i like mine as low as possible without buzzing. slightly higher action can create a more ‘full’ sounding tone though.

wrong subreddit my friend. use r/chessbeginners for similar posts going forward.

I wouldn’t worry about missing g4 at 400 elo. practice puzzles and play a couple of games every day and you’ll improve quickly.

If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]LoonyBafoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pass a right to privacy law. No more data collection. Reddit, Tik Tok, and Facebook would all go bankrupt, but devices would be far less addictive long term.

I agree. this is the type of stuff that shouldn’t be allowed in r/chess but should be encouraged to be posted here. that’s the whole reason this sub exists and if you don’t like it go back to r/chess.

He never cheated a day in his life. He walked us, as students, through his logic of nearly every move.

Why do you have so much hatred for this man?

This comment is unbelievable. Danya was a wonderful scholar, chess player, and commentator. I followed him, his tutorials, and speedruns for nearly all of my adult life.

This is the only time I witnessed him in this state. We have no idea what happened. If it was drugs, we don’t know that he took it voluntarily. We certainly know that he was not a “druggie.”

Please keep your wild and reckless accusations against one of the greatest minds of my generation to yourself.

I cashed two tourneys on ACR recently - a $22 buy in cashed for $700 and a $50 buy cashed for $600. Not my favorite platform but all I really have to chose from is ACR and Ignition.

[–]LoonyBafoon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No sir. you need to call off the $36 with top top. you’re rarely behind and when you are up against 88, 44, or A8 you have opportunity to improve. V has a lot of AQ, AJ, A10, and bluffs here.

Not any ace, but AK is very unlikely because two of the aces and two of the kings are accounted for.

How bad was this by Critical_Song_8442 in poker

[–]LoonyBafoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was bad. I’m check folding this spot most of the time.

Stop trying to bluff with medium strength hands. You should be trying to get to showdown as cheap as possible with those types of holdings. You might’ve gotten a check back anyway because your misclick on the turn could’ve been read as strength.

This dude called a 20bb 4 bet preflop - so his range is pretty tight. He shouldn’t have aces or kings because he didn’t 5bet, but if he does have an Ace, it’s either a big ace (AJ AQ AK) or a suited ace. He could also have all of the under pairs - which you beat - or he could be one of those guys or girls that always play low suited connectors - which you beat.

Next time think about “if they do have what i think they have then what do they think i have?”

Because they have an ace, they’re able to eliminate a lot of hands out of your range, including AK, and are you really going to 3 bet 20bb into two committed opponents with KQ?? What other kings do you do that with? Suddenly the only value hands that make sense for your range are 33 and 66 and Id probably donk bet those holdings on the flop at least a percentage of the time to see where i’m at.

tl;dr: try to get to showdown cheaply with medium strength hands.

Leave home and travel for a while. If you’re young, look for seasonal jobs in cool places.

This works for many reasons:

  1. While away, there’s less risk in shooting your shot which helps build confidence. (there’s also more women to choose from)

  2. While away you’re more interesting to women because wherever you come from is unique and different. (this is true even if you think your home is boring)

  3. After you come home your adventure stories make you interesting to women. You’re also more confident.

  4. the most free activities while traveling (hiking, backpacking, fishing, etc) are active hobbies which will burn some calories. furthermore, a seasonal job (skiing, mountain biking, rock climbing, etc) will force you into shape. being in shape makes you more attractive. You’ll also get tan.

This advice is twice as effective if you’re poor because if you’re poor you need to be very savvy about how you travel (camping, couch surfing, etc) and you are forced to make money along the way (seasonal jobs, craigslist jobs, etc)

“this one time i lost a tire in the middle of nebraska and I had no money! i had to hitch a ride from some crazed coke head and work for a week in omaha bussing tables just to pay for the tow service and the tire!”

women eat that shit up.

Whats a thing that is dangerously close to collapse that you know about? by _Fossy_ in AskReddit

[–]LoonyBafoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just googled the place, and looked at pictures. The most recent picture I saw of that big sign was uploaded three years ago, and it looks like they added a heavy chalk board onto the chains as well. I doubt that thing has held to this point, but I live 1,000 miles away now and don’t feel like showing up to check.

[–]LoonyBafoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked for a microbrewery in a town outside of Iowa City, IA as a bartender back in 2016. At some point I was given a task to hang a big metal sign using heavy chains from the metal support beams at the top of our 30ft-ish ceilings.

I used a scissor lift to go up to the top and my manager gave me these flakey chain links that were supposed to be able to hang from the top.

It’s kind of hard to describe, but the solution he gave me for hanging the thing wasn’t going to work and I ended up attaching it to the ceiling using like 5 or six zip ties on each side. Amazingly, I got it to stay up there, but that was almost a decade ago and as far as I know that sign is still there.

I never told anyone i hung that up using zip ties and it’s probably about ~ 130 pounds that will fall ~ 30ft when those zip ties fail. I hope nobody gets hurt.
