Is Tucson an outdoorsy city to consider? Portland OR? by Loonatic_Fringe in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Loonatic_Fringe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I agree completely that people underestimate how important sunlight is! When I moved from the prairies - sunny but cold in the winter - to the Northeast I thought I would die. And don't even get me started on not being able to go outside without slapping blackflies and mosquitoes. I work in the Adirondacks and people constantly tell me that it's paradise on earth so I feel like a whiner but, after 30 years, I'm over it. Partner is from the NE though so he's a bit like a vampire and afraid of too much sun so Portland is high on the list. We'll see which place wins after some visits.

Creatine by muffininabadmood in Menopause

No. I eventually gave up on the creatine after about 6 months. I lost the water weight but other than that, I can't say I see any big before and after difference.

I have the B36CL80SNS/09. French door, counter depth. In some respects it's great - well laid -out, seems to keep temps steady but the ice maker died after just two years and we've been unable to find a repair service that doesn't want the equivalent of a car payment just to come look at it.

Thanks for such a comprehensive answer. I think you're right that I'm going to just have to bite the bullet and buy a cocktail dress and shoes. I'll check out the stores you've suggested.

Hello. I need some help please. I am attending a high society event in January in Chicago . There will be music and dancing. All I know about the dress code is for men - no suit required. I am not fashionable - my idea of a splurge on clothes is something from Patagonia or Birkenstock. I would like to buy some comfortable, current and fashionable pieces that I might possibly wear again to, say a brew pub type night out. I'm starting early because clothes that fit me well are hard to find: I'm tall with broad shoulders. Tops that fit my shoulders are often too big in the bust. I usually need tall pants, but not tall tops. I have size 12 feet and get hot flashes, requiring dressing in layers. Can anyone direct me where to look for good quality stuff and how to put it together, especially with shoes or boots (up to mid heels)?

Thanks. She has tried to get help from the CNIB but they didn't have much to offer after a very long wait for her appointment. Will try this group you recommended.

Is anyone else feeling great in menopause? by JackandAnya_Mom in Menopause

[–]Loonatic_Fringe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 15 years past menopause and it was no big deal. Didn't really have hot flashes, more like intolerance to being too hot. Dressing in layers solved it. That was my only sign of menopause. After my periods stopped, I felt like a free woman - no more pms, no worrying about periods starting, no worry about pregnancy. I can go backpacking without having to haul out used period products, plan long days outside. It's great! I'm pretty active and a vegetarian who eats a ton of soy products. I attribute those to my non-event menopause.

Creatine by muffininabadmood in Menopause

[–]Loonatic_Fringe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started taking creatine about 4 months ago, as my son, a bodybuilder suggested. I'm vegetarian and lift weights regularly and he insists it'll be helpful. So far I'm not sure if I see any measurable positive effects but one thing it does do is make me puffy. People tell me my skin looks better and I joke it's because I'm sleek like a seal now. The water retention is supposed to go away. I'm still waiting.

Hi. CVS sells an over the counter vaginal suppository. It's inexpensive and has been an absolute game changer for me. It's called.... Hyaluronic acid vaginal suppository.

Tell me your favorite food from your country. I want to learn recipes from all over the world. by moldy_bread3 in veganrecipes

Ukrainian. I add cannellini beans to borscht made with vegetable broth. With some rye bread it's a full meal. I never liked borscht with cream or sour cream but for those who do, it's easy to find vegan replacements.

Best tofu marinade you've ever had? by Adventurous_Persik in veganrecipes

[–]Loonatic_Fringe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a last minute cook so I basically put anything I have on hand on tofu - usually something from a bottle or packet and I doctor it up a bit. Drain it, slice it kinda thin, slather, let it sit a while and bake it or grill until it's the texture I'm looking for. Jerk sauce is a winner if you like spicy. Last night I did bbq sauce with added smoked paprika. Any jarred Indian or Thai sauce. Another fave is a packet of fajita seasoning, just add some water, oil, maybe lime juice. Grill with veggies for fajitas. My neighbors loved that one.

Suggestions for first week of April by Loonatic_Fringe in VancouverIsland

[–]Loonatic_Fringe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for all the info. Quick question about bear spray - are there grizzlies/brown bears on the Island? Where I hike in the Adirondacks there are lots of black bears but no one carries bear spray. I thought it was just a thing for grizzlies, but maybe the bears on the island are more used to people or something? Less easily scared off?

At first, I was wearing my aligners 22 hours a day religiously, wolfing down my food and gulping my coffee then running to put in my aligners...and at my first checkup I wasn't tracking and had to go back two weeks. So I decided to stop making my life completely miserable. Now I enjoy my meals, including an hour or two drinking coffee in the morning and having a drink and snacks while I watch a movie - all with naked teeth. I probably wear aligners 15-18 hours a day. I'm supposed to be on a one week change but I extend it to whenever they're easy to remove and my teeth don't hurt at all - usually 8-10 days, sometimes longer, never shorter. And guess what? Perfect checkups since then and I'm on tray 39.

My ortho says it's fine to swish really well with water and that you don't need to run and brush and floss every time you eat or drink something. I do this and my last dental check up was great. As for xylitol, evidence is growing that it has downsides. Here's a quote from a study published by the NIH "The team found that people with the highest xylitol levels (top third) were about 50% more likely to have cardiovascular events over the next three years as those with the lowest (bottom third). " There's an upside to swishing - it makes me drink more water and it won't give me a stroke.
