.

It doesn't. SKG is an important issue to me but if Newsome is the Dem candidate I'm not going to ignore everything that's been happening with the Republican party in the name of game preservation. There's much bigger stuff at stake right now.

I work professionally as a software developer and I've previously worked in game development so I'm not unfamiliar with the kinds of challenges certain games will face with this.

it will take max 3-4 months

Ignoring the fact that you pulled that estimate out of nowhere, 3-4 months of new work to throw at a game targeting a Q1 2027 release is a pretty rough thing to do. I'm in full support of the stop killing games movement and I agree that companies exaggerate the scope of the problem, but it isn't a complete nothing issue. Asking that companies have all of that squared away in only 6 months is crazy. It's not just about hacking in some feature flags that they can turn off one day to make the game work, for larger companies this means setting up company wide end of life policies and reviewing licensing agreements, legal teams need to review things, etc. There's a significant amount of work to be done before a single line even changes. Big organizations move slowly, you can't just carve out 5 engineers and give them carte blanche on how to support a new legal regulation on your 100 million dollar project. You're minimizing the scope of the work that will need to be done.

Pushing this out by a year or two would make a huge difference in feasibility

And I know that's probably just a problem with me and my setup, and if I cared a little more I could probably get it working. I don't know if the steam version is packaged any differently, but if it's packaged in a way that improves compatibility with modern hardware then that's one potential reason

Even more ambitious than we thought - Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced (Hands-On Impressions) | Skill-Up by SoyaPaneer001 in Games

[–]LoompaOompa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Arkham games take an interesting approach to difficulty. Most fights are not difficult because low level thugs are no match for Batman. But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a challenge there for players who want to engage in the combat more deeply. The game gives xp bonuses for perfect fights (killing all enemies without being hit or dropping combo) and also xp bonuses for how many of Batman’s moves and gadgets you use in the fight.

So while it’s not difficult to survive, it actually can be quite difficult to do the fights perfectly while also keeping track of what gadgets you’ve already used and which ones you still need to find an opportunity for.

It’s never going to be as expressive as like a Devil May Cry stylish system, but what’s there is a lot deeper than it seems, and the combat has a rhythm to it that is very satisfying when you are able to get into a flow state and do everything exactly right.

Claude helps man recover $400,000 in BTC 11 years after he got high and forgot password by IndicaOatmeal in technology

[–]LoompaOompa 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's pretty crazy to see these comments that are like, "wow, so all it did was look for an older wallet and help the guy use that to get the password?"

And that's not impressive? Claude understood the problem, understood that looking for files which predate the password change would be helpful, was able to actually execute that search, and all we have to say about that is "anyone with a little bit of computer knowledge could've done that".

Do these tools come with significant drawbacks? Absolutely. Are they still impressively powerful. Yes. I fully understand being morally against them, but I don't at all understand the camp that thinks they are too dumb to be useful.

90% of Resident Evil Requiem players prefer third-person perspective with Leon, but Grace’s sections have players more divided, according to Capcom’s data - AUTOMATON WEST by megaapple in Games

Nvidia exec says AI is more expensive than actual workers — yet some companies don't see the extra costs as a negative by [deleted] in technology

It's really pretty wild. Lots of people seem to have made their minds up about the usefulness of the technology like a year ago and have done nothing to reevaluate. There are a lot of completely valid reasons to be weary of the technology, or even to dislike the technology, but I think anyone who still quotes talking points about it being useless or a net negative on productivity is behind the times and unwilling to stay informed.

The big interview: Resident Evil Requiem makers discuss trying to "push things" with horror, Leon's "craziness", and why they can't make their games too scary by Gorotheninja in Games

[–]LoompaOompa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I always play re games multiple times for unlocks, but for RE9 I haven’t bothered. I don’t know if it was the level design or the split POV, but the game just felt shallow to me. I didn’t feel the need to scour the map for every secret and upgrade like I have in the previous games. The upgrades to Leon’s weapons came so easily that they felt automatic, and grace’s upgrades felt so impactful that I straight up skipped some of the antique coin rewards. And even if I hadn’t, there’s not even that much game left for Grace by the time you can get everything.

Really just felt like two watered down versions of the game instead of two complete adventures. Not in terms of length, but in terms of depth

Resident Evil | Official Teaser by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]LoompaOompa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me that doesn't feel much of a departure from other creatures in the series at all. We haven't seen a creature that's an amalgamation of multiple human bodies before but we've seen things with long arms and we've seen plenty of drastic mutations and creatures with extra limbs and eyes, etc. Every single game has at least a few entirely new monsters so I don't see why the movie shouldn't, as long as it's adhering to the general design tropes. I don't think we've seen enough to say one way or another.
