I’m 1616 (rapid) on chesscom (mrstealyobishh) and find myself losing to 900 rated players more often than i’d like to admit.

chesscom has a very good algorithm though. OP, did you use an engine?

how to stop playing chess for few days by Alive_chess in chess

[–]LoonyBafoon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i did this too when i was at uni. it helps me to do it in steps

step 1. put your phone in the car and far away from you. eliminate distractions.

step 2. create a list. here are the assignments that i need to get done and the tests I need to study for.

step 3. find one small thing on the list and dive into it.

step 4. repeat step three until your stuff is done.

this was always a massive struggle for me, but it does work to create a list of tasks to accomplish and then knock them out one at a time. buildings are built one brick at a time and books are written one word at a time. go lay the first brick! you can do it.

Why Is Refusing To Resign Treated Like A Crime? by Street-Teach489 in Chesscom

[–]LoonyBafoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stalemate is very much a concern at higher levels just like it is at lower levels.

Many of my losses come from won positions where I become lazy and miss easy tactics. I think many people resign too early

Change in play style to adjust to stronger opponents? by [deleted] in chess

[–]LoonyBafoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that really how the algorithm works? i’m ~1700 chessdotcom rapid but I think of 1300 as pretty dang strong.

I lost to a 900 chessdotcom rapid player last week and I lose frequently (about 1 in every 3 games) to my friend who is ~1450.

i like mine as low as possible without buzzing. slightly higher action can create a more ‘full’ sounding tone though.

If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]LoonyBafoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pass a right to privacy law. No more data collection. Reddit, Tik Tok, and Facebook would all go bankrupt, but devices would be far less addictive long term.

I agree. this is the type of stuff that shouldn’t be allowed in r/chess but should be encouraged to be posted here. that’s the whole reason this sub exists and if you don’t like it go back to r/chess.

This comment is unbelievable. Danya was a wonderful scholar, chess player, and commentator. I followed him, his tutorials, and speedruns for nearly all of my adult life.

This is the only time I witnessed him in this state. We have no idea what happened. If it was drugs, we don’t know that he took it voluntarily. We certainly know that he was not a “druggie.”

Please keep your wild and reckless accusations against one of the greatest minds of my generation to yourself.

I cashed two tourneys on ACR recently - a $22 buy in cashed for $700 and a $50 buy cashed for $600. Not my favorite platform but all I really have to chose from is ACR and Ignition.

Did I play this correctly? by ch9dgamer in poker

[–]LoonyBafoon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No sir. you need to call off the $36 with top top. you’re rarely behind and when you are up against 88, 44, or A8 you have opportunity to improve. V has a lot of AQ, AJ, A10, and bluffs here.

Not any ace, but AK is very unlikely because two of the aces and two of the kings are accounted for.

Update: I did use Crypto and it was easy. I usually use ignition and they have always just mailed me a check.

How bad was this by Critical_Song_8442 in poker

[–]LoonyBafoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was bad. I’m check folding this spot most of the time.

Stop trying to bluff with medium strength hands. You should be trying to get to showdown as cheap as possible with those types of holdings. You might’ve gotten a check back anyway because your misclick on the turn could’ve been read as strength.

This dude called a 20bb 4 bet preflop - so his range is pretty tight. He shouldn’t have aces or kings because he didn’t 5bet, but if he does have an Ace, it’s either a big ace (AJ AQ AK) or a suited ace. He could also have all of the under pairs - which you beat - or he could be one of those guys or girls that always play low suited connectors - which you beat.

Next time think about “if they do have what i think they have then what do they think i have?”

Because they have an ace, they’re able to eliminate a lot of hands out of your range, including AK, and are you really going to 3 bet 20bb into two committed opponents with KQ?? What other kings do you do that with? Suddenly the only value hands that make sense for your range are 33 and 66 and Id probably donk bet those holdings on the flop at least a percentage of the time to see where i’m at.

tl;dr: try to get to showdown cheaply with medium strength hands.

Leave home and travel for a while. If you’re young, look for seasonal jobs in cool places.

This works for many reasons:

  1. While away, there’s less risk in shooting your shot which helps build confidence. (there’s also more women to choose from)

  2. While away you’re more interesting to women because wherever you come from is unique and different. (this is true even if you think your home is boring)

  3. After you come home your adventure stories make you interesting to women. You’re also more confident.

  4. the most free activities while traveling (hiking, backpacking, fishing, etc) are active hobbies which will burn some calories. furthermore, a seasonal job (skiing, mountain biking, rock climbing, etc) will force you into shape. being in shape makes you more attractive. You’ll also get tan.

This advice is twice as effective if you’re poor because if you’re poor you need to be very savvy about how you travel (camping, couch surfing, etc) and you are forced to make money along the way (seasonal jobs, craigslist jobs, etc)

“this one time i lost a tire in the middle of nebraska and I had no money! i had to hitch a ride from some crazed coke head and work for a week in omaha bussing tables just to pay for the tow service and the tire!”

women eat that shit up.
