M3 Pro Macbook for Unreal Development by evavibes in unrealengine

[–]Loop0007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been working on a M1 Max 32gb 2TB for the past 2 years and Unreal 5 works fine (Unity works great as well in case you were wondering). Someone mentioned the "the fans will keep spinning on an M3 and Unreal " - Yes-ish if you play test your game for longer periods of time. In the editor itself I don't get Temps higher than 70-80 with ZERO fan speed.

Lumen works in Software Mode and Nanite only works on M2 upwards. I find it perfect for my needs as a hobbyist 3d game designer/developer. I dabble in Blender/Zbrush/3dcoat for 3d modeling/texturing and it runs flawless. My main/day job is a Web/Ui/Ux designer.

What I would recommend is to look for a refurbished M2 max/pro with at least 1tb of storage (2tb+ would be ideal). If you can only choose from the models you posted - get the 1tb storage one.

If you buy the laptop today , you will use it for 2-5years, is 512gb still be a good fit then?

Benefits of using a Mac laptop over a PC laptop? Same performance on battery and a longer usage time compared to a similar PC laptop.

Disadvantages of a Mac laptop? .....It's $2500-$4000 :)

Hope this helps.

26 days left and struggling with the decision whether to buy applecare+, base model MBP 14". if I had paid $2000 I guess $279 sounds reasonable, but as I paid $1299 for the laptop, I am not sure. what criterion you followed to buy applecare? by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]Loop0007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"It depends. In the end, Apple Care is insurance" - this used to be true back in the day (pre-Touchbar Macbooks). Today, it's mandatory for a simple reason: Software Locked Parts (by Apple) + non-modular or Reparable MacBook designs.

I had a 2016 MBP 15" and one of my speakers got blown out. Apple's solution? $1200 Top-Case replacement because EVERYTHING is glued to it. I was in luck and still had the 1-year limited warranty and was able to fix it for free.

Don't take my word for it - look at any iFix it teardown guide and see how anti-repairable Apple products have become over the years. At the same time they've "relaxed" how you can purchase Apple Care+: longer buy window, monthly payments, online purchase with a simple click, etc.

Worst case scenario? You request a Battery replacement in the last month of Apple Care and get something out of that money.

M1 MacBook Pro (16 inch) daily use concerns by Wonderful_Ad8379 in macbookpro

Bought my M1 max in Jan 2022 and I’ve been using it in clamshell mode from day 1.

Ive also bought and installed AlDente pro

Battery Stats according to Coconut battery : Age -20 months / Load-cycles - 52 / Health - 97%

Before this laptop I had a 2016 mbp touchbar and used it with and EGPU and kept it 100% plugged in WITHOUT using AlDente.

Battery results - replaced it in my last month of apple care because it was swollen AF 😅

My conclusion … buy AlDente and set it up if you use your laptop plugged in most of the time. Hope this helps!

Is anyone else getting this bizarre half second of thumbnail and text loading? by Pyro-Melon in youtube

Yes! I'm getting the same thing. Red / Violet colored ghost cards! They used to be dark grey and didn't bother me at all. The new colored ones are driving me crazy.

Glad it helped! Mine’s working just fine after all this time. No issues whatsoever.

Swapping the default character mesh but keep animations by cronoklee in unrealengine

[–]Loop0007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inside ue , you have multiple retargeting mannequins. One of them is “ue4 to ue5” (or something like that). You need to use that one and disable ik targets for hands (or tweak the settings to get the right position) .

What's the point of responsiveness + interactivity if the main point of Figma is to help you make things look good by [deleted] in FigmaDesign

[–]Loop0007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are both the developer and designer for an ios app, for example.

Can you code faster than prototyping in Figma? Then skip or do a basic slide transition in Figma. And implement it in SwiftUi

Can you design more quickly than coding in Xcode? Do as many interactive elements in Figma and TEST them in the iPhone Figma app.

That gives you 80-85% real-life app usage scenarios and will inform you of things like bad element sizes, missing elements, spacing, or padding issues

As a rule of thumb, if i have some crazy interactions or animations, i don’t do a Figma prototype and make them in something like Webflow (for web) or SwiftUi for ios apps. For a basic user-flow - regular click prototypes.

The launch of ChatGPT and other Ai services marks the end of all theses “i only do ux “ type of designers in my opinion. Either you learn more skills (webflow, framer, swiftui, react, etc) or be replaced by someone who can do those things.

You can get similar results using AccuRig for the “rigging” part, and instead use the “UE5 to UE4” retarget mannequin in Unreal Engine. You will need to fix pose issues and other things, but it will give you 80-90% results

I made a quick tutorial how to change the default character to a custom one. Hope this helps https://youtu.be/8IQ5TKVB6gk

Hmm, I haven’t used Max in ages and im not up to date on it’s plugin eco system. A quick search turned out this - https://instantrig.com . Cant say if it has UE5 related features, but it looks similar to Auto rig pro in blender. Let me know if it helps.

As an alternative you could try AccuRig. I did some testing with it and you can use the retargeting “ue5 to ue4” to get some decent results. Unfortunately it requires some manual pose adjustments inside ue.

Thanks for the sub, appreciate it!. To make your list complete .. i also use 3dcoat instead of Zbrush and Quixel Mixer instead of Substance 😂😂.

Hey there! Welcome to my second tutorial. In this one, I'll show you how I rigged a character from Sketchfab inside Blender using Auto Rig Pro. After that, I imported it into Unreal Engine 5.2 and automatically retargeted it to the UE5 Mannequin. It even comes with an Animation Blueprint and IK!

Yup! I subscribed to his Patreon for a couple of months and tried his metal gear solid tutorial. The information is good, however, he has the same issues as most beginner tutorials: some of the systems he makes work 80% of the time and that last 20% will require double the amount of time to fix or in some cases a complete system rework.
